My first is a plaything;
My second few play with;
My whole plays with nobody.
it's a charade-riddle from here : praytellme.blogspot.fr/2013/09/charade-no-33.html
Any idea on this one ?
And also can I make a post about it if I mention the source and say that I'm not the original creator ?

3:42 PM
Seems like it could be a few things, but maybe a rattlesnake?

@Lordofdark: Sure, nothing wrong with posting it as long as you give credit.
@BusinessCat: I think you're correct! A rattle is a kids' toy, there are some people who play with snakes (snake charmers, herpetologists), and a rattlesnake isn't very playful at all.

@BusinessCat what's the difference between rattlesnake and normal snake ?

You
Hello

They are venomous, so they can defend themselves.

You
Rattlesnake vs normal snake:

Rattlesnake starts with rattle, normal snake starts with normal . :)

3:45 PM
@Lordofdark A rattlesnake is a specific type of snake. It's venomous and gets its name from the threatening shaking of their tails, which sound like rattles.

ok ! That's probably the right answer
But I don't really like it because rattlesnake is also a snake so the second and third line don't work perfectly

I think they work, but they're just kinda boring. Ideally, a riddle like that should have all of its parts entirely separate.

It's funny how these riddles are obvious in my native language but so hard in another language, even english

like "jigs + awed → jigsawed" or "feat + hers → feathers"
@Lordofdark oh really? just curious, what is your native language?

French
But I think my phrase is ambigous : they are hard in english for me because I am not fluent enough

Hey @WesleySitu, it looks like the OP has confirmed (in comments) that you're very close on puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/29888/…

omg that was so long ago haha

I know. It's one of the higher-rated remaining unsolved Qs on my Favorites list, which is why I still glance at it occasionally.
Maybe... Is this rebus a hardcore question?

Or maybe just hard?

well, OP must be super nitpicky if it'd need to have 'question' as part of the answer

@WesleySitu Yeah, just wondering how your last attempt could be "slightly wrong" as he said.

5:09 PM
ok i'll update it again and we'll see :)

@WesleySitu Looks like it worked!

yep

Cross that one off my list.

With the end of elections coming up, someone ought to post a farewell puzzle for Doorknob.

6:43 PM
I turn, but always stay in place.
I help remove obstacles, thought I cannot lift a thing.
Though I am lifeless, I'll still shake your hand.
But forget my match, and I may leave you out in the cold.

@Deusovi Is there a way to solve your maze without making a lot of random trials ?
