Q: Our puzzling friend 2: Electric Puzzaloo

Gordon AllocmanThank you guys for helping us figure out what activity my friend wanted to do over here! Unfortunately the puzzles didn't stop there. When we asked him to give us the location of where he wanted to go, he gave us this instead: Lorem ipsum vestibulum elementum sapien quis pulvinar Quisque...

Enjoy :)

@GordonAllocman would the language tag be appropriate - I ask as it's the current "fortnightly challenge"...

Q: Fortnightly Topic Challenge #9: Language

Khale_KithaLink to other Fortnightly Topics. This is the ninth installment of the Fortnightly Topic Challenge described here, with topics suggested and voted for here. This fortnight's topic is language (suggested by question_asker, and will span from May 13 – May 26. During this period, we will compile ...

I think for now enigmatic is fine, everything you need to solve the puzzle is in the puzzle
other tags may mislead

fair enough
definately looks like Latin to me :)
...although fairly gibberish Latin

In publishing and graphic design, lorem ipsum (derived from Latin dolorem ipsum, translated as "pain itself") is a filler text commonly used to demonstrate the graphic elements of a document or visual presentation. Replacing meaningful content with placeholder text allows viewers to focus on graphic aspects such as font, typography, and page layout without being distracted by the content. It also reduces the need for the designer to come up with meaningful text, as they can instead use quickly-generated lorem ipsum. The lorem ipsum text is typically a scrambled section of De finibus bonorum et...

@f'' yeah I know, my father had, until he retired just a month ago, a graphic design business :)
Is that the only "fake" Latin there though?
have not studied Latin since I was 11 (25 years ago!)
Oh wait is it all the Lorem ipsum?
...no
(whew)
guess it could just be a Lorem ipsum though.. hmm

Given the nature of this off topic post I thought I'd share that the new site design is disgusting! D: Feelings? D.w. all comments will soon disappear into the void they call "Too Broad". — Daedric 6 hours ago
This guy is just incapable of saying anything useful, isn't he?
(I say this due to the number of his comments getting deleted due to being "rude or offensive")

dude is mad unpleasant
just totally insulting to everyone

3:03 AM
Well that is one off-topic question, but what was the point in trashing the awesome looking site design there?

I... don't have high hopes for this one, but it's intriguing puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/32585/…
(I say intriguing because of the calculator thing and the fact that it doesn't look like there's anything to calculate)
I do genuinely like this one though: puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/32582/…

Q: Name the sword aloud to save the castle from the monster

Gordon K One morning the castle awoke to a shout: "A monster's attacking, come quick!" "Call for the wizard", said somebody else, "He'll save us - his favourite trick". They called him 'Ard Merlin for that was his name, Because he was tough as old nails. Life had been hard since old Ar...

I was learning c language on my own. Does any of you know why do we use \n at so many places?
mostly inside the printf command.
afk now.

\n is a newline, which printf does not print on its own

ahh...
same thing which puts command does.

I think this question on meta needs an update. It was last updated 1.5 years ago.

3:48 PM
puts is intended for single-line display, while printf, and its derivatives, are intended for formatting text. Both provide different return values, as well.
Additionally, \n, in-and-of-itself is a line ending, only in Windows, iirc.

by formatting text you mean bold and italics?

No, formatting as in placing variable values in-line with other text, and supporting multiple datatypes when doing so.

@Khale_Kitha We can't put variables by using puts command?

fprintf, for example, can be used for easily making CSV files, or other fixed-length file setups, and printf can be used for similar, on the screen.
Yes, you can put variables with puts, but you would use printf for putting multiple together. Such as:
printf("%s(%d): - %s", userName, reputation, message);
Which would display: Manshu(1234): Message

ohhh, that's how this thing work.
thanks.

I have just begun.

This is a c++ reference, but it should help with that part
yw
I honestly never learned C - I went from BASIC, to Pascal, to C++. So a few things that were before C++, I'm not as familiar with - but have run into from time to time.

whoa...I don't know what you would have done if you had really learned it. :D

Someone's going to need to make a language puzzle, soon, or this requested fortnight is going to be a dramatic failure.

:(

I know where to find some good ones, but I'm not sure if they would allow reposting them
(if anyone is interested, they're here)

Q: Guard gets fired after saving CEO's life

DecypherA classic: A CEO of a multi-million dollar business has to go on a business trip to Belgium (from somewhere in America). Before going to the airport in the morning with his limousine, he's going to the office first to get some files that he forgot the previous night. When arriving at the offic...

I don't think it's off topic.
It is too-broad though.

not off topic, just too broad
yeah

It needs to be re-opened so that we can close it properly. :p

that's the off-topic/speculative reason

Q: Why are questions off-topic if they invite answers which are not demonstrably correct, or are otherwise speculative?

EmrakulMy question was closed with the reason: This question may invite speculative answers, as the question is not fully defined. The validity of some answers may be based upon opinion. Good questions for this site have a limited number of objectively correct answers. The reasoning provided was ...

not entirely clear on the difference between that and too broad

is this person just trying to bump their question?

@f'' Not intentionally, but I'll update it less from now on.

@Yllrauei alright, adding a tag and then removing it is unusual, but the rest of the edits seem valid
