1:00 PM
@Unionhawk That's what I said
It's still a terrible idea
The choice shouldn't be between pausing the game during battle and running around with no weapon

@BlueBarren it seems to only show that if your profile is linked to nintendo account... I wonder if it tracks it retroactively or only from the moment it got linked

@Unionhawk foxit
foxout
gt foxout

@Chippies no clue, first thing I did with my Switch was connect everything

mine says "70 hours or more", but I played it for a while before linking so idk

it also doesn't start tracking until after 10 hours or something

1:03 PM
@DanmakuGrazer it only takes 2 seconds at most to switch a weapon with the quick select

I forget the actual number
but at first a game will appear as "first played x days ago"

@BlueBarren makes sense considering it says "70 hours or more"

until you meet some criteria and it starts tracking

it only tracks in like 10 hour increments, I guess

no it tracks in hour increments

1:04 PM
@Chippies That sounds terrible

I have 170something

@DanmakuGrazer have you actually played the game or are you just saying it's terrible without actually having experienced it?

I said "sounds"
I have no interest in playing it

yeah, well, it's not as terrible as it sounds
and honestly, I can't imagine a better alternative with how limited controllers are

How about weapons that don't break...?

1:06 PM
on a PC you could have dedicated keys for switching weapons on the fly, but a console doesn't have 100+ buttons
@DanmakuGrazer so, your whole argument about switching weapons being shit is because the weapons break..?
I thought you actually had an issue with the weapon switching system

I never said that
I said one of the reasons why breakable weapons are bad is the pause they bring to battles
FFS I can't type

even if you don't pause the game to switch weapons (which I agree is jarring mid combat) you'd be running like a chicken with your head cut off until someone drops a weapon

considering how open the game is, unbreakable weapons would make the game extremely easy once you know what you're doing
and even if you don't, it's extremely easy to get very strong weapons in early game by accident

but it's not like breakable weapons make the game hard

I don't think breakable weapons is an excuse for poor balance

1:09 PM
it just makes it annoying or tedious
I don't want to go through 5 weapons while fighting a lynel I just want to fight a lynel
two n's or one?
lynel or lynnel?

My internship company's HR department assigned me an email address using my surname and the first word of my given name

Did it come out as something inappropriate?

"first word of your given name"?

No, but it's hilarious. And annoying.

what does that mean?
my given name is just one "word"

1:12 PM
I'm Chinese, so my surname is one word, but I prefer my given name to be spelt as two words, since it has two characters

oooooooooooooo
that makes sense

It's also spelt with surname first

most people from China I know end up picking an "english" name

Reddit is instagram now

(I know 4 people in this kind of situation)

1:13 PM
Unfortunately most computer systems assume Western ordering and take the first word to be the given name and the second word to be the middle name
So they spell my name with the first and last word
This case is even more unique

actually one of those people I know has the same word twice as their given name
so I wonder if they'd care
although they use their english name so idk if it's relevant for them

Even though we use western forms I do get added as Arda, Ozkal at times which is wrong

@BlueBarren Well, it has the same English spelling, but probably has different tones in Chinese

it's annoying

@Avery what's it supposed to be?

1:15 PM
@Avery that doesn't even make sense lol

@PrivatePansy fair point, she hasn't mentioned anything of the sort to us though and she says she's fine with w/e so I guess more of a "as long as I know you're talking to me" sort of thing

Damnit I now want to make this: youtube.com/watch?v=ubjuWqUE9wQ

@BlueBarren legal systems are surname, name

CC @Avery, you'd find this interesting as well I think =p

@Avery ah okay so for a legal system it should be the other way around, right? Ozkal, Arda?

1:18 PM
Yes

At work we go surname, given name
I don't pay enough attention to legal documents but I'll assume it's the same

but half the time it's in reverse order and issues arise

Sounds like a typical organization
of any kind

like not matching my name on ID on hospitals and not being able to get meds or needing to dig into random stuff on MERNIS
^mernis is turkish citizenship db
@KevinvanderVelden ooh, added to watch later

is their a risk that there will be someone with your name but in the opposite order?
because that'll cause issues

1:21 PM
In the end if it didn't cause issues I wouldn't mind as Arda is deadname and Ozkal is the name of a misogynistic bloodline

"deadname"?

@KevinvanderVelden WHat is "this"? You linked a defcon talk.

The thing the talk is about, basically raspi thing that listens to open wifi noise and gathers data
I don't know why I want to make it just that it's an interesting challenge

AH, that part.

@BlueBarren i don't use that name out of legal and educational contexts

1:26 PM
ah okay, wasn't familiar with the term

It's specific lingo. I use it rather often.
basically that I want that name out of my life, I prefer my female name

And that's Avery?

Yes.
Or aliaga if you want to go full dnd-ey and refer me to a name no one can pronounce properly.
@KevinvanderVelden hmm, that sounds totally of a doctorow book, heh

@Avery is it pronounced "al-ee-ga"?

(Also tfw you realize walkaway was released and you still didn't read it)
@BlueBarren nope.

1:35 PM
@Avery crap
"al-ee-ja"?

i read it as a-lie-ja

oh so like Elijah

not the exact same but similiar

Yup

1:40 PM
@Avery I would pronounce that al-lee-ah-gah. Just saying.

@MBraedley that "ah" is throwing me off

@MBraedley that's how half of people in bridge d&d pronounces it as

then again I can't read

@Avery It's not our fault you never pronounce it.

@Ronan true, I like listening to how people read it as. I prefer your pronounciation however tbh.

1:44 PM
Which one? I also pronounce it a-lie-ga.

@GnomeSlice Hue

@Ronan that

Noted.

@Avery That site has some of the worst CSS I've seen in recent times

@Nzall You mean best

@PrivatePansy I'm talking about the Independent

@PrivatePansy Abandon the fortress to ruin

2:23 PM
@Avery the scroll sound

@Nzall Ah. Yes. That I agree.

@KevinvanderVelden yes

I mean, they're literally making 1/3 of their page useless for those that just want to read the article

@Nzall I didn't even notice there was an article

^ good css

2:25 PM
Right, it's 10.30pm. I have an exam tomorrow at 9am. Time to cram the four hours of lectures I missed.

Sounds like a typical college night. Enjoy!

Thankfully the video player has a 1.5x speedup button
Did I mention that our project for this module was one of the top three, and we won a kilogram of chocolate

how long before the chocolate melted away in typical Singaporean weather

It's currently sitting in the fridge

@Dragonrage So on the thread for MSI Round 2, the top comment for the TSM v. Gigabyte Marines match-up:
> Vietnam War Pt. 2

2:31 PM
@PrivatePansy oooh

Red tortoise cake (Chinese: 紅龜粿; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Âng-ku-kóe) is a small round or oval shaped Chinese pastry with soft sticky glutinous rice flour skin wrapped around a sweet filling in the centre. It is molded to resemble a tortoise shell and is presented resting on a square piece of banana leaf. As suggested by its name, red tortoise cakes are traditionally red in color and has a sticky chewy texture when eaten. Red tortoise cakes are shaped like tortoise shells because the Chinese traditionally believed that eating tortoises would bring longevity to those who are eating it and bring about good fortune...

This tortoise has a lot of bites
> “No wonder! It tasted amazing! Very interesting recipe you got there.”

I'm particularly fond of the one titled Ernest Teh Reads Mind-Blowing Facts About the Principle of Sufficient Reason and the Cosmological Argument

> When a puppy has reached the ripe age for harvesting, I will deal a traumatizing blow to the puppy’s head to kill it.
Holy fuck, that's dark
And I thought drowning kittens in water that's vibrant with Justin Bieber music to get a new theoretical particle to appear is dark

@Nzall it is
@Nzall but this also is

2:42 PM
Also, I apologize in advance if I turn any of you into a vegan

Holy fuck, I'm continuing to read
it gets even darker

@Nzall Literally

@PrivatePansy I assume you did background-color: magic?

@Avery Of course.

I'm feeling a bit woozy, and I just felt for my own throat...
I think your only saving grace, @PrivatePansy, is that you didn't come up with the points in the story yourself
because otherwise you are one sick person

2:47 PM
can you merge SE accounts?

@Nzall No, there's five of us. I wrote the code, the rest wrote the story.

@BlueBarren yeah, you can

@Nzall oh huh

I'm not crying

is there a page with more info on it?

2:47 PM
You're crying @PrivatePansy

And thanks, if the story provoked an emotional reaction, then it did it's job.

put "main account" and "alt account" in the right bios for each account, then message the mods

@BlueBarren use /contact

But really, there are very strong logic backing the argument

Q: How can one link/merge/combine/associate two accounts/users? (Anonymous/unregistered/cookie or OpenID/registered)

pauldunlopI accidentally posted a question without being logged in with OpenID. Is there a way to associate that question with my account? Return to FAQ Index For more information, visit "I accidentally created two accounts; how do I merge them?" in the Help Center. a.k.a. How can you link an Open...

2:48 PM
It is based on this fairly famous paper - spot.colorado.edu/~heathwoo/readings/norcross.pdf

> I accidentally created two accounts; how do I merge them?

Which is also why we got a kilogram of chocolate

hmm yes, by accident

@BlueBarren If you do have two accounts, they must never interact
Otherwise they will collapse into one, like quantum particles

well see the thing is this account isn't question banned on SO anymore

2:49 PM
aka ban

but I asked 3 questions that were actually well received on the other account...
of course

@Avery Not necessarily, just forcibly merged, and all interactions that involve reputation change will be nullified

maybe

@BlueBarren if you got another account to avoid a ban, that's usually grounds for a new ban

if there are voting irregularities etc it might be a problem (esp. if excessive) or not

2:51 PM
You should read the paper, by the way.

@Nzall wouldn't be surprised

If you're at all intrigued by our project.
The paper is if nothing even more persuasive

When discussing the basic idea behind the project I did mention that Norcross's argument has all the elements of a horror movie
So I think I may have to share some of the blame here

@PrivatePansy There is one major issue to that paper IMHO: the poor life conditions of meat producing animals has very limited positive effect on the quality of the meat. The only reason animals are grown in such conditions is because it makes them more productive
As in, you have a lot more control over what each animal eats and what you give to it, meaning it can produce a lot more meat

2:56 PM
@Nzall Right, but that is addressed in the paper - the byproduct argument
That the suffering is not intended is not an especially persuasive counterargument. Fred could make the same claim.

@Avery I need some time to rethink my lfie

@Nzall ANd a significantly longer one at that.

I don't know why I said quantum particles earlier - I meant matter and anti-matter
Quantum collapse doesn't really work as far as the analogy goes
