cpu in Diablo makes a huge difference though, my laptop has a mobile i7, wife has a desktop i5 and our gpu's perform fairly similarly

but her game never dips below 60 fps

mine goes as low as 30 or less in big fights

Diablo 3 uses memory stupidly, though.

There are still memory issues (although I think they may have solved those with the new file system they're using).

They never pre-loaded assets.

So when you first launched the game it would be slow and you'd drop tons of frames when you first enter combat, but then you'd be fine for the rest of the session.
