@Wipqozn If you like political intrigue, I'd recommend the Daughter of the Empire trilogy by Raymond Feist and Janny Wurst. It's technically part of the entire Riftwar Saga, but it can be read standalone. I've never read any of the rest of the Riftwar stuff but I can say this trilogy is really good.

@AshleyNunn I missed a connection flight on the way to see Jochem way back (was so angry, was the airline's fault, but I digress) and they gave me a hotel room and I had the first book with me. I just read the book all night as distraction from being upset and I couldn't put it down, just went through the entire thing.

I really love reading political intrigue stuff in fiction even though I hate that shit in real life, haha.

We have two living rooms, but there's close to each other, and sound travels between the two really well. It's the worst.

@agent86 Toilet had a bad smell coming from it every time we flushed it. Father-in-law thought the wax ring wasn't sealed. They took the toilet off, and the whole floor is rotten from water damage.

So now we have to replace the floor in the bathroom.

the parts internal to the toilets need replacement on a regular basis as well. chances are if the wax rings are in bad shape, so are the internal bits.

There are so many things I have to do.

The air conditioning doesn't work that great (one room is like a refrigerator and the rest of the house is kind of warm).

Even closing the vent in the cold room doesn't help since the air forces its way through that room and trickles into the others.

@StrixVaria locks are pretty easy, esp. if it's the same brand as the old ones and the parts just fit. there's usually just two screws that hold it through the door, and two screws that hold it into the side of the door.

but you could always hire a locksmith and watch them do one, and then you'd go "oh, that looks easy"

I just get nervous because these are the "important" ones.

@StrixVaria yeah, it's pretty much the same on the exterior. the only complications are if the old locks are weird and use non-standard holes or something, or if the outline of the old lock is still visible after you put the new one in... but that's really just cosmetic.

you could always try to install the new one, and if it doesn't work, put the old one back.

when I talk to people about home improvement, I tend to ask them "how much would you be able/willing to pay to have a second saturday this week"

like if I had a "saturday machine" that could magically insert an extra weekend day, how much would you be willing/able to pay me to turn it on for you

if the cost of hiring someone is less than that amount, and you don't want to do the task and are pretty sure it would take all day, then you're better off hiring someone.

it's sort of an abstract way of thinking about how much your time is worth to you
