Most programs have gotten with the program and don't ask for UAC elevation unless they have to.

If UAC didn't trigger when using actual windows settings directly I might consider actually using it. As such I just immediately turn it off first thing because otherwise configuring the PC is a hellish tedium

@BenBrocka The standard level doesn't do that, and the euristics used at the standard level to not trigger the prompts are not perfect and, at any rate, I don't trust them.

At the maxium level, everything needs to be elevated manually.

Why is this acceptable on OS X and Linux but somehow Windows can't have it?

Hell, Windows doesn't even ask you your password unless you really crank up UAC to 11.

(That would be by creating an administrator account, giving it a password and then using it to downgrade the one you actually use to unprivileged userhood.)

(Then the UAC prompt will ask you for the admin account password)

(I ran with this setup for a couple years, then settled for the relatively more lax single-account approach.)

and it's nice to have Share for video in case I wasn't planning on recording. My capture setup isn't quite unobtrusive enough to run constantly

Q: What do I do with soulboud karma items?
