Huh Mighty No 9 is using Unreal engine, just like Guilty Gear Xrd. Surprised to see so many JP devs using it

@BenBrocka I guess it's aimed for kids that don't have a credit card linked to their account... or something similar.

@Unionhawk d'awwww

@MichaelDunfield Ever since I subscribed to /r/aww, my Reddit experience has been at least 50% more positive. Now I just need to bring myself to unsubscribe from /r/AskReddit.....

FAE
@Unionhawk I get lost in AskReddit way too much. :|

@MichaelDunfield Ah, yes, forgot about that one

@MichaelDunfield Jesus, that's freaking cute

> What's tha....AHHHH!

ALL RIGHT ASKREDDIT, BEGONE

I love the way the one on the far left bounces up to its feet

Q: Fastest way to farm plat in Rift

JulianWhat are some of the fastest ways to farm platinum in Rift? I'm currently a level 53 cleric with 810p and need to get to about 1200p in order to purchase my first rex from other players and unlock the auction house in game. Aside from getting lucky with having deeps lock boxes dropping, what cou...

I still think this should have been the Call design

I'm very meh about that one.

@BenBrocka That looks good
But I can see why it wasn't taken

@BenBrocka Is that Roll?

Looks to much like Zero

2:10 PM
That's not a bad thing
And I'd really prefer her to be more clearly combat focused than this "support" crap

It's not, but I guess they don't want that.

The more I read it the more I like E over F but eh.

Yeah I wish I voted for E

I let the stewardess outfit talk me out of it though

2:12 PM
D is a total joke

I like the outfit but I believe I said I'm a sucker for hats.

Several of them look like jokes to me
Maid, weirdeyes McHugeeyes, rockethair
Cutman with creepy eyes

Rocket hair kinda actually makes some measure of sense since she's intended to be more robot.

Yeah but it looks dorky

These are all horrible
I like the way G has multiple arms, but that's all I like about it.

2:15 PM
@GraceNote G doesn't have anything I'd call a hat

It does. Of note, the one with rocket hair as a whole has a bit of a dorky feel but in that sort of endearing dorky way.

E's single pigtail is awesome

@BenBrocka G isn't what I considered (though she does have a headdress, per typica)

Oh man - C will get a crapton of votes because of the unicorn.

@GraceNote I don't want her to look endearingly dorky though, that just means there's even more likelihood of her being Roll McUseless Character

2:16 PM
C is cool, but looks to much like the cliche playboy bunny character with the scissor thing on her head

@BenBrocka Which is why you didn't vote for it.

Is that even necessary
what does she do with that
trim her hedges

@wipqozn I canceled my EO preorder because it wouldn't be here until Thursday. Now I need to drive somewhere instead and its all your fault.

I like E and F I guess
@Sterno What's wrong with waiting until Thursday?

@Sterno This is what you get for making me buy the game in the first place.

2:18 PM
@MichaelDunfield TOO SLOW

Today is the last day my debit card will work. If I don't have my new card in the mail today, I am going to be very grumpy.

@OrigamiRobot Prepare to grump.

I'll only vote for C if she has a ridiculous mexican accent and shouts "HEY BECK LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE A LITTLE LOW ON AIR"

It's already their fault I didn't get it the first time they sent it.

2:19 PM
I'm still not sure if I want to get the EO remake.

@BenBrocka cutman?

@MichaelDunfield I like to buy and not play games as early as possible.

@Sterno ??

@MichaelDunfield I can't see her hair and not think Cutman

@BenBrocka That's hair?

2:20 PM
@MichaelDunfield If he doesn't pre-order he can get it earlier and start not-playing it much earlier than if he had to wait until Thursday.
@MichaelDunfield I assumed it was a traditional rabbit-type ribbon.

How do you make a ribbon stay up like that?

@GraceNote You should title the statement, "So I heard you like Fun"

Thank you reverse image search for providing context without me even having to ask. Holy crap.

@MichaelDunfield Thursday is two days further away than Tuesday. This is simple math!

@MichaelDunfield I could give "logical" reasons pertaining to real ribbons but then I can just point out this is a robot so we don't have to listen to gravity properly to begin with.

2:22 PM
@GraceNote So it's a ribbon made out of metal?

Made out of xels!

@GraceNote Robots still listen to gravity.

@GraceNote Though E and F seem to have real hair

@GraceNote What's holding you back?

@BenBrocka Real in so far as they want it to be.

2:22 PM
And I appears to have giant mint candies for hair

@Wipqozn That I already wrote the legend and so really it's just an excuse to be like the old grump who sees it in the newspaper and goes all "I was there, and it wa'n't like that! I even have a crown to prove it!"
@Arperum Properly, keyword being.

@GraceNote That's more of a game thing than a robot thing though.

@Arperum Only because we choose to.

@Arperum It's because of how these robots are made.
It's a robot thing within the setting, essentially.

(to be honest, I didn't see the picture we are talking about)

2:26 PM
Had an alert on my phone this AM. Said "my ponies miss me". Thought it was @YoungHorses Just my daughter's My Little Pony game. #disappoint

@BenBrocka hahahaha

For real ribbons, if you don't actually have some sort of stiffening piece inside the fabric (like those little things you probably all have in the collars of your collared shirts), then usually it's some fold magic that lets you have ribbons stand upright like that (though they're usually fatter than the one depicted in question).

I don't get why they are letting the community pick the design anyway, isn't that pretty much always a Bad Idea?

@fredley your burn things up tool is really usefull. No more cats moving though my screen distracting me from my semi-sleep-work state.

@GraceNote And thanks for the explanation. =]
@Arperum oops

2:28 PM

@MichaelDunfield Presumably they're okay with any of the designs being picked. It's not like the community is submitting the design

@MichaelDunfield No problem, I just burn them, and it's solved.

@BenBrocka That would be horrible.

@Arperum My burning tool makes for a much more peaceful Bridge

Hahahaha, this caption:

2:29 PM
People who hate cats can burn cats, people who hate ponies can burn ponies

> WHY AREN'T YOU HELPING!?

@fredley It's a win-win

@fredley Yup, the burning button itself is set ablaze too(at least in firefox), doesn't look all too perfect.

@Arperum eh. I'm not bothered enough to fix it

@fredley Nor am I.

2:31 PM
@fredley It works, so why bother with aesthetics?

@Arperum A burning button that is on fire seems entirely perfect.

@5pike because if we didn't bother with aesthetics we'd just have a button that makes it invisible, rather than causing a fire effect.

@GraceNote In that case: the flag and star button aren't burned.

Q: Origin of the WASD key scheme

That Brazilian GuyMy gaming memories goes way back to the Atari 2600 with its single-button gamepad, and with computer gaming I started with the PC XT . Back in the day, the movement would be controlled by the arrows, and action by the spacebar (and secondaty action by ctrl, alt, shift, etc. That was the standard...

@Arperum They are styled in a different way, with a background image rather than an <img>

2:33 PM
...

@fredley I expected something like that. You probably burn all image tags inside a certain container?

Hey guys I found a good metaphor for The Bridge.

@Arperum Should be just .user-image

@Lazers Off-topic. Sorry @ThatBrazilianGuy

@fredley Didn't look at the code, blind guesswork was involved.

2:36 PM
@OrigamiRobot Isn't it about game mechanics? Not for a particular game, sure, but still it is about game mechanics. And game-specific hardware (gaming with keyboards)

> Questions that ask which games or other products meet specific criteria are off topic. We primarily deal with questions about playing games, not about which games to play or historical trivia. We make an exception for identifying games based on an audiovisual artifact from the game in question.

@fredley Do you mind being annoyed by brick breaker and undefined stuff? If you are: I'll shut up about it, otherwise I'll periodically poke you about it.

@Arperum It's not game-breaking, and it's annoying to debug, so it's low-prio

@fredley It just makes the game easier, because you don't have to keep a certain part safe.

@Arperum Hmm
@Arperum Oh I think I know what causes it
Hum hum hum
Maybe I'll fix

2:38 PM
@Lazers I could tell you why it's popular and primarily used, but not entirely what event started it.

@fredley If the lazy doesn't win?

Busy today though

@ThatBrazilianGuy I'd put it in the same bucket as this one, knowing full well that saying this is really just grounds to get that closed.

If it helps you in making certain of your bug: the ball disappears right before it hits the undefined paddle, then the undefined pops up and then the ball pops back into existence going back up as if there was a paddle.

@GraceNote I assume it's because it's because it's the leftmost group with roughly the same shape as the arrow keys.

2:42 PM
I wonder if there's been any cases on Arqade of the "But this other one like it is open!" ever winning the argument, instead of getting the other one close votes too

@OrigamiRobot Here's the answer I started writing.
WASD established itself as a common control scheme for two particular kinds of gameplay choices.

1. In games that use both keyboard and mouse, if you use the mouse with your right hand, your left hand usually rests more comfortably on the left side of the keyboard than by the arrow keys.
2. In games which only use the keyboard, WASD allows one to perform directional input with the left hand instead of the right hand, which some may be more comfortable doing (especially those who are most familiar with console controllers and gamepads with left-hand directional pads). Settling for WASD is a

Is this edit too trivial?
I asked a little while ago but nobody responded.

@Sterno It's hard to think of an incident anywhere on the entire network that hasn't resulted in a double closure.

@MichaelDunfield Meh.

@MichaelDunfield You've got enough rep that you're not wasting anyone's time making them review it, so whatevs.

2:44 PM
@GraceNote Eh, I don't think they are the same and I will subvert anyone's quantification request by screaming "I HAVE WORK TO DO"

I want a new Meta to read when I get back from lunch. Someone get on that.

Q: As Rome, can I prevent civil war?

XenoxPlaying as Rome a civil war seems to trigger sooner or later in the campaign. Is there anyway to avoid civil war completely during the campaign, or at least until a victory condition is met? Or will civil war happen at some point no matter what?

@OrigamiRobot There are certainly differences, I don't deny that.

@GraceNote I HAVE WORK TO DO

2:45 PM
I actually prefer ESDF to WASD. Easier to find "blind", since the "F" has (usually) a physical "bump" to mark it, more space for special actions to the left of it, and the modifier keys are as easy to reach without taking your fingertips from E, S and F with my finger length.

@GraceNote I'm not going to name it (to avoid it getting more close votes), but the last one I remember resulted in a double closure and then the older question being reopened by a mod.

@JasonBerkan If you mean a recent Meta incident I'm also reopening the newer post too, once my copy gets approved.
@MartinSojka I'm not entirely sure why WASD picked up over ESDF since ESDF is more straight on your typical touch-typing position. I assume it's because it's even more leftmost than it.

@GraceNote No, not the fun stuff. They were questions on the main site.

Wait, damnit, I said I'd go a week. It's only been 3 days.

@Sterno Lies

2:47 PM
Personally I stick to WASD because I used WASD before I knew WASD was a thing (because of gamepad D-pad preference and playing a platformer), which in turn WASD led to me learning my own off-shoot of touch-typing.

From 1985, used A and D for turning. mobygames.com/images/shots/l/…

(Which I never realized was different until I was explaining touch typing to someone and realized that my hands rested on L-Shirt/A/W/D and J/I/L/; respectively instead of ASDF and JKL;)

I remember playing FPS before using a mouse for them was cool. Control to shoot, baby!

I realize now that I got caught up on the word "origin" as meaning "first game" and that doesn't have to be the case. I'm not taking back my close vote because I just don't like trivia questions, but I've stopped caring about the whole situation.

It's got to be awkward always trying to keep your left hand on a size L shirt while typing.

2:48 PM
Also, I HAVE WORK TO DO
Maybe if I keep saying it, I'll actually do it

@OrigamiRobot Usually doesn't work that way, I find. Maybe that's just me

@OrigamiRobot and maybe pigs start flying...

@GraceNote My home keys are basically zdfv and njkl

Okay it made more sense with njk. over njkl.

2:54 PM
@Sterno Didn't that kind of misconception result in a whole lot of weird disappointment about horse_ebooks?

@GraceNote It changed when I brought my thumbs to the space bar

@GraceNote Sure, but I'm never wrong about anything, ever.

Not that I type consistently anyway

@Sterno confirmed

Dun matter in the long run as long as you type as you type, wot.

2:55 PM
I typically type with whichever finger is closest to the key I am going for

Now I'm hungry. Time to go CHOW EVERYTHING OUT.

@OrigamiRobot Isn't that... entirely the premise of how the whole of touch typing systems are born on?

@Sterno I'm angry, time to ROW EVERYTHING OUT.

@GraceNote I don't bring my fingers back to the home keys until I am done typing
It's hard to explain how I type

@OrigamiRobot Isn't that... entirely the premise of how the whole of touch typing systems are born on?

3:00 PM
I'm saying I don't always use the same finger for the same key
It depends on the word I am typing

The full version of QbQbQb has been published on GameJolt: gamejolt.com/games/arcade/qbqbqb/17989
Cool stuff

And the more I think about it, the less I know what I'm talking about

@OrigamiRobot Ins't taht... etinlery the pserime of how the wolhe of tcuoh tpynig ssymtes are bron on?

@GraceNote I think you made a typo.

@GraceNote Not the way I was "taught"

3:03 PM
If y'stuck t' what y'were taught then y'wouldn't be lower on the home keys t'begin with.

'u' is always supposed to be your right index finger
or sommat
Sometimes I use my index, sometimes I use my middle

It's all about relative movement and fluidity. The purpose of touch typing is to really heart into the keyboard. You move not in accordance to where you are from home, but where you are from where you are. Home is just where you start to hone your spatial relativity from.

> The human organism responds to musical vibrations. This fact is universally recognized. What instincts then are aroused by jazz? Certainly not deeds of valor or martial courage, for all marches and patriotic hymns are of regular rhythm and simple harmony; decidedly not contentment or serenity, for the songs of home and the love of native land are all of the simplest melody and harmony with noticeably regular rhythm.
> Jazz disorganizes all regular laws and order; it stimulates to extreme deeds, to a breaking away from all rules and conventions; it is harmful and dangerous, and its influence is wholly bad.

@GraceNote Not the way I was "taught"

-- Ladies Home Journal, 1921

3:05 PM
@OrigamiRobot Don't listen to the man.

I didn't, that's why I type weird
I also look at the keyboard even though I don't have to

I don't think that's weird.

It's simply personal adaptation into how you personally approach it.

@OrigamiRobot If I don't look I type slower, I know where all the keys are though.

3:07 PM
The confusing part is that a robot would use a keyboard at all. A more direct interface would seem most appropriate.

@Arperum Right

I never actually pay attention to when I do or do not look at the keyboard.

Arrgh, I have been battling the dreaded rattus faber for days!
I have beaten them back time and again, but now they scheme for control of my pantry!

I can type by not looking like I am right now, but I have more errors and am more self concious

Also I actually have two sets of home keys since sometimes my left rests on AWEF instead of L-ShiftAWD.

3:08 PM
I'm typing while eating a bagel and feeding a baby, rules be damned!

@Sterno I only just now, after making the typo again, caught what you meant by this.

@PrivatePansy @AshleyNunn: Never get a rattus faber infestation, it's rather bothersome.

@TimStone so, one hand typing, the other holding the bagel and alternating between taking a bite and giving a bite of bagel to the baby?

Like I kept hitting 'i' instead of 'u' because I use the same finger for both when I type 'but' vs 'bit'

I don't think bagels are valid as baby food

3:09 PM
@TimStone Gross

@OrigamiRobot that's what firewalls were invented for little robot

@KevinvanderVelden One hand on bottle, the other on the keyboard, and the bagel in my mouth. Although I'm cheating a bit now and have propped the bottle up with a blanket so I can type with both hands.

Hahahahaha, Mighty No 9 included this in their latest update:
> “I really have no idea who this guy is (or) what his stupid game looks like.”
Michael Pachter
Games Analyst, Wedbush Securities
(Pachter's a famed dumbass)

@TimStone that makes more sense, but I prefer my idea

I don't, that would mean less bagel for me.

3:11 PM
I wonder what it would look like if I tpyed with my eyes closed

Enlightenment.

Aww, I mixed up the p and the y

You otherwise got it pretty clean.

See, I refuse to believe I can do that

We should actually all try that. Somehow I don't think the conversation in here will be any weirder if we all keep our eyes closed.

3:12 PM
@OrigamiRobot I have tried this, it makes no difference for me. Its great fun to talk with someone and look at them while continuing to type at the same speed.

Not looking at the keyboard means I'm probably going to make a bit more errors but at the same time, I'll be looking at whereever I'm typing so I will catch those errors traditionally, mini-giant laundry aside.

The main reason I have to look at the keyboard is so I don't get distracted by other things
I can't read one thing and type another

For curiosity's sake let's see what happens when I do a full sentence in my typical style with my eyes closed.

@fredley speed warp needs a speed typing game

The wuick brown fod umpsed over the laxy lseeping fog
I got 'The' right.

3:14 PM
@Sterno I would play this so much :)

@Sterno Maybe for speed-warp 2

@OrigamiRobot Funny, this is what led me to develop my touch typing style in the first place. I absolutely refused to do the exercises in schoole correctly.

If you are a touch typist, typing with your eyes closed or open should make little difference - other than immediately seeing your errors.

And 'brown'

@GraceNote I can't even read something and type that thing at the same time. I always do so poorly on those typing speed tests

3:15 PM
@GraceNote I never finished the exercises, the floppy disk got "accidentally" degaussed

@JasonBerkan I do make errors when touch typing, touch typing just gives me more speed while maintaining high accuracy. Hence eyes closed would result in me not autocorrecting, or worse, attempting to autocorrect and messing that up.

Yeah, trying to correct errors with your eyes closed would be a recipe for disaster. Or hilarity.

Not looking at the keyboard also gives me an overwhelming sense of "Oh god I hope I'm doing this right" which makes me be more diligent

My typing has been getting worse lately
My fingers are getting unresponsive.
I'm not quite sure what the problem is.

WHY ARE WE EVEN TALKING ABOUT THIS I TOLD YOU I HAVE WORK TO DO

3:22 PM
Because I'm hoping you've got AutoCAD work and I'm gearing you up to get that capslock on.

@GraceNote I DO ACTUALLY
I NEED TO FINISH THIS DRAWING TODAY
I WAS HOPING TO HAVE IT DONE BEFORE LUNCH
THAT'S NOT HAPPENING

It's 9 am somewhere.
HURRY, BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

I've found AutoCAD a lot more fun to stomach if I just call them "DWGs" where DWG is pronounced like if you pronounced Doug as Doog instead of Doug.

I PREFER CALLING THEM "DWIGS"

But Doug is Funny.
(Also Dwig is RegDwight)

3:33 PM
So historical trivia questions are a no-go, right?

@GraceNote RedDwight is the owl, right?
@Fluttershy Your face is a no-go. Oh buuuurrrrnnnn.

@Wipqozn Yes.
@Fluttershy If you're asking about the WASD question, I'm pretty sure we can twist it (with relative ease, considering it's 95% already there) to not be about "the first game evar" and more just about how the control scheme came into being.

Isn't that still historical trivia?
Not that I'm actually against historical trivia.

It's "historical trivia" in name that yes, it's a trivia question about history, but it's not what that rule was designed to target.

@GraceNote Then we should change the rule just to be jerks.

3:36 PM
@GraceNote "What was the first game that had a red pixel in the upper left corner?"

We had the rule instated because had a number of "What was the very first game to include 3D" and similar at our early years. Not to handle questions that happen to be about the history of games, to which we have a number of more acceptable questions in that line.

Bonus points to both Vlambeer and InExile for that.

@OrigamiRobot Sorry. I haven't found this text. It is not present on gaming.stackexchange.com/help/on-topic can you please tell me where I can find this more extended version? Thanks.

@MichaelDunfield bleh trademark crap. At least it sounds like it was a peaceful discussion

3:38 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy It's in one of our close reasons, let me draw it up, but it's the close reason which ties to the catalogs item in that bullet list.

also, @Sterno, you could just buy the EOU on the eShop.
No need to put on pants and leave the house!

@Wipqozn Hrm.
How much storage does a 3DS have?

@BenBrocka Did you hear about them getting Ridiculous Fishing ripped off before it even came out? polygon.com/features/2013/4/24/4257958/…

I have to go to work tomorrow anyway, so there's at least a 20% probability I'll be wearing pants.

I'm guessing they weren't excited to have another argument like that again.

@Sterno USes an SD card

@Wipqozn Yes, new policies.

@Sterno It comes with 2GB SD Card I believe.

@GraceNote See, I'm glad I don't care enough to ever bother closing these, because I would not have understood that. Stupid words, meaning different things to different people!

3:41 PM
@Wipqozn I don't think I have an SD card. So I'd have to go get that. If my pants are already on, I may as well get the game

@GraceNote Oh my, fancy. Did I miss a discussion, or is it just something you and the mods have been working on since the Pony-Magic thing?

I'd've given a link to a live question but the first I found was deleted and I figured an image was faster to convey its veracity than to dig up an undeleted example.

@GraceNote Thanks.

@ThatBrazilianGuy What @GraceNote said.
50% DONE BACK TO WORK

The description of basically reads as "Don't be dicks."

@Sterno We wanted to just post a big link to @agent86's "BE NICE" post but I'm also the kind of person who writes a lot.

Zeus damn it, @GraceNote beat me!
Iwas just about to ask for fun to be edited into that pony post.
but you already did.

Now we just need "So I heard you like Kevin Sorbo..."
Maybe on SciFi.SE instead

This post was originally closed by moderators after complaints about its intent, the nature of its material, and rowdy activity that occurred in the comments. The moderators have met and agreed to reopen it, as well as the MtG thread, under some ground rules that are explained in the fun tag wiki and also in the thread itself. Which mostly summarizes to, to quote agent86, "Be nice", but please do read them. — Grace Note 8 mins ago

Q: So I heard you like Ponies

fredleyAfter the people over at Hasbro made a My Little Pony animated series, I thought it would be fun to pon-ify some of the people here. They were apparently very popular (mostly) and people were asking for more. So here are some of the ponies I made. If you want to make your own, just use Pony Crea...

Kevin Sorbo is Hercules.

Yup, called it.
> A student in Nigeria is claiming he can prove gay marriage is wrong through science - and his scientific "breakthrough" is backed by his university.

@MichaelDunfield Is it bad that I'm more infuriated by the fact someone wrote "damming" in the article?

At least now I know I don't need to take anything a Nigerian university says seriously.

3:53 PM
@GraceNote That annoyed me too.

@MichaelDunfield Without pressing the link i can determan that it must be correct, fucking magnets

An absent hero.
