@Dragonrage Okay Germany is better than I realized
I took an actual look at their abilities and damn
I just saw the military slot thing before and was like "okay army civ" and stoppedl ooking, but their UI and and Ability is great/.

@Wipqozn I probably am not utilizing Germany properly because I don't really have any idea what I am doing. But it seems to be working.
If I don't know what I am doing, then my enemies won't either.

Q: How do i make redstone activate when in a bed?

PlayerOK, So, I'm building a map but i need to know the simple command on how to make redstone activate after you wake up after sleeping in a bed/when you sleep in a bed.

user15026
@Frank Black Jade by Kylie Chan is out. Gonna pick it up to finish the story, but the last one was rather weird.

8:26 PM
@Ash :(

@Ash That's a much safer plan!
I wonder what I should get for dinner

user15026
@badp At least things are decently quiet now.

user15026
And there will be endless shrimp in a bit.

Looking at VR more the selections don't seem great
Unless there are Lifechanging Experiences (TM) I think I'll hold off

user15026
8:45 PM
I've not tried VR stuff, pretty worried it will just make me feel sick

It's pretty cool, definitely not for anyone but enthusiasts yet

Q: What are the AI and player modifiers for each difficulty level?

WipqoznThe major difference between each of the difficulty levels are the bonuses applied to the player and AI. These were well known in Civ V, but unsurprisingly it doesn't look like there's any hard data on Civ VI yet. I've tried looking through the various foldiers and files in \Base\Assets but haven...

user15026
@KevinvanderVelden I like the idea of it, for sure, but the high price point plus being scared of turning into a vomit machine makes me leery

Yes, I would suggest waiting at least one generation of the tech

Yeah

8:55 PM
@Ash it really depends on the game and how capable your machine is
the only VR experience that works well is games that have you seated, afaik

Vive works really well standing

and any changes in fps are very bad
@KevinvanderVelden yeah, but I mean, there are no full big games that allow you to walk around a lot
what I meant is that sitting works well because you're sitting both in-game and irl
whereas standing, well, you have to be standing irl as well and that means you also have to walk yourself

Fantastic contraptions, surgeon simulator vr, tilt brush, trials on tattooine

and unelss you have a unidirectional treadmill, you can't walk very far :P

That's just a quick list of what I have tried =p

8:58 PM
@KevinvanderVelden as far as I can tell, the full list isn't a whole lot bigger :P

yes, there's like, tech demo type games, but they're nothing worth buying a VR headset for
imho
the only genres a VR headset is perfect for right now is racing games and space sims

Plus well, I read news about current vr technologies causing more motion sickness on women

for anything else it's better to just wait and see what the tech comes up with

random article that mentions that: inverse.com/article/…

9:00 PM
I'd love to have the Vive, but that's like, almost a month salary for me
hopefully they start mass producing them and dropping the price a lot
plus, from what I've read and heard it seems that the Sony PSVR is actually the most comfortable headset right now and has solved a few issues both Oculus and Vive have

oh man I just realized that I went to istanbul and didn't even visit VR first lab

so hopefully Vive and Oculus release a new version of their headsets that address all the problems

@Chippies Yeah unless something like the Daydream turns out to be pretty cheap I'm still waiting it out for wave 2 of VR.

@RedRiderX isn't Daydream the google VR? I doubt that's going to be for PC's
I have a google cardboard, I used it maybe twice

@Chippies Yes, and I know I won't be able to play the same kind of games.

9:04 PM
phone VR doesn't really interest me

@KevinvanderVelden Okay, thanks. I'll hold off for now

@Chippies that's the benefit of being generation 1.5

Though other than power (obviously) there doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference between daydream and the current oculus.
The head tracking of course is unknown

PSVR sounds vaguely interesting but Sony has a terrible track record with peripherals and I'm not convinced it'll have any staying power

And I don't think the daydream will have wands, but the oculus doesn't have them right now either.

9:07 PM
They're doing some touring VR kiosks which are coming by soon, I'll check one of those out

@twobugs a work colleague bought one, he loves it, but he's already kinda bored of it, because there's nothing to play

I thought it wasn't out yet?
Hm

@twobugs Aside from the amount of peripherals a big issue is you can't turn around in PSVR.

it's been out for a couple weeks now, I think

The camera just won't see you anymore.

9:07 PM
the device itself seems to be quite solid according to reviews

I thought it needed the PS4 Pro, which isn't out until november or something?
Am I just really out of the loop?

@twobugs Nope

@twobugs nope
@twobugs yep

@twobugs yep

:|

9:08 PM
PSVR has its own break out box, which helps with the 360ing hardware-wise

Well that's a little better
I'm vaguely interested in the PS4 Pro but meh

next gen PC VR should be miles ahead of the PSVR, imho

well Res is out for it
Rez?
yeah, Rez

Current gen pc vr is miles ahead of PSVR graphics wise

remake.

9:10 PM
Maybe, maybe not. VR has been a really slow technology to mature

And even input wise the vive is better from what I've read

@Chippies I feel like it is now, only because of the almost insurmountable limitations of the Move hardware.

Canadians tell "America" it's always been great. THEY ARE PROBABLY COMPLIMENTING THEMSELVES

@twobugs PC VR is already better at most things than PS VR, what PS VR has over PC VR is the fact that it's more comfortable and has better optics

9:10 PM
The only thing PSVR has going for it is reliabillity (no messing around with hardware configurations) and bit more comfort

@Chippies I think it might also have the edge in games tbh

none of which would require major changes in the PC VR headsets
@badp how so?

most PC VR things are indie stuff right?

Quite a lot of it is

I dunno I don't have VR

9:11 PM
@badp VR-exclusive? probably

I was under the impression that Sony is managing to get more VR buy in from the big players

there's quite a few VR supported games though

Indies "pivot" faster

@badp They certainly seem to be

tho, yknow, how long will that last?

9:12 PM
racing games and space sims mostly

Anyway I'm going to try out the PSVR before I pass judgment

there's a handful of VR supported games on PS4 right now

@badp yeah (though probably most will be ported to PC)

@KevinvanderVelden how annoying is that tho? "PC" pretty much brought VR to the scene and it still needs to wait on fucking rushed shitty ports?

@badp Insomniac is putting out a handful of vr only games, but they are still very small scale.

9:13 PM
@badp life is like that =p

Everyone is still experimenting.

What I'm reading is basically Vive is the high end, PSVR is the far more accessible headset
We'll see how things play out I guess

PSVR is the console of VR headsets, which is fitting.

@twobugs Oculus' wand controls could bring a bit more parity, but I don't know when they'll be out.

@twobugs one major complaint my colleague has is that whenever something blocks the path between you and the PS Camera, the headset goes crazy and it's vomit-inducing
because PS VR only has one camera

9:18 PM
Not even fallback inertial tracking?

@Chippies Oh yeah that sounds horrible, but couldn't someone walk infront of the Vive lanterns?

@KevinvanderVelden well, it basically stops any movement on the screen
and as it unblocks it quickly moves you to where you should be
@RedRiderX yes, but there's two of them ,which makes it much harder to do
and they're supposed to be positioned on opposite sides
Vive can work with one of the cameras/lanterns/whatever-they-are blocked, but PS VR only has one

@RedRiderX with other people around then yes

(technically two, but both are inside the same small space)

But otherwise no because as @Chippies said, 2 lighthouses

9:21 PM
I'm not 100% sure, but I would also assume that if you turn away from the camera, you could easily block the controllers with your own body

Q: how do i change time/weather?

Q: New 3DS XL System Transfer

delet thisSo I bought a New 3DS XL to transfer from my breaking 2DS (as you can see here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYUA6OS/?tag=stackoverfl08-20 ). On the box it comes in, it says it has a copy of Super Mario World. If I do a system transfer which deletes the game, is there a way I can get it back?

Q: What are the tradeoffs for tall vs. wide empires in Civilization 6?

nhouser9Background For clarification, tall empires are ones with a few very large and productive cities. Wide empires are ones with many smaller cities. In Civilization 5, global happiness prevented you from creating too wide of an empire. In addition, science and culture costs increased for each new c...

Seems like waiting and observing is the best bet for the VR market right now
Appreciate the input, dudes

@twobugs unless you're really into racing games and space sims, that's what a lot of people are doing :)

I am but I'm not sure if the support is even really there for those genres
I mean I saw Project CARS supports it, which is cool

a lot of the big racing titles support it, afaik
Project CARS, Assetto Corsa, Dirt Rally, iRacing, Live for Speed are the top 5 big ones that support it

9:25 PM
Interesting

it's quite possible that the PS4 versions of those games will support PS VR as well

That's worth some more consideration on my part then, thanks
Meh I already own most of them on PC
I'm also curious about the PS4 Pro

but since you already have a good PC, it's probably better to consider the Vive or Oculus instead

Google assistant is neat

although I'd wait for next hardware revision of their headsets

9:27 PM
But it feels kind of weird to buy a console refresh unless it's going to be a significant improvement
@Chippies Yeah that's my plan right now
Looks like Oculus has a lot to do to get the momentum back

@twobugs well, it's going to have better hardware
how significant that's going to be, idk

Right but it's an open question how big of a difference that will make
Will games be like, 15fps unplayable on the regular? And 30fps on the pro?

but even the Xbox One S has a noticeable improvements in performance, and that's not even supposed to be a "different" console

Cynic in me realizes how absurd it is to buy a console hardware refresh so early in this cycle
Kind of defeats the point of a console, eh?

you do realize that consoles usually only last 4-5 years? :P
xbox360 and ps3 were an exception that messed up everything

9:29 PM
Tell that to the 360 and ps3

they held back the tech for everyone

That gen needed to die years before it did

(mainly PC gamers)

Games are still being made cross gen, which is bleh for everyone

and xbone and ps4 have been out for what, 4 years'ish now?

9:30 PM
@twobugs pff, the point of a console has long seens been lost

Oh my God

3 years, I guess

Is it bad that I can recognize a bootstrap template?

The point of a console was plug it in and play, but that is so not how they work anymore

Bootstraps bootstraps Ron Paul
@KevinvanderVelden Oh, is that so?
I was confused because I regularly do just that

9:31 PM
Really? And you didn't have to install it to your drive first, or install mandatory multi gigabyte patches?

@twobugs you don't have to update your console or your games? Or you enjoy bugs and glitches? :P
wait, what am I saying, you're @twobugs, of course you enjoy bugs

I mean, he already has @twobugs, what's a few more?

the more the merrier

See I'm confused because those are things I can do remotely that never impact my gameplay

@twobugs that's not what plug and play is though

9:32 PM
And would you prefer we go back to the days were bugs are just... never fixed?

@twobugs or games were actually tested before released

@Chippies Yes it is, you can configure almost all of that to happen automatically

because releasing a buggy game was a death sentence to the game

@Chippies Oh games aren't tested before release anymore? That's news to me

@Chippies that's not fair. Current games are waaaay more complex

9:33 PM
@Chippies Okay I have to wonder if you even played games years ago

0
Q: Are there checkpoints in Mushihimesama?

user598527Do I have to play through the entire game in one sitting? Mushihimesama

@KevinvanderVelden that doesn't excuse the fact how bad some of the games are these days on launch

Like what games?
I'm genuinely curious. I must be good at avoiding them.

a lot of the ubisoft games

See that isn't fair because those are just bad games

9:34 PM
literally any game that has gigabytes of day 0 patches

user15026
Okay there is a much longer wait for endless shrimp when you go when the rest of the world eats dinner

And? In Ye Olden Dayes those games would be delayed

@twobugs they're bad because they can just patch them later

By weeks

Guess what I'm seeing live tomorrow!

9:35 PM
@twobugs those games would have more sensible release dates

@Chippies No, they're bad because Ubisoft is trying to wring blood from a stone with yearly releases

these days devs get rushed by publishers

@Chippies That would have been pushed back even more because you always find bugs

because bugs and glitches on launch don't matter anymore

I'm at a brewery and someone asked for a bud light

9:36 PM
I'm not denying that publishers have a part to play that isn't good but this is ridiculous hyperbole

@twobugs there's minor bugs and then there's major game breaking glitches that are easily reproduced :P

The bartender kindly explained they serve only their own beer here, and this one is closest to that

Arkham Knight was so bad on launch, it had to be pulled from the stores
(PC version)

Yes, literally only the PC version
So this is an argument against consoles because...?

you can't tell me that was tested and no one knew how bad it was

9:37 PM
It was tested, that was an outsourced port
AKA something different entirely
Look it's fine if you dislike consoles but this is getting very silly

@Unionhawk and gave him 50/50 piss and water?

@KevinvanderVelden no, their lager

@twobugs I said consoles aren't plug and play like they were, because they're not. Then we started talking about games being bad at launch. I wasn't necessarily trying to connect those two
consoles are definitely a lot easier to use than PC's, there's no denying that

They are plug and play, and I still do that regularly
/shrug

you still need to install many of the games, you still need to update the console, you still need to update the games, you need to uninstall other games if your tiny hard drive doesn't have the space for your new game
I was told that Gears of War 4 is like, what, 140gb or something?

9:40 PM
I'm pretty sure that's not true
And all of this stuff can be done with little to no player/user input. I dunno how this is not plug and play when I can literally do that with most games

It's apparently the largest xbone game, but at only 70

@twobugs quick question: Can you buy a new game, put in the disc, and start playing?

Frequently? Yes, I've done exactly that
Not always. Typically games start by installing the beginning of the game so you can begin playing

Hmm... Do I go to another brewery in this district of the city, or do I save money and go home

So you have to wait for it to copy several gigs to the hard drive. Which is not plug and play

9:43 PM
@KevinvanderVelden Oh, I guess I was lying when I said I could plop in the game and play immediately
Guess I'm wrong

> start by installing the beginning of the game so you can begin playing
Now you're just contradicting yourself

No, you're just grasping for straws

Tldr Consoles are bad QED
- literally you guys 2016

What I said is not a contradiction

@twobugs ... no? This was my entire argument, you can't just plug in the cartridge/disc/whatever and start playing

9:44 PM
You don't like consoles. That's fine. Don't be r/pcmasterrace.
@KevinvanderVelden YOU LITERALLY CAN
I TOLD YOU THIS

SOMETIMES
THEN YOU SAID YOU CAN'T
WHY ARE WE SHOUTING?

I literally did not say you can't do that
You're being really hostile
I'm sorry for liking a different thing and I'm going to disengage.

Sometimes you can but sometimes you cannot

Consoles not being plug and play is the least of my issues with them :/

How hard is this

9:45 PM
Yes, I don't get what twobugs's problem is with this either

Goddammit

I actually love what MS is doing now with the games being cross platform

There's a website for you guys
It's r/pcmasterrace

I just don't like that we, PC gamers, need to deal with the console pricing, but I guess that's better than not having those games at all

You can't thus... you can't? That was my point, big games aren't plug and play any more and that was one of the biggest selling point of consoles

9:46 PM
I think he was saying that it installs the beginning of the game so you can play immediately unless you're trying to play the final cutscene first.

xD le pcmasterrace xD

@KevinvanderVelden imho the biggest selling point of consoles is that they're "very little to no fucking around involved"
they're practically plug and play for what it's worth in 2016

@Ronan you mean kind of like battle.net "playable/optimal"?

They're literally plug and play
In 2016
This is the most farcical moment I have experienced today

@Unionhawk I don't know what that means.

9:48 PM
@Unionhawk where playable is in some cases defined as "You can start the menu guys! Totally playable"

Let's all settle down and enjoy my quality tweets instead

@twobugs plug, enter login info, enter internet info, install updates, play =p

@twobugs are you really mad because I said "practically" instead of "literally"? I'm basically agreeing with you here

Also it's been over a day and a half and @Wipqozn has not talked me into immediately buying Civ, so I'm considering that a success

You know, having actually used consoles I had an idea how they work. But I'm glad two people who haven't touched consoles in years are shouting me down

9:49 PM
Who's shouting?

It's an expression.
And I'm getting extreme hostility from you guys

No you're not

You're accusing me of lying
So yes

This whole "you can't do this thing" is you telling me I am lying

9:52 PM
Er, uhm, no? You even said yourself that there are games you can't do this thing (I could quote it again)

For the record, I never said you can't do this thing :P

Anyway, let me just apologize again for liking something you guys don't and I'm going to go do something else now because I'm tired of dealing with this

Sure, whatever
I don't get your problem here but eh

@KevinvanderVelden ...

But if we compare, for example, PS2 and PS3/4, an old person with no tech knowledge wouldn't be able to set up a freshly bought modern console, unlike PS2, which was literally as plug and play as it gets

9:53 PM
I just got attacked by you two and it's "whats your problem"

@twobugs Why do you keep throwing me in this group of people that "attacked" you?

Trying to have a discussion is not attacking, to my knowledge

have I been blocked?

@KevinvanderVelden Talking down to someone is not having a discussion
You're not engaging in this conversation on a reasonable or honest level

I guess it wouldn't be the first time @twobugs blocks me

9:55 PM
@Chippies I didn't block you but this whole thing started with you yelling at me about how consoles are evil

I certainly did not intend to talk down to you, if you feel that then please in the future say so

So yes, I'm including you

@twobugs 1) I did not yell 2) I did not say they're evil, I said they're not as plug and play as they used to be back in the day
I also said for what it's worth ,they're as plug and play as it gets in 2016

(Ubisoft is evil though, I hope we can all agree on that (not as evil as EA though))

Actually this started when I mentioned some misgivings about the PS4 Pro and since then I've been treated like a damn child for owning a gamebox you don't
So yes, I'm a little frustrated

9:56 PM
@KevinvanderVelden You're evil D:

I've been lectured about how consoles work in extremely inaccurate methods by two people who I doubt have touched a console in years

@twobugs I was having a discussion about the consoles with you, then @KevinvanderVelden said the consoles aren't plug and play anymore, to which I somewhat agreed to, then it all went down south real fast

And also I've never, at any point, blocked you so I have no clue what you meant before

And also then I quoted you yourself saying it happens after saying it does't so I wouldn't call it lecturing
Also I do have an xbox 360 sitting right under my tv
And a wii
Not a gamecube, that one's in storage due to backwards compatabillity from the wii

@twobugs pretty sure you did mention blocking me once a long time ago, but maybe you just said that you would and we disengaged and it never happened

9:59 PM
No I'm pretty sure you made that up

Okay

@KevinvanderVelden Literally not what I said
I get that English is your second language and I don't know if this is a language barrier thing or what
But you're trying to internet lawyer what you claimed was a 'friendly' convo
Look this kind of stuff pisses me off because I get mistreated by people and then I'm the bad guy when I stick up for myself
I'm sure I'll have someone barge in, ping me saying how unreasonable I am

@twobugs riiiiight

It's stupid and I'm tired of it. So bye.

Q: Is there a way to close Skyrim without using the task manager?

user3435009When the game freeze, I can't access the task manager by using crtl alt delete, because the game screen covers the task manager and I can't click on the task manager. 10:02 PM
I remember the other day @BenBrocka saying that it'll be generally done installing by the time he's got back to the sofa and sat down.

@KevinvanderVelden So for the native english speakers, this quoted message does say he has to start installing the game before he can play it right?
Or is there some way to read it I'm missing?

@KevinvanderVelden Technically yes, but the point of the message is that it'll install just the start of the game, so you can play the start while the rest of the game finishes installing,

Well assuming you have space, and it's not like that doesn't take time. And it only works on linear games (because open world games basically can't section off content to load in order)
But alright, he's just being weird

@KevinvanderVelden to be fair though, you are nitpicking a bit :P

@KevinvanderVelden But the time it takes is less than the time it takes for you to even get yourself ready to play.
From the consoles perspective you're the one who takes ages to install :P

10:06 PM
Meh, I say $thing, he says "some of $thing" followed by "never $thing"
@Ronan battle.net has the same thing =p (steam doesn't which is dumb, they should get on it)

if you're being extremely literal then many (or some) console games aren't plug and play, but they're pretty darn close to it
if you wanted an argument, you could've said that a freshly bought console requires a bunch of setup and isn't plug and play
:P

But anyway my point was instead of screaming or saying I'm grasping for straws he could have corrected me and said what @Ronan just said
Or what chippies just said, attack the argument not the person

Okay I was informed this is still going
You did not "attack the argument not the person"
Please continue trying to get the last word, but it's all just friendly and you're not going to be talking down about anyone right?

Welp, time for bed o/

As a side-note: I really recommend Dungeon of the Endless, that game is awesome

10:10 PM
@Chippies Seconded
