Outwitters is a really fun online turn based strategy game. Don't let the "free" price fool you, you can play as one team for free or unlock the others for a one-time price.

@GnomeSlice Practicing your marketing speech?

@StrixVaria Yes.

@GnomeSlice This is the most ad sounding ad you've ever made in the bridge.

@Wipqozn Good.
I want more people to play with me

3:01 PM
@Wipqozn Oh, good, I'm not the only one thinking that

I always lose to randoms

user15026
@SaintWacko I've discovered I can't read on anything for long that isn't e-ink

This Knights of Pen and Paper game turned out to be really shallow. Who would have thought?

@StrixVaria Do you like Tower Defense?

3:03 PM
@GnomeSlice The genre? It's ok.

@fredley whoa

dat loop

@fredley That is an impressive loop.

@fredley What is that?

@SaintWacko It's a gif

3:03 PM
I have come to the conclusion that @GnomeSlice is really a marketing spy and actually gets paid a lot of money to spam games in here all day.

Someone's phone vibrated off their desk and I'm trying not to laugh

@fredley Why is the screen wiggling around in the black part?

You can't get good mobile games now.

@SaintWacko It's stabilized
mobile * worst *

@BenBrocka Was it set to jackhammer mode?

3:04 PM
@fredley Oh, I see. Interesting

@OrigamiRobot it's an old flipphone, those have pretty hardcore vibrate modes

@fredley dat oculus

for @Wipqozn to aspire to

Outwitters is probably my favourite mobile game

@SaintWacko Original

3:05 PM
@GnomeSlice For the next week or so.

@Yuki I've been playing it for like 2 years.
Galcon is a series of real time strategy video games for Android, iPhone, webOS, Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and Flash, which were developed by Phil Hassey. It is set in space and involves maneuvering fleets of ships to capture enemy planets. A PlayStation minis version wasdeveloped and published in October 2011 by Beatshapers. Games The original 1987 Galactic Conquest by Rick Raddatz was a shareware title for the PC. It ws a multiplayer conquest game similar to the board game Risk and based on a game called Stellar Invasion by Bearbyte software. Galcon Classic was released for the desktop...
I've been playing that for like 5 years.

@BenBrocka I guess they didn't have anything else to drain battery with

The community is definitely dwindling but it's still there

@fredley Oh, wow. Hurgh. Okay, stabilization is good

Depict was fun until makeshift games shut down the server

I need a userscript to automatically hide chat messages containing certain strings.

Q: Should I mantain Cloning Bay powered when traveling?

SysDragonWhen traveling through space you can encounter some events that kill some crew member, but having the Cloning Bay you can "resurrect" them at the end. To have the opportunity to do that is necessary to have the Cloning Bay powered with at least one power, or I can have it unpowered an still be a...

Q: Minecraft why cant i connect to the Ravand server?1.7.4/1.7.5

yanivloren77I have a problem that you might know the answer for it. I want to play on the Ravand server and i cant log on to it. Sometimes it just keep showing the waiting screen and sometimes it says:"Could not connect to default or fallback server, please try again later." If you know the solution for thi...

Or userstyle. Whatever works.

user15026
Man, Lazers, you take up so much screenspace.

@OrigamiRobot What messages are you looking to hide?

@Wipqozn Messages containing certain strings.

3:19 PM
@OrigamiRobot That doesn't directly answer my question at all! You're so secretive.

He means messages that contain "certain strings" obviously

@Wipqozn It's not important what specific strings.

@OrigamiRobot I know, I'm just nosy.

@OrigamiRobot It is always important to have sample data to find edge cases! What if your string is in Chinese?
What if the string has \0 characters?

so...

3:21 PM
Fine, for the sake of argument, let's say I want to hide all messages containing "sloth"

why do I need to buy nVidia GPUs from... Gigabyte or ASUS or MSI instead of nVidia?
extremely naive question alert
noob spotted noob spotted danger

@badp nvidia makes the chips and a reference design, but they don't sell to consumers directly or mass-produce boards.
some 3rd party buys the chips, lays out the boards, manufactures them, and sells them.

@agent86 okay, so what do I want to look out for when comparing the "clones" given the rather wild price differences? is 2GB of memory enough? etc.
(why am I living in a country where people haven't already thought the details through for me!!)

@badp I'd suggest reading reviews. most of the time, though, the boards are identical to the reference design, so the "middle of the pack" boils down to customer support and pack-in stuff.
there are some higher-end cases where they put bigger fans, heatsinks, higher clock rates, maybe more graphics memory, etc
I used /r/buildapc for advice last time I built (about a year ago)
you get a lot of enthusiast opinions and price/performance comparisons from them.
just be careful that you're not overspending because of something you don't care about. for instance, if you don't care to max out the graphical options in the bleeding edge games, you might not need to spend the extra cash for the higher end cards.

The biggest difference is often cooling, sometimes non-reference design cards can be a lot quieter.

3:28 PM
yeah, I ended up buying a high airflow case from coolermaster, and a more reference oriented graphics card. didn't see the point in spending a bunch of extra cash for fans in the GPU when I could just cool the whole case more efficiently.
plus the case fans are all stock sizes and can be replaced easily.
it's a matter of opinion, however. there's certainly something to be said for efficient GPU coolers.

wtf I'm a zombie
in dark souls

I'd generally buy the reference design, and then it doesn't matter much from which company. Though if there is a signficantly quieter design available for not much more money that can also be a good idea

yeah, the price/performance ratio is kind of the most important thing imho. review sites will stack up the most popular cards of the most popular chipsets and give you an idea as to where each one excels.

@OrigamiRobot you could use the jQuery contains() selector

the reference designs tend to be cheaper because there is less engineering effort involved. they've already got a working design, so it's just a matter of building it.

3:32 PM
@GnomeSlice Yes. You're hollowed,

e.g. var DivBGone = $("div div:contains('Annoying text, CASE SENSITIVE')");
DivBGone.remove();

@Krazer I am not a programmer.

$60 best values are for chumps

@OrigamiRobot I...what? I thought you were.

@Wipqozn Can't tell if serious.

3:35 PM
@OrigamiRobot ORIGAMI ROBOTS CANNOT PROGRAM: DATA ACCEPTED

@agent86 ermagherd informed purchases

holy crap. AutoCAD is graphical program?

@BenBrocka (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

@OrigamiRobot is a graphic designer? My entire world view ha been shattered.

@BenBrocka ISN'T MERICA LAND WORTH IT?

3:37 PM
I wouldn't call it graphics design. Isn't it more like engineering diagrams?

AND PEOPLE WILL PROBABLY DO IT

@Wipqozn Can't tell if serious.

PEOPLE ARE THE WORST
2

@Sterno oh, it is

@Unionhawk DAMN PEOPLES!

3:38 PM
@badp you are quite welcome, good sir. hopefully some of that was useful.

I used AutoCAD for one whole trimester in college. It was awful.

@Wipqozn there exist an extendable programming environment.

@agent86 I have been so far removed from a functional computer I really kinda have a hard time setting priorities

I once won an AutoCAD competition.
that was a long time ago, though.

There are AutoCAD competitions?

3:39 PM
like... I want to play games I bought without downclocking my brain to 15 fps

@agent86 What did you do? Draw the straightest line without using shift?

and do so for the next $YEARS

user15026
Woooo I am getting the hang of my work :D

I used to use Autocad
I always preferred the CLI instead of the GUI

that's the main thing

3:40 PM
@badp go to /r/buildapc and give them your budget and ask for help. you'll walk away very well informed.

@AshleyNunn Woo! From here it's only a few weeks until you're so competent at it that you find it monotonous and want to stab yourself to make it end!

@AshleyNunn What are you doing again? Didn't catch that
@Sterno Shhh! Don't tell her that!

@OrigamiRobot they gave us a thing and an amount of time and told us to represent that thing in AutoCAD. I think I came in second for how far I got and the level of accuracy in the drawing.

@agent86 I tried wetting my feet there and got ignored

Also, people should come play Diablo with me

3:41 PM
@Sterno Or other people, depending on the job

turned out to be a halfway useful skill in engineering classes, which were kind of orthogonal to the rest of my computer engineering degree, but still interesting.

Q: Gta5 online insureance glitch?

user74165In gta5 online I have heard that the players that blow up your PV(personal vehicle) they have to pay for your insurance. but with me when other players blow up my PV I have to pay for it. is this a glitch and if so how do I fix it.

I'm an Electrical Engineer. I don't even draw buildings or anything like that.

Gonna star that to give @Wipqozn a lot of time to soak it in.

@badp just post a new thread. guess at how much PC you can buy, and ask for suggestions. or you could look at a "midrange box" build at one of the major tech sites.

3:43 PM
@OrigamiRobot Some places insist you are able to do traditional engineer things before they grant you the "Engineer" label

Software Engineers aren't.

user15026
@SaintWacko Grading sports bets/doing support (grading being I check who won/lost the bets)

@AshleyNunn Oh, that's right. That actually sounds interesting

user15026
@Sterno Shush you, don't ruin this

where I've worked, the line tends to be in the ability to do analysis and architecture of code. there are a lot of code-generation-humanoids, but "engineering" is more of a planning and ability to assess skill that not all possess.

user15026
3:45 PM
@SaintWacko It is actually really fascinating. I am learning a lot of stuff :)

user15026
Also someone bought me coffee so I am really really really awake

user15026
and vibrating a little

@agent86 My company is called Software Engineering Professionals and the lowest title is "Software Engineer 1". We don't make that distinction.

I would like to make pretty castles in the sky and drop them on unsuspecting fellows
then redesign them all the way to the the classic catypus-with-hand-on-back

I think I should start linking music in the mornings instead of in the evening.

3:47 PM

Mmm, some bone in my Chipotle chicken burrito. Yum!

@Sterno go back and demand satisfaction!

@Krazer But they don't serve queso, so satisfaction is impossible.

@badp This reminds me of the swing image.

@Sterno I stand corrected.

3:49 PM
@Sterno Oh, I thought he was suggesting you should challenge your burrito maker to a duel.

> The traditional situation that led to a duel often happened after the offense. Whether real or imagined, one party would demand satisfaction from the offender.

Google Image Searching "burrito duel" turns up some crazy shit, but no burrito duels.

That's a new perk

user15026
3:51 PM
@Yuki Yeah, that was what I thought too :P

@AshleyNunn Great minds think alike.

user15026
I was fully expecting him to say he was going to slap the burrito provider with a glove to indicate the need for duel

@AshleyNunn Or just throw down a glove at his feet.

Oh!

3:52 PM
Song for bad duelists

> Contrary to popular belief, hitting one in the face with a glove was not a challenge, but could be done after the glove had been thrown down as a response to the one issuing the challenge.
So, the burrito provider would be the one who would slap @Sterno in the face, not the other way around.

I need to start wearing gloves.

The other day, my girlfriend's daughter was carrying a glove, and got in trouble for something, and as she stalks off to her room, she threw the glove down on the ground
I love it when kids do something like that without realizing what it means
Especially when it's appropriate for the situation

@BenBrocka I wish Kickstarter forced companies to include with stretch goals how many extra months the stretch goals will delay delivery of the product
like "Linux support (add 3 months)" or "Add MMO (add 7 years)"

user15026
@Yuki I just like the idea of people slapping each other over burritos (which I keep spelling at burriots)

user15026
3:56 PM
@SaintWacko That's excellent

@AshleyNunn Well... it is a riot, isn't it?

user15026
@Powerlord Truth.

So, here's Last Night's Listening for those who missed it.
Side note, I'm on Season 6 of Castle now.

@badp It's safe to assume any game related kickstarter project will be at least a year late

@BenBrocka Shadowgate remake's already 6 months late! :P
or was that 5 months.

4:04 PM
I'm not sure how late my projects are, but I know a few are, and several aren't even due to ship yet (but will probably also be delayed)

@BenBrocka are they games?

woah! :O

Yeah, my only non-game project released on time (Anamanaguchi's kickstarter)

Speaking of late, the second half of Broken Age was supposed to come out this month. Lets see how long it takes.

a CS:GO knife skin sold for almost 24k

4:05 PM
And that was easier because the album was already done

@Chippies ... I need to start playing that game.

@Yuki I doubt it's that easy, but me too!

user15026
@Chippies ...in-game? Or actual real money?

@AshleyNunn Real money.

@Chippies For a second I thought that was a decimal point.

4:07 PM
@AshleyNunn actual real money

user15026
@Yuki Jesus, why?

for a skin?!

I assume this wasn't through the Steam market, seeing as how they cap the transaction amount.

@AshleyNunn Because people will shell out all amount of cash for exclusive or rare content.

@AshleyNunn people with a lot of money and nowhere to put it

4:07 PM
It's another way of making yourself a super special snowflake.
To put it in Tumblr terms.

Seems potentially money-launder-y too

@BenBrocka That's... also entirely possible.

user15026
@Yuki But you can't even TOUCH it and if the game goes dark the money is gone and aaaaaa why

Oh speaking of which, I see I can finally market Strange TF2 items now. I should start selling off the rarer ones I have on my other account.

user15026
I cant even imagine having that kind of money to throw around

4:09 PM
(Well, "common" rarer ones)

@Yuki I think that's part of the $400 limit on steam marketplace

@BenBrocka I assume so. Steam also has restrictions on what you can do with payment methods just added to a Steam account.

user15026
The site I use for my regular sport checking makes noises for everything which is good because then I know when games are done but it also makes me twitch because I am hyper caffeinated and the noises always surprise me :P

@Chippies Christ, that's more than the $5500 number the first TF2 gold pan got

Xbox One ruined the words SPORTS for me

4:13 PM
It's snowing (and raining). It is mid-april

@AshleyNunn Which games are you tracking anyway?

user15026
@Powerlord What do you mean?

@Sterno Sports TV Sports TV TV Sports Sports Sports Sports TV Sports TV Game Sports TV Sports

@AshleyNunn I assume you're only tracking specific esports games.

@FEichinger MT DEW

user15026
4:14 PM
@Powerlord I track whatever people bet on. :)

@Sterno Oh, right, yes, that too.

Oh, 1983!

I was just thinking that some eSports are more likely to be bet on than others. Starcraft 2 being the main one that comes to mind there.
or Starcraft 1

@Powerlord lets not forget fighting games

@Krazer True.

user15026
4:16 PM
Right now I am tracking dota 2 WPC ACE League and SC2 2014 Proleague.

I admit, I was thinking primarily PC games.

user15026
Mainly it seems to be dota2, SC2, and LoL

@AshleyNunn no Evo?

Yeah, those are the main games out there in the "esports" world

4:18 PM
@Sterno I don't see most of those "traditional Christian terms" as traditionally Christian.
Actually, I don't think of any of those "traditional Christian terms" as traditionally Christian.

user15026
@Krazer Not as of yet.

user15026
@Sterno This hurts my brainmeat

@Sterno If it's only a game, why have I resorted to this annoying paragraph structure?

In fact, the one traditionally Christian term they seem to be missing is "cultural appropriation".

@Yuki But for just $5 (in 1983 money) they'll send you a handbook detailing their research about the dangers of D&D!

4:20 PM
@Sterno Also I want to see this author's reaction to The Binding of Isaac

@Yuki they're legacy Christians

Satan is real, and he wants your child's mind!

Satan is real and he really likes unusually shaped dice

user15026
@BenBrocka I think they would just keel over

@BenBrocka One must assume he was a grumpy 90 year old man when he wrote that in 1983 and is now dead.
> Brian Wolfe says that the rule books have frighteningly realistic drawings of monsters or demons and he wonders if the originator of the game is involved in witchcraft or sorcery.
"Frighteningly realistic"

4:24 PM
@Sterno That just goes to show how popular D&D was in that particular town. People only get angry at things they know about.

of monsters. and demons

@Sterno Pokemon

@Sterno This one wonders if Brian Wolfe is involved in witchcraft and sorcery because he seems to know what monsters and/or demons look like and can therefore call rulebook drawings "realistic".

I remember when I was about 12 and at a friend's birthday party I ran a game of it (no one else had ever played) and one kid went home because he was scared of it and then his parents complained to the birthday boy's parents about how it was demonic

Q: Does Crash ever visit the other 12 planets in his star system?

ZibbobzIn Crash Bandicoot 2, we learn that Crash and Co. exist in another solar system from this quote by Dr. Neo Cortex. There are crystals to be gathered, 30 to be precise. The planets will align shortly, all 13 of them. This means that besides the planet they are on, there's a dozen other plan...

4:27 PM
@Sterno I wasbusy playing Mario 64 during my lunch break (we have an N64 in the office), so thank you for letting me know.

@Wipqozn why an N64 of all things and no Smash?

> "This game does not have an element of evil," said Rev. Durand. "It is completely evil."
Even having experienced some of this it's hard to believe this was such a widespread controversy. It seems so ridiculous as to be unbelievable.

@Krazer Because reasons. We've got Goldeneye though. Also Star fox. Also Diddy Kong Racing.
Also Mario KArt, but it doesn't work.

@Wipqozn the cartridge contacts probably need to be cleaned. I've ran into the same issue a few months back

@Krazer neeeeergh what no why

4:39 PM
> Another thing the creator states is that the shirt is a joke.

@Sterno ... How could they not realize that a donation from Gary Gygax, or in his name, would not be in some way related to D&D?

user15026
@Krazer This link makes me feel better

Okay, I'm done now. Resume your previously scheduled Diablo 3 loot discussions

user15026
@Yuki It's a Christian (likely fundie) group. They'd likely not done their research

4:41 PM
@Yuki it would've been funnier if it wasn't

I started playing the Pokemon TCG because my family took my MtG cards away saying they were satanic.

@OrigamiRobot Now, if they'd taken them away because you'd spend thousands of dollars on them, THEN they'd have an argument

@AshleyNunn The sad thing is how little research it would require.
It's literally two steps.

@Sterno At the time, I had barely spent any money on them.

> "That D&D thing is evil incarnate."
> "I wonder what foul demonic thing created it?"

4:43 PM
@OrigamiRobot They could predict the future.

Google search, boom.

Which, coincidentally, means they were probably consorting with demons. Evil soothsayers!

> Them: "That X is evil incarnate."
> Me: "No."
Blanket statement for all X
And all values of "Them"

@Unionhawk X = @Wipqozn

user15026
@OrigamiRobot That might be the one exception

4:45 PM
@Unionhawk Especially true for Them == @Unionhawk as all statements by @Unionhawk evaluate to false.

@OrigamiRobot He's the worst, but not evil incarnate. Decidedly.

X = Westboro Baptist Church

...you make an excellent point

@OrigamiRobot Not so much "evil incarnate" as "symbol of everything that's wrong with the world and humanity". I mean, they haven't gotten to murder and other such things yet.
And oh god, I just realized that Westboro can go lower than they already are.

@Yuki Just because someone hasn't done all the evil things doesn't mean they aren't evil.

4:50 PM
@OrigamiRobot I'm gonna go look up the definition for "incarnate" just in case I have it wrong in my head.
> represented in the ultimate or most extreme form.
So, I think for someone to be considered "evil incarnate", they'd have to do all the evil things.

@Yuki Not having done something doesn't mean one isn't capable of doing that thing.

Doge is meme incarnate

I'm not disputing that Westboro is evil, I'm just not sure if that's considered evil incarnate.

@Yuki labels are subjective, evil doubly so.

Question: If something is described by the same subjective label by everyone, barring the something in question, is it then considered an objective label?

4:53 PM
The main point I was making was that I don't, personally, believe that the judgement of "X is evil incarnate" is appropriate to make, from a philosophical standpoint. And I don't mean to get all catholic again, but that's really not our call to make. We can say that people have done evil things though. That's perfectly allowed.

"symbol of everything that's wrong with the world and humanity" pretty much describes evil incarnate.

Oh, I am really liking this episode.

I bet I would be bad at that.

> What starts out as a straightforward murder case takes a turn towards the perplexing when three people all confess to the crime - and while all three know details of the murder that only the killer could know, each exonerates the others.

4:56 PM
Man, the day goes a lot faster when I am not stuck at home :D

@AshleyNunn You should watch Castle! And if you have, you should definitely catch up! And if you have, we should totally talk about it!
Oh, other interesting thing is that two of the three people (haven't seen the third yet) have no motive for killing the victim.
