I think we're all reading too deep into this. Most games I play (this is me though) are in first person and all I see is a hand with a gun or a sword. Usually I don't notice the gender based on the arm.

Glitch was such a strange game. Avatars had no explicit gender. The female:male player ratio is 70:30, and I know of at least half a dozen player who created genderbend avatars

I was never a huge B5 fan, but part of what made it good was it was one of the first sci-fi/fantasy TV shows that seemed to be heavily into story arcs.

That's pretty common these days though, so it's lost a lot of that "specialness"
