Depends on the weapon you use. The heavier the weapon, the more cumbersome and unresponsive the controls feel

Another example is the pause menu. It doesn't pause the game. That by itself, no problem. The problem comes when the menu itself takes up a miniscule portion of the corner of the screen and allows you to do some things like movement while unable to attack or block. And with the combat coming in bursts like it does, it makes it really easy to not realize you're still in the menu. Sure, it adds to the "You have to pay attention" theme, but any game that uses the UI to punish you is just bad.
