The one about the rec API?

Q&A should only be part of it. If you can do a proper recommendation without any human intervention, all the better.

It might work for commoners.

But if you do need human intervention, the automatic bit still helps and learns.

@GraceNote Pareto principle. 80% of the people will only need 20% of the site.

11:03 PM
@ArdaXi By commoners I meant more like 90+%

If they can log on, upload some data on their gaming from Steam or Xfire or XBL or wherever, enter some criteria they want (games like this, games with these things) and get a proper recommendation, the site's job is done.

I know a lot of people who have quirky enough issues to break mechanisms, but by consequence I know that statistically speaking we don't even make up 1% of the people who would even access such a resource.
Hence the vast majority would work exactly through that.

@GraceNote Exactly, but that's my point. An automatic system is never fool-proof. If it isn't, we use the human intervention bit.

@ArdaXi Aye, I don't think it needs to be, either.

Exactly.

11:05 PM
We're in agreement, you know. Probably 100% agreement.

We can even do "This guy is asking for a recommendation with lots of tags that you have on your profile. Can you help her out?"

So let's do the one other thing that we agree on - destroy badp.

Well, you know, I tried, but we had too little time and too many witnesses!

Curses! Foiled again!

Luckily, when we do the Dutch meet-up, we can all talk Dutch and conspire while he has no clue.

11:07 PM
You guys have too many consonants.

@GraceNote Daar doen we het voor. :)

@GraceNote Je hebt gelijk
wow Lunatic's nuts
did Stage 1 in practice on Lunatic with Reimu to see how it was
geez

So, now all this game-rec thingy needs is hosting and a designer.

@ArdaXi If you need someone to say "That looks horribad, change it" I volunteer!

I could do it all by myself but it would look like crap.

Me and Mana were just going to use Bootstrap from Twitter.

Except I have no HTML or CSS skills. But I can tell you if it's ugly!

I can make stuff based on function, but very definitely not on form.

user30
and use Ruby.

Or has bad usability for the average person

user30
11:11 PM
because Ruby is awesome

user30
and I can write it with some degree of proficiency.

Okay, I'm out.

user30
:)

@Grace Oh huh, you can collect Spell Cards in practice mode?

I hate Ruby.

11:11 PM
@FallenAngelEyes Aye, you can.

Not so much for the language itself, but for its community.

Interesting

user30
waghbl, ETF2L signups are open for Season 10

user30
time to assemble my team

The .NET community consists of professionals and corporate users. The Ruby community consists of hipsters with Macbooks and netbooks.

11:12 PM
But capturing in practice mode ain't all that good as capturing in a normal playthrough, o'co'rs'

How can you code on a netbook? I can't figure it out.

@Arda shrug? I mean, the standard for code width is 80 chars/line, so it fits nicely on a netbook screen.

user30
bah why is none of my team online ><

user30
oh well, we can sort it in the morning

@Mana You've never worked on a project before have you?
It's not just about code.

user30
11:15 PM
oh, and highlander medals are up!

user30
yay

You have documentation you need to look up, debugging, readmes, files.

Oh, I know.

I can't fathom someone developing a project with less than 2 screens.

But I meant just the coding part

11:15 PM
@ArdaXi Eheheh?

user30
I work on a 13" laptop.

user30
Don't need any more space

I guess I'm just spoiled, but I cannot work with only one screen.

Throughout college and when I actually got employed, I've only ever worked on one screen

IMO it's easier to work on one screen

user30

Two screens helps a lot, though

user30
oh my god look at that medal

user30
it's so shiny

since when I'm on two screens I'm more apt to get distracted by this place

(So I hear, at least)
Hum. The room name is the Bridge, but my page title still calls it The Suspension Bridge. Guess they can't really update that, or summat.
And yet it updates whenever there are unread messages...

Q: Where is Ning located during the quest "Rotten Business?"

Dave McClellandIn the quest "Rotten Business," you are able to bribe Chaunli into giving you the location of Ning. As you can see, I don't take well to people asking for my money. Now the quest has no marker and simply tells me that I have to find her the hard way and that she's somewhere in the Daigong dis...

Q: Can I exchange my character for another one of a similar level?

AlexI'm re-playing Borderlands and have tried playing as Mordecai, the sniper. However, I'm not really enjoying it that much (still around level 15 though, so early). I'd like to change my level 15 Mordecai to a level 15 Brick, or Lilith, as I've already played with Roland. I know it's still early in...

Anyway, the reason I like developing in .NET has nothing to do with the language itself. It's the tools I get.
Debugging in Visual Studio easily beats anything else.

user30
Yeah, and I like developing in Ruby because of the language

user30
hrm, apparently you can't use description tags on medals

user30
that's annoying

@ThomasMcDonald Don't get me wrong, I love C# too.
But I think the tools are more important.

user30
11:24 PM
TextMate/vim for me

This is a problem I run into whenever I think about trying to learn how to code

user30
but yeah, we need two misc slots already, so I can wear my earbuds and my medal.

I ask 5 different programmers what language I should learn and get 6 opinions

user30
brainfuck is a good starting point

Yeah, brainfuck is about the best there is.

user30
11:26 PM
oop, @Mana, you best remove that, brainfuck is a banned word on SE

user30
or it halfheartedly is

@FallenAngelEyes Well, no.
To be honest it's always difficult to tell where to start. It's all about finding a language that you feel comfortable using.'
Once you learn the basics of a programming language they tend to be pretty extendable from one language to the next; it usually becomes a matter of syntax for switching languages after that point.
So really you can start anywhere, pick up the basics, and then try and figure out what programming language you actually like.
That was a pretty general statement though; this won't work with all languages since some of them vary greatly in terms of design and usage.

@Mana Yeah... I just end up never knowing where to start and saying "fuck it"

Personally, I would recommend Python as a starter language since it was designed to more closely resemble natural language, so the syntax is pretty easy to pick up.

> Fucking horrible deal Setlet. A friend got offered a P. Energy Towering Pillar(the other guy’s a bit hesitant), and I just got offered around 80-100$ paypal for mine, or a Vivid Plasma Pickelhaube.

user30
eh

user30
that was when the participation medal was tradable

user30
there's 8k of those things

So for shits and giggles, sometimes I type the beginnings of common questions into Google to see what the autocomplete gives me
I typed in "What do I do if" and the first result is "What do I do if a ginger bites me?"
What the fuck, internet. What. The. Fuck.

user30
grr, why are my other 5 players offline

Q: What are the benefits of importing your old character in Penny Arcade Adventures: Episode 2?

jsnlxndrlvIn Episode 2 of the Penny Arcade Adventures XBLA/PSN game, you have the option of either making a new character or importing your old character (by accessing your end-of-game save data from Episode 1). Is there any benefit to doing so, aside from a greater sense of continuity? Do acquisitions fro...
