I just realized I never fixed my startup CPU cores since I moved TF2 servers

So, essentially I was binding both my TF2 servers to cores 2-4... on a 2 core system.

(whoops)

Essentially, both ended up with a processor mask of 2... Which is the bitmask 00000010 meaning second core only.

What resource is hosting a game like that hardest on? I'd assume cpu and memory, but that'd be an assumption...

That depends, but at certain times, TF2 can have a lot going on CPU wise.

I've noticed weird lag spikes that occur to everyone on the server, and I'm now wondering if that was why.

What about memory and disk? Are they ever bottlenecks?

@Basil They can be, particularly if you're using SourceTV to record demos of everything (or Replay which does largely the same thing, but users can choose to save replays).

However, I have SourceTV off and I'm offloading replays to another machine via FTP.

I've noticed a difference in fighting with a saber since the beta, it now flashes occasionally. Anyone know what this means? I'm not sure if it's a parry/block or critical?

Q: does gaming kill brain cells?

I know that a lot of gaming can be related to fatigue, RSI, dizzyness and that this can get worst by age (e.g a 25 years old is much "stronger" at this than a 55 years old). But does it actually kill brain cells in the way alcohol or drugs do?

I haven't ever really seen memory problems with TF2, likely because Valve only loads the models for items the first time on a map that someone equips them.

Since TF2 has well over 600 weapon, misc, and item models now, that's important.

So if you're building a system, what's the limiting factor that determines the number of simultaneous players?

@agent86 I paid the old price of $120, and yes, it was worth it. (it also has a bass speaker in it, so you feel the train.)

Q: Why should I use the Item Modification Table in SWTOR?

It seems that any modification you can do to a weapon on the Item Modification Table can also be done from Inventory. Why are there so many tables and why would I want to use them?
