Steam Sale Finale time, lets see what's up...
STALKER for 5 bucks is tempting

@IvoFlipse If you hit the right keywords you can get an insane amount of views. That Kinect vision problems question got 5k views in less than a day. We're now at 15-16k views/day, that is double the amount it was when I joined, so we're doing fine I think

oh we are doing very well @Fabian, it's just if you want to help: ask more
I gave Apple.SE a Christmas present to boost their Google-fu

Q: Terminal Tips and Tricks For Mac OS X

Josh KOne tip or trick per answer. My favorite is open . Opens the folder you're currently browsing in Finder. You can also pass URLs, images, documents or else to open. If you specify a program name with -a you can pass the URL, image, document or folder to that program instead, e.g. open -a Pre...

got 140k views on Super User

My top questions have something like 80k views together, I'm already busy asking and sometimes lucky with my Google-Fu ;-)

I didn't know this existed.

@syrion Welcome to our Gaming.SE chat

8:06 PM
Hi :)
LessPop_MoreFizz, note that the STALKER sale is for the newest Stalker, which is still selling for $50 normally. I thought it was a mistake when I first saw it.

Woo Hoo 9k!

I'm mostly a stackoverflow guy, I haven't hung around gaming.se much yet

@syrion Yeah, I know, which is why it's so damned tempting

holy crap, that one question got a shit load of views @Fabian
here I was thinking my SO questions got a decent amount of views

I'm now officially the owner of the most viewed question on Gaming.SE ;-)

8:08 PM
gratz ;)

My highest one on SO barely got 1k views
It totally depends on the game

I'm lucky to get 30
my questions are too esoteric

My two most viewed questions are at 2k :(

my most viewed one sucks and I had to write 'an' answer myself :(

@IvoFlipse I did check at some point, and the question was in the top 10 google results for the relevant key words. And trust me, the first thing everybody playing Fallout wants is the Power Armor. And I cheated by having an Ad for that question running on SO ;-)

8:12 PM
It bugs me that I got the most rep of any answer i've ever given on SO from the easiest answer I've ever given

@Fabian I do however, have the most viewed accepted answer. :)

@syrion That's always the case, my most profitable answer is still answering "Portal" to a game-rec question

Which, strangely, has earned me less rep than:
20
A: What's the purpose of sitting down in Fallout 3?

LessPop_MoreFizzThere's no gameplay purpose to sitting down. It's purely for the purposes of immersion/roleplaying/atmosphere, and for taking nice screenshots.

@LessPop_MoreFizz And you have that epic answer on my companion quest question

@Fabian Yes, which has earned half as much rep as 'what is the purpose of sitting down?'

8:14 PM
I sometimes suspect that the upvotes are inverse proportional to the number of characters in my answers

you can actually check that on data.SE.com

Well, despite the imperfections of the reputation system the site seems to work

I wonder if anyone clicked the hidden joke link in that companion quest answer.
Or even found it.

Any of you played Amnesia?
Also, there should be a cooking.stackexchange.com

there is @syrion ;P

8:24 PM
what!
how did i miss this

try your own link, I just edited it

it has an awesome theme and everything

:o
I never saw it mentioned or linked...

We don't talk about it because it isn't so dysfunctional as to be entertaining (like Math).

8:30 PM
math is hilarious
they have two sites, both of whom hate each other
how does that even make sense

@LessPop_MoreFizz I would have expected gamers to be a pretty difficult bunch, not mathematicians

Mathoverflow isn't part of StackExchange
and even the site we do have, has factions within itself that hate each other
I never knew autistics hated authority

Gamers are difficult, but each gaming site attracts a different demographic within gamers
there's a sort of hierarchy -- something like GameFAQs < NeoGAF < Penny-Arcade < Something Awful games forums < Rock Paper Shotgun

which is why we try to cater to the civilized ones :P

Hopefully nobody on here plays FPS on consoles :D

8:37 PM
by the way welcome to the room @syrion

<flamewar>
Thanks, @badp

Q: PC to PS3 transition - FPS

Tejaswi YerukalapudiSo, I've been a PC gamer for virtually all of my life, and got a PS3 finally. I found racing / sport / classic 1v1 fighting games the best and the easiest to adapt to. But one thing bugs the crap out of me though, I just cant get the hang of playing First person shooters on PS3. I used to be an a...

Q: Recommendation for developing FPS console controller skills

DavidI have an Xbox 360 that's pretty much loaded up with old arcade games, rhythm games and a few others. There's a game coning out soon that looks to be a FPS that I'm interested in. Unfortunately, when I popped in my daughter's copy of "Halo 3" just to get a feel for controlling a FPS game, I stu...

Q: Guide for improving aim at First Person Shooters in consoles

kurastI have played Half Life and Counter Strike since 2001 and many others since, so I have some years of experience in playing fps games in computers, with mouse and keyboard. While I am not very good, I manage to almost always with the top 5 players on my team. However, when I play on the PS3, fps...

I was kidding. ;)
personally, I'm terrible at console FPS, but I'm not prejudiced against them

Just saying SE can do flame war topics in a civil manner :)
Here's a classic:

Q: vim vs. emacs... and no, this is not a flame war

John BerrymanUp front, I would like to extend this question only to those who are (at least occasionally) users of both vim and emacs and who haven't already decided in their hearts "I hate the one and love the other" (few thought they may be). How would you compare these editors? What are the high points o...

hah. nice.

8:48 PM
Let me try something.
Yay, it worked.
21 messages moved to Slack Overflow

What? 21 messages moved to stack overflow?

Almost.

Seems like a lot of DF coming around lately
might be time to get back into that game again...

Nah, it hasn't been long enough since the last version
At the moment it'll be a horribly frustrating experience

9:15 PM
no problem, I have the old one

9:26 PM
Alright, nice to meet you guys; I'll definitely hang out some
Gotta go get food :D

Later.

Is it just me or is this illogical?

@ArdaXi It is indeed.

ha, I had forgotten about Max Payne
That guy always looked like he was smelling some bad cheese

9:45 PM
Gah, Valve should invest in a CDN.

@ArdaXi wat

I said: "Valve should invest in a CDN".

@ArdaXi You mean it doesn't have one?

I mean it doesn't have a good one, anyway.

Oh, okay. ;)

10:24 PM
Oh wow. Amnesia finished downloading
That actually took an hour.

Q: Is it possible to *NOT* get the room at Lucky 38?

John RudyIs it possible to not get the room at Lucky 38, but still complete and win the game? Is this faction-dependent? (I am specifically interested in an "independent New Vegas" solution, but am open to any suggestions. I'm finally on an NCR-centric approach, with Dead Money, but my next game will be i...

@MrMan I'm looking at it.

Thank you, @badp.

$\frac{Arda Xi}{badp}$

@MrMan What did you type in the terminal to run that?

11:19 PM
I did: cd /Applications/ioUrbanTerror.app/Resources/MacOS/ and then ./ioUrbanTerror.ub
and, I'm going to have to download it, again...

@MrMan gah my answer is useless then :)
tell me, is the /Applications/ioUrbanTerror.app/base/ folder there?

Yeah, I left the game folder in my ~/Downloads folder, which I have a cron job set up to clean out every night XD
@badp: No, it isn't.

can you find a base/ folder around then?
It should contain a bunch of pk3 files.
I wish I could run OSX to help you more specifically :|

There isn't a base/ folder anywhere in the application file.

@MrMan How large is the application file again?
If the game data is nowhere then it should be quite small.

11:25 PM
13MB.

I'm sorry -- the folder should've been called q3ut4

Oh.
I just moved the application into my /Application folder.
Not the q3ut4 folder.
I'm redownloading the game now.
With a torrent, ETA 11m.

@MrMan Whoops :)

Heh. So that's my problem then?

@alexanderpas oy
@MrMan Yeah, that folder holds all the actual game data :)

11:30 PM
Oh, ok.

@alexanderpas That would be quite a big number. No offence, @badp.

Well, I'm glad that I'll be able to play it now :D

It's merely 740 megs of data.

Ah, yeah.

@ArdaXi Actually it's pretty close to 1.

11:31 PM
Heh, that's more than an Ubuntu ISO :P

if it worked remember to accept my answer :)

I will.

@badp Definitely bigger than 1.

I know how all this SE stuff works, don't worry ;)

1.012
Cool :)

11:32 PM
hmm... is badp a small devisor or not?

I went ahead an upvoted your answer.
Thanks for the help!

Make that 1.010

1.337?

I was trying to say, if \frac{a}{b} > 1 then a > b

@MrMan You're welcome. That was actually kinda interesting to look at.

11:33 PM
Given that, \frac{Arda Xi}{badp} must be > 1

What made it interesting?

@ArdaXi really? It's getting closer and closer still to 1.

Of course this is all theoretical, you can't divide by zero. ;-)

@MrMan I saw the problem right away; finding out why the path was empty wasn't that simple though. :)

Ah. Ok. Cool.
Someone in the SU chat suggested that I run it from terminal and post the error I get.
Heh.

11:34 PM
@MrMan That was a very good move indeed!

Yeah. I'll remember to do that whenever I get a problem like an application not launching.

1.009

4m left ^^

Heh, stupid US International keyboard layout :P

11:35 PM
all hail stdout!

@badp You're going by a.rep vs b.rep
I meant a vs b

You got piped!

Which is impossible since b = 0.

@ArdaXi a XOR b?

@ArdaXi I have an 'a' too, mind you.

11:36 PM
The equation was

Yes, so? You can't split that in multiple tokens.

No, you can't, but you can assign arbitrary values.

7k! \o/

All I care about is that

1.008

11:38 PM
@badp is that needed?

@alexanderpas It could've been.

@badp you should know yourself better. ;)

I should go to sleep now. Bye.

@ArdaXi If you were right you would've had a segmentation fault right there

11:40 PM
Dear god context needed.

NULL.reputation
@Mana Maaaaaaaana. You don't want that.

@badp True, but it's still correct.

I just walk in here and see Arda Xi over badp and I'm like "woah man tmi"

@ArdaXi No, it doesn't compute.

you're ruining my Zen thing

11:41 PM
The two do not equal, in any case.

It's undefined.
Nasal demons.

hmm.... nothing out of the nothing set... no segmentation fault.

Just as undefined as dividing by zero, if you were right.
Hence, they're equally undefined.

u r

11:42 PM
@ArdaXi Both still undefined.

@ArdaXi that hurts. ;)

I wasn't aware variable names allowed spaces in them

We can still conclude that

@ArdaXi ...is undefined.

Does not equal my rep divided by yours.
That it's undefined does not mean you can't do math with it.

11:43 PM
@ArdaXi Yeah, one site wouldn't be enough.

@ArdaXi we can't be sure....

We'd have to look at them all.
9986/22k makes...
0.45? More or less?

Look guys, I have a banana, and that's really all there is to say about this.
3

Applying the rules for significance, exactly 0.45
Which isn't
As such, I am correct, you are wrong, good night.

@ArdaXi For all we know, it's pretty close.
I wanted to recalculate my rep, but it wouldn't lose or gain me any.

11:45 PM
@Mana banana phone!

argh
I got into Android development thinking "YAY JAVA"
what's all this XML crap doing here
well aside from making life like at least a thousand times easier.

@Mana ..."YAY JAVA"?

@badp Remember those old days when programming was cool and you had fun learning/relearning new languages?
Right well I'm still living them.

more like... JAVA RIPOFF ;)
@Mana yesterday, I learned python.

@Mana Some langs are more fun than others.
I must check out Ruby for real one day or the other.

11:51 PM
@alex by the way, out of curiosity, what are you looking for from that Math.se question?

Although I don't really like begin/end stuff.

@alex like...do you want to know where your proof is wrong? Or do you want help making your proof into a normal proof format?

@Mana the more I work with it, the less idea i have...

:(
It's fine, just blame badp and everything is alright.

@alexanderpas Start rewrite it :9

11:54 PM
@badp tips, hints?

@alexanderpas I see you like working with bits.
Maybe try and formalize them as an array of booleans.

@badp dude let's make a programming language together

so you would shift [b0, b1, b2, b3] and have [0, b0, b1, b2] (but can you lose b3?)
@Mana duuude, it's like overkill maaaaaaaaan.

@badp but then all the other bros can look at it and say "chill"
and then all these bros will be programmers

@Mana LOLCODE?

11:57 PM
and stackoverflow would have like thousands of stoned people writing questions

@badp yes, we can lose b3 thanks to the incoming carry.

@Mana I'm pretty sure they already do.

It would be brilliant.

@alexanderpas Okay -- formalize that :)

@badp Oh.
Hey @Percy.

11:58 PM
@badp easier said than done...

@alexanderpas I know. Doing it might give you more respect from Math fellows.
Welcome to StackExchange and its chat, @PercyPembroke.
