sorry clip link on the chain
I couldn't take any good pictures but luckily it only broke the water pump

12:54 PM
Woohoo! Today's the day!!

1:47 PM
I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. My family for supporting me all these years. @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 and @DucatiKiller for being true sportsmen and letting me win.

@JoErNanO - Wouldn't have it any other way.

@Myself that's hilarious!
@JoErNanO how could you forget your funders from Kickstarter? #betrayal

2:06 PM
@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop - hey Larry
@Myself - I've seen this before (or it done before, lol)

You get your basement dried out yet?

Well the standing water is gone, but dry no, and now dealing with mold :(
That crap grows quick...lol

Yup. I can imagine.
Scary fast.

2:54 PM
@Zaid What kickstarter? I am a self-made man.

@JoErNanO - You're a self made ... something ... ;-) J/K!

3:12 PM
@JoErNanO your welcome.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 That's it! I'm gonna retract my vote now. Where's that election page again? :P

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop kitty litter crystals for the win

@Zaid For winning what? The elections?
I'd love to have a mod called kitty litter.

So I'm "building" my own workbench tonight. Using a slate of solid wood and two trestles. For my dark underground garage.

3:23 PM
Workbenches are good. You can put stuff on them.
3

@JoErNanO - I read at first: "Using a slate of solid wood and two testicles ..."

@DucatiKiller Yes. And see if that stuff you put on them is straight. :)
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Mine are quite sturdy. They could easily hold a workbench up.
Easily.

@JoErNanO <considers changing name>...lol

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop Weirdly enough you were the one I was thinking about.

How about that?
well maybe not
@JoErNanO okay how about that
You might have to reload the page.

3:38 PM
Hey Larry did you check out the post over on Meta?

Q: Let's Plan The Second Iteration Of The Stack Exchange Quality Project!

Tim PostIn case you missed the first one, check out the se-quality-project tag. The quality project isn't one that we plan to ever finish, it's perennial and kicks in every 18 months or so after we've had ample opportunity to observe the efficacy of our previous efforts, changes in how people use our sit...

You can make your "Move more comments" request there

@Zaid I like some the new user stuff too.

Yeah. Crowdsourcing ideas to the users is a stroke of brilliance

@Zaid absolutely and you get user buy in.

3:46 PM
@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop Awesome!

@JoErNanO I imagine that's what my cat would do if I filled my basement with cat litter as @Zaid suggested.

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop Cat heaven.
Why is battery-powered LED lighting so expensive?
50EUR for a 20W lamp holding 4h of charge O_O

@JoErNanO This is closer to cat heaven I believe
if nothing else it's a good laugh
@JoErNanO Expensive to make bright ones I guess. Although branding has a lot to do with the cost

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop On amazon I find plenty which are chinese-made. No famous brands.
The real issue here is the 4h of light. That'll mean I'll need to get 2 for those long days in the garage.
100EUR for rechargeable LED lighting.
I'm gonna start considering getting the LED lamps and wiring them myself to a car battery. At least if I burn alive I'll have enough lighting. :)

@JoErNanO Oh I miss understood what you wanted. What are you looking for specifically?

Q: Smart and effective ways to light up a garage without relying on power outlets?

JoErNanOI am currently renting an garage in an underground parking lot. The garage has no light inside nor electric plugs. The only form of illumination available comes from the few neon lights in the corridor/driveway of the underground parking lot. What I did so far was to install a motion-activated, ...

I am this guy.
I need to light up my underground garage.
So I thought: rechargeable LED lights.
Amazon gives me this: amazon.fr/…
Or similar prices.
@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop ^

@JoErNanO A lot of that expense is in the battery. A lot of them are lithium Ion now. Would you be willing to lug a battery down there to hook the lights to?

@MoveMoreCommentsLinkToTop Yes. Especially now that I have a brand new dead motorcycle battery to use.
Also, do I trust chinese LiPo's? :)
But that's a different story

@JoErNanO You could get something like this
that's $33 US for two lights.
you just need to have a battery to plug them into, but a motorcycle battery isn't going to make them last long.
just curious why is a generator a no no?
Parking garages are designed to have vehicles running in them and are equipped with proper ventilation.

4:58 PM
@DucatiKiller - Hey buddy.

Dang. My terribly funny post never made it to the chat. Something must have glitched. Too bad. It was super funny, you guys!

@BobCross We expect nothing less
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2. Howdy

Today's real life work stress: saying no to a pile of unfunded, unbounded extra work on top of everything else and not changing my mind out of self-inflicted guilt.
Being crazy can be a burden.

5:15 PM
@BobCross I can empathize

5:28 PM
@JPhi1618 I'm sure you've seen this.

5:47 PM
@DucatiKiller, yup, was searching this morning just waiting for the first article.
I have all my paperwork submitted ( I hope ), so now I'm just waiting on further instructions.
They originally said that November 1st would be when buybacks start, but not sure if that's still the case.

6:06 PM
Just some question: Is it that just me or does the following happens also in other places/cultures?
When getting home from work I prefer to stay alone for some time to relax while the wife desires to stay real close to me and tell me the newest chitchat?

@Myself this is a real thing everywhere. After a lot of years of marriage, I finally decided that my job is to find something that's decompression for me (including video games turned way down) and to make grunts every now and then that feign listening. "Hm. Really? That does sound frustrating. Hm. Wow."

6:22 PM
It turns out that sometimes that's sufficient. ;-)

@BobCross Ok, thank you

@Myself - Happens everywhere, Brother. You need to work something out with the wife to ensure while you get some decompress time, she gets some adult time. I'd bet she's alone at home with the baby? If so, she just wants to have that adult interaction after dealing with children and chores (or what have you) all day long. You need to be cognizant of it and ensure she's getting what she needs as well. That's why it's a team effort. Both give 100%.
If you are up front with her and work something out, she'll be a lot more amicable to ensuring you both are getting what you need.

6:41 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I appreciate your help. Actually she got home from her parents. We already worked something out: I will tell her when I need peace and in exchange she will get benefits later.

@Myself I've said this before, but the more beautiful half is emotionally-driven

@Zaid Got it. TY

@Myself btw I don't think that is going to work

@Zaid What would be your recommendation?

Patience is a virtue
I have no silver bullets for you. Or for myself, come to think of it.

7:02 PM
@Zaid I think I will have food for thought now TY

@Myself you're welcome. I need to eat now

@Zaid bon appetite, sorry I was semi absent

8:05 PM
@Myself sounds like you get a win win out of the deal ;-)

8:31 PM
@JPhi1618 Interested in the resolution path as you go down through it with VW

8:50 PM
@DucatiKiller, I'll keep you posted. I hope it's quick and painless.
I've had to upload proof of registration and financial consent to talk to the lender on their claims website already. That was pretty smooth.

Hey everybody how is it goin? So I just learned about Dexcool. Who thinks it is ok and who thinks I need to remove it as soon as possible? It's a 2010; various places on the internet seem to suggest GM got their seals sorted by then and that dexcool is less of a problem. I intend to have this vehicle until it wears down to a pile of dust (and then gather the dust up and place it in an urn on a nice little shelf maybe)
Am I going to be saving myself pain in the long run switching it out to regular green antifreeze?

The only hiccup I see is that the car is in my wifes name and mine, so that might mean more opportunity to miss a signature or something somewhere.

@Zshoulders what does the owner's manual call for?

@Zaid Dex. But I'm not interested in the offical GM position on the matter (which is "there is nothing wrong with Dexcool, all of those failures from mid 90's to 2000's are coincidence") I'm interested in what actual people think or have experience with
especially given the large amount of experience floating around this place

9:10 PM
@Zshoulders you'll want the opinion of our resident GM guru @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2
I don't have much background about the cooling system failures you're referring to
Is the question whether Dex eats rubber seals?

@Zaid consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/08/gm_dexcool.html here is a link about dexcool, if you are interested. Essentially, it turns into sludge and eats gaskets. GM supposedly upgraded the gaskets in question so that it isn't a big deal anymore.
But since the GM official position on the matter is silence, I don't know/can't think of how to verify whether or not it is still an issue

@Zshoulders - I have a 2006 Silverado with Dexcool. The truck has 170k miles on it. I'm pretty sure it's never been changed (I've had the truck since 106k miles). I've not had an issue with the stuff in my system.

Wow, congrats to all!

9:25 PM
While this is anecdotal evidence, I'd bet there is a lot more hype to the issue of Dexcool than there is actually an issue. I'm not saying others haven't had issues with it in the past ... I just think things get blown out of proportion. And believe me, I'm not a fan boy of the stuff. If/when I tear my truck down, I'm putting Evans waterless coolant into my system and never changing it again.
After all, you only hear about things when they go bad ... you never hear the success story of the hundreds of thousands of vehicles which never had an issue.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Agreed, I feel most car problems that catch the attention of the media are highly overstated. But I have to balance that with not trusting the offical position the company takes when they have a lot of money tied up in something

@Zshoulders - Except the Ford Pinto ... that whole "Chariot of Fire"' thing was a little bit too much for me ;-)
@Zshoulders - Completely agree.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 and possibly the GM Ignition switch thing. When things start getting fatal there is usually a bit more urgency. compared to the Volkswagen diesel thing or dexcool, in this case

@Zshoulders - Agreed.
A while back when I was taking a law class having to do with business, we talked about why car companies will find issues with the cars, but then weigh what it would cost to litigate v fix the issues, and decide. It all comes down to risk management.

2 hours later…
11:17 PM
Hellooooo

@DavidWinslow - How's it going!

ive been busy with car projects again lately but ive been neglecting the site
i got my caddy 368 torn down

Sweet!
Does the 368 have the same block as the 500ci engine?

yes its the same, newer.. a few more features. mainly smaller bores
same stroke as the 472 and 425

11:35 PM
Haha! I see the FWD bell housing sitting there ... what is the tranny based on? Is it a TH400 done in relief?
There is a lot of space between those bores, that's for sure!

11:48 PM
Haha. My transmission knowledge is shaky but I think the tree is th400 -> th425 -> th325 -> th325-4l
it shares internals with other gm units
i was surprised by how beefy it is for a fwd gear box
now i just need to find a decent shop in the area
how are your projects going?

@DavidWinslow They are ... uh ... projecting, lol.
You see the work I've been doing on my son's Impreza?

no this was my first stop links?
have you guys seen this? autoweek.com/article/products/…

Hold one ... I started a blog on it ... paulster2.com/P2_blog
@DavidWinslow - I haven't seen it. As the article is two years old, I'm wondering how far they are along with it now?
Looks interesting.

cool car. that looks a lot like the engine from my 04 outback. the thing seized at 130k
