Is there a word for "that level of frustration that is not quite sufficient to make you give up" but is still really high?
I've been working on my old landrover and every task blows up into three bigger ones.
There's bound to be a single word for it in German.

@Criggie - I think other than swear words, frustration about covers it. I definitely understand where you're at, though. Been there many times!!

10:16 AM
@BobCross Thanks, it's posted

:) Ontopic question - is a 21/64 inch socket a real thing?
Seems to be about 8.3mm, and a 8mm is too small, can't find an 8.5mm and 9 is way too big.
A 5/16" socket kinda fits but only goes just over the bolt. That's how I got one bolt out to measure.
Its the steering relay on my landrover, so its nigh-impossible to get to with anything but a socket. A ring spanner won't fit. Thoughts?

11:03 AM
@Criggie - I won't say it doesn't exist, but I've never seen one.
That's a pretty small fastener ... I'd just use a 6-point 9mm socket and call it a day.
@Criggie - I might have suggested it's an 11/32" size, but seeing as how it's a Rover, I'd believe it would be metric and not SAE in nature. The 8.5mm is probably what the fastener size is in actuality.

@RoryAlsop - I was just looking at your Video.SE profile ... you used Maya back in the day? I have people using Maya right now. Long story, but it makes some awesome stuff. Some of our users are using other rendering software and I've been able to procure some other software for rendering as well. Plus plugins for AfterEffects. Our guys are going nuts! They love it :-)

2:07 PM
Yes @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 - Alias|Wavefront, Maya, Softimage etc as part of my presales work to sell high end sgi kit. I need to dig out one of my old backup tapes for some of my showreel stuff

@RoryAlsop - "Backup tapes" ... I love yah man!
That is if the ferrous oxide coating hasn't completely flaked off yet, lol!
I really need to pull out my SGI box and get it running again. Not because it's an SGI, but because it's a UNIX box and I want to play! :o)

A: Let's Plan The Second Iteration Of The Stack Exchange Quality Project!

Robert HarveyNew users need better awareness of what is expected of them when they ask their first question. This is the single most important thing that needs to happen on the Stack Exchange network, in my opinion. If the new Question Ask page will facilitate that, then I am enthusiastically supportive. H...

I like this guy's thinking ... if SE could implement such a strategy, it would solve the JasonC complaint while still beholding to the nice principle. I wonder if SE can implement something ...

@DucatiKiller - Have you thought about asking to have your "Platinum Badge" idea added in this Meta.SE thread?

Q: Let's Plan The Second Iteration Of The Stack Exchange Quality Project!

Tim PostIn case you missed the first one, check out the se-quality-project tag. The quality project isn't one that we plan to ever finish, it's perennial and kicks in every 18 months or so after we've had ample opportunity to observe the efficacy of our previous efforts, changes in how people use our sit...

3:35 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I wouldn't assume that! Land Rovers have been made since the fifties, when everything was imperial, and a lot of bits never got changed - if you're working on one you generally need both sets of tools, sometimes both on the same component!

3:51 PM
@NickC - Wow! I hadn't considered that! Very interesting ... yet still, I've never seen 21/64" socket ... I may have seen an ignition wrench in that size (I have mine in a tool box somewhere ... haven't need them in forever). I still think it's probably an 8.5mm fastener, as I'm pretty sure I've seen that size around.

Q: Hit by a bus - can I use a dent puller to fix this?

ZaidIt turns out that two vehicles shouldn't occupy the same space at the same time :( Thankfully the damage is superficial. As the local dealership is notorious for its long body shop waiting list, I was wondering if it is worth addressing the dents in the rear quarter panel. Could the dents (e...

@DucatiKiller need your dent-pulling expertise
@JonathanMusso ^ need your expert opinion here

@Zaid - See my comment.
@Zaid - I'm very curious about the hot glue gun approach as well.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 yes, I'll work those details into my question but the question is really a "Can it be done?" vs "Can I do it?"
Yes, you have a mother-in-law to appease :)

Yes, please clarify that as well in your question.
HAHA! And you hvae a very good memory, sir!
I still haven't done anything with it and am still being lazy about it. I don't know what she wants to do. I think it's too late to get insurance involved. The body shop said it would cost a little over $900 to fix. Guess I should start saving my duckies.

I can empathize, although it's my car my dad isn't happy about the damage either

Getting that level of performance at around $1k is a pretty good deal.

6:09 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I'm slightly bemused by the "supports up to x hp" advertising

It's curious to see hp put as a limit. HP should be limited by hardware, not software
I guess my point could be conveyed with an example

It's not the software which does it, but the injector limits, I'd bet.

Exactly
So if you swap in a bigger injector, why would the EFI system care?
(provided the rest of the supporting mods are up to par as well)

It wouldn't ... but I bet the injectors are probably set in here to save $$ possibly?

6:14 PM
Oh, if it comes with injectors then that's a different matter

Also, the CFM flow may make for the limit as well ... conjecture though.

Yes, that too, but what's stopping a hotrodder from slapping on forced induction?

Unless the MAF is baked into the product
If it is then yes, I tend to agree

I don't know where the limiting factors may be (in this case) ... I was just looking at the performance advertised as compared to the cost ... very nice price point.

6:30 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 holley.com/products/fuel_systems/fuel_injection/sniper_efi/… I don't see any injectors built in

@Zaid - Not sure I follow? It has injectors ... question I'd have is "can you remove/replace them" ... built-in means to me you couldn't.

Where are the injectors? I don't see them in the kit

Inside the body of the EFI system

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I think I get how this whole deal works now
There's a MAP sensor inside

I'd think so.

6:43 PM
And it's relying on a fuelling map to determine how much fuel to squirt based on air flow and RPM

I understood it to be fairly self contained.

What I'm trying to figure out is how it "learns"

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I have a sun sparcstation 5 sitting doing nothing... with 17" trinitron too. its ancient.

Oh, and the Sniper can't be used for FI applications

@Criggie - NOICE!
@Zaid - Why's that?
You're saying cannot be used to replace a current efi system?

6:45 PM
It says so here
No no, FI = forced induction
So @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 it does use an O2 sensor for feedback

@Zaid - Okay ... no worries. I am actually taking a serious look at this to put on the Camaro I have coming, which is fuel injected already ... so was thrown a bit aback by it not being able to accept something like this ... thanks for the clarification.

I just linked to a PDF
Should be a fairly clean install
Although why they insist on a direct connection to the battery is a bit perplexing

I thought in the video they were just saying a switched power source and a good ground.

See the PDF

conflicting stories.

6:53 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Tried that - its just too sloppy. The area is hard to get to, the bolts are weird shouldered things and finding replacements if I damage one, that will be hard. I will take the one free bolt into an engineering tool shop rather than the local car parts shop, to look for a match.

7:26 PM
@Zaid - Are we going to get the video interface?

7:55 PM
@Zaid glad you are alright. "hit by a bus" caused me unpleasant associations.

8:05 PM
To your dent problem: had a similar problem once and talked to a friend who worked in a body shop. Appearantly the big dent on the edge will be a bigger problem, because the folds (?) strengthen the dent. He recommended me to use a tool like a flat chisel (the ends a bit rounded) from the inside (apply directly at the line of the former edge) to push the sheet metal back into position, the sheet metal is supposed to snap back into the original position.
Unfortunately I have lost contact with the guy and cannot ask him about your case. Also the mentioned practice was never practiced by me so I can just talk about the theory

Being hit by a bus is an unpleasant sensation.
Same goes for any road vehicle, or inanimate object, or the road itself.
Squishy meatsacks are worst, because they make a lot of noise especially when its their fault.

@Myself a cold chisel or bolstering chisel might be good - not sharp at all, but strong enough to take some hammer taps/persuasion

@Criggie That's what I meant, ty. Jargon is a weak point for me
You resolved your 8.5mm bolt isuee?
*issue

8:28 PM
nope - its going to be a while. I don't want to damage the bolt heads - replacing them is likely to be hard. Stupid English fasteners.
The vehicle was build 7 years after metricifcation here, but still has a MPH speedo/odo.
most of the bolts are imperial, some are metric, and these whack-arse steering relay ones are probably bonkers-whitworth

Oh joy, oh joy

@Myself I'm fine, thanks. There was barely any contact, relatively speaking
But damage is damage, no matter how you slice it
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 not following you. Are you taking about the Sniper?
@Myself that wheel arch is the toughest thing to get right in my opinion. I don't know how much of it will pop out. Some of the creases look bad. As for your request regarding a picture of the wheel liner I'll see what I can do tomorrow morning

8:49 PM
@Zaid I think you should figure out how much better you want it - I'd work to push out the dents as much as possible, then seal the paint damage and call it good enough. But if you want it perfect then you'll need a panel beater, or a complete replacement panel, and then a respray.
Its disappointing to have war wounds on your pride and joy, but its also distinctive, like a tattoo or scar.
sealing the scratches is totally a good idea, else you'll have rust lines visible on the white paint in a few months.

Gotta go, bed is calling. Good night

@Myself catch you later

9:05 PM
@Zaid - Referring to your answer posted under the Let's Plan The Second Iteration Of The Stack Exchange Quality Project!

Oh, not sure about that

Seems like it would be an easy thing to make happen. Maybe tomorrow when they announce yiu as a mod, you can talk to @Shog9 about it and get us rolling.
