I don't mean to respond like internet explorer but Hurry , we graduated :-)
I have been trying out something different in my career so not able to spend as much time here as i would like to , Sad that I am little late to the party, Good Job Everyone!!

@Zaid Ha Ha Ha .. Pretty much :-p
so when are we getting
our design?

They're going to contact us

Oh.. So we get to vote on the design ?

Yes, we get to give them input

Cooool..

Currently, the leading candidate for site design is a big banner across the page saying "All hail, Emperor Bob!" It's very embarrassing.

Fixed

@Zaid if I had such a hammer in real life, I would bring it to work and use it at meetings. :-)

@Zaid ROFL

@BobCross if you wear a wig and robe and listen to prosecutors arguing throughout the day they would be obliged to provide you one :)

Howdy all

@DucatiKiller howdy

@Zaid I think I'm going to go on an answered question binge in the next couple of days.

You sound like a man with a plan

I'm prepping right now :-)

I'm just finishing up an update on andrewb's BMW 330
Did you land your job offer?

7:15 PM
I have my last meeting today in a few hours. It seems locked down. I'm meeting some of the guys.

Cool

I need to answer a question tagged with engine, silver badge for engine. :-)

There are plenty of them :)

Indeed

@DucatiKiller remember, don't ask about Pantsless Fridays at the first meet-and-greet. Just a pro tip.

Engine Silver Badge. Nice.....Now only 34 more votes FTW with MC Gold.

@andrewb updated my answer. I think you need new O2 sensors. — Zaid 15 secs ago
whew

@Zaid That's a next level answer. I wish I could upvote it again. :-(

@DucatiKiller no worries... I'm not expecting more from that answer
Just closing the loop

Sure, but it should have stood out on votes. It's very comprehensive and obviously took some thoughtful time to create/edit/update. Needs a min of 10+ IMO.
@everyone - This response deserves love.

Q: What is the "gentlemen's-agreement" on the 600cc motorcycles

com2ghzToday I was reading the news on a Dutch motor-forum and it was about the new Yamaha R6 2017. But the article says that there is no further development in the engine because there would be a "gentlemen's-agreement". Well I know about the gentlemen's-agreement on the 299km/h limit. What is the ge...

What's up with this question?
Is it in scope?

That's an odd one. IDK really. I suppose with literal interpretation for the site it would be out of scope but if we look at other questions in the site it would get a pass.
I think an answer would be an opinion. I couldn't find any sources to back up the article that is being cited.
What do you think?

It's unfamiliar territory... I don't want to pass a judgment on it

It seems a better fit for Skeptics
right?
@Zaid Your very close to MC bronze.

@DucatiKiller not sure. It's more of a motorcycle trivia question, no?

That's a good way of describing it.
It's as if the question were, "can you confirm an 'official' rumor?"

7:50 PM
yes
This was an interesting question

Q: ELM 327 How i can know a calculated CO CO2 HC & NOx with ELM OBDII? Is it possible?

Rafael Angel Monzon PingarronI have a question, if i have many codes from my ELM 327 OBDII, Mass sensor, Km traveled, Lambda, Temp, fuel pressure, gallons x time, engine load.... hao i can calculated these emissions?

The graph is awesome

Let me jam a picture of a gas analyzer in there as well

Yeah....good idea.

This one takes the cheese

@Zaid I used to have a really cheep EGA but it was stolen from my garage a few years ago. Never replaced it but there are multiple times a year that I wish I still had it.

@DucatiKiller - I'm 21 away from a silver in

Hi all
My workshop is giving me a hard time deciding if it is worth changing the clutch while the gearbox is down

@Myself Change it. The tranny is off, it's the right time. Save on labor. Clutch discs are like brake pads. Consumable.
Just my opinion of course
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Your on the edge. I'll give you a nudge. :-)
I think I over answered this question but there are so many paths.

A: 2005 Corolla paint or coating peeling off

@DucatiKiller the problem is that the shop charges so much on the material that at the same price I could buy the set online and pay a mechanic to install it

@Myself Well, that's a different story then. If I take a transmission off, I usually just swap out the clutch plate just cuz. Tranny removal is not one of my favorite things.
IMO clutch plates are cheap. I feel you on the labor though.

There is also the dual mass flywheel
The shop asks €1200 for the material alone (clutch+flywheel). I could get it for about€600
For obvious reasons the shop will not accept that

9:07 PM
There you have it then.

@Myself I wrote an answer about that once ...

So my plan is to leave the clutch and flywheel in place

I've worked in shops where people bringing their own parts is forbidden. It's pretty common. The shop doesn't make much of the resources (mechanics) but makes up for it in parts revenue.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I do not see it yet

@Myself I think @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 is saying he wrote an answer to another question that was similar.
@Myself I'm digging for it right now......
@Myself but @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 has so many answers it's like looking for a grain of sand in a pile of grains of sand.

9:12 PM
@Myself - Sorry. @DucatiKiller is correct. Previous answer. I'll try to dig it up.

@DucatiKiller @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 ok, got it
I was trying to look before asking, however to no avail

And what @DucatiKiller said is right ... even for me it's like finding a grain of sand at the beach. I never thought I'd say I'd answered too many questions ... but GEESH!

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I don't think you've answered too many questions, you've just answered a whole bunch of questions. :-)

@DucatiKiller - Yes. Concur. A bunch too many ;-)

hold on....is that concurring? lol

A: Is it typical for a shop to charge extra for labor if you bring your own parts?

Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2This is not normal behavior of a typical mechanic. Most mechanics/shops will still continue to charge their normal hourly rate no matter if you bring in the parts or if they get you the parts. The only difference is, they will not warrant the parts you bring in. You may want to look at the fine ...

@Myself - I don't know if this is typical in Italy, though ... or southern Bavaria ... where every the heck you live :P

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 We try to take the worst of every part :)

Anyway ... I'm going out to work on the Civic ... hoping to get the rack in this evening.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 have fun

I did make one mistake in doing the work ... I didn't center the steering wheel. I'm worried about ruining the clock spring for the air bag.
@Myself - TY sir.

OK, I'm focused. Hopefully I can answer a few more MC questions FTW.

I was wondering ... instead of what we have for closing a question "as unclear what you're asking" ... can we change that to ... "closed because I don't have an F-ing clue what you're talking about"?

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I'll upvote that option. LOL

:-)
I'm procrastinating right now.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I would like a close option of "OP is not responding to questions necessary to solving the issue."

I'd upvote that as well.

@DucatiKiller Same here

10:16 PM
Probably a lot nicer than the way I'd go.

Maybe there's a meta post brewing in this convo.

Go for it.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 may I bother you?

For a minute or two ... but yes, please.

What do you think of the look of my clutch? (See questions)

10:18 PM
can you link it for me?

Q: Judging self adjusting clutch reserve

MyselfI was told that the position of the protruding adjustment springs (indicated in red on the picture) can indicate the thickness of the remaining clutch lining. Is that true and can somebody estimate the remaining clutch lining based on this pictures? As a layman I am tempted to think that the posi...

nvm
@Myself - I guess if a mechanic were intimately familiar with a certain clutch setup, you might be able to judge the thickness of the friction disk ... but I couldn't tell you one way or the other. I don't think it would be a "good" indicator, but that's just my opinion.

My apologies for bothering you, it is just that tomorrow I will walk into the store and tell somebody if I will spend some additional €1200 or not

If you have an alignment dowel, the better option is to just remove the pressure plate and check the clutch. Checking the thickness of the disk is only part of the equation ... what about the surface of the pressure plate and the flywheel.

But yes, I understand that this is not a perfect way to tell the thickness

10:23 PM
@Myself - No apologies, brother. That's what I'm here for is to help.
This must be a dual mass flywheel?

Yes

When I was asking him about the remaining "capacity" of the clutch/flywheel he was winding himself out of an answer
But I guess he either wanted to avoid a wrong answer or he wanted to sell me something I will need in 3 years

@Myself - If he has the tranny out of it, what more is it going to cost to get him to pull the clutch out and check the parts? It sounds like a lazy man's way of getting more money out of you. If I were wrenching on it, I'd have no issue pulling it off and giving you an honest assessment for what I already have in the deal.
Okay, time to go back to work, I guess ... the R&P is giving me fits.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 thank you

10:38 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 When you said, "this must be dual mass flywheel." How did you determine that? My ignorance stands before you.
@Myself Is it possible that you could ask them to remove the pressure plate and measure the thickness of the clutch to see if you have lots of room left?
@Myself Then you could judge the situation based upon data to make your decision rather than getting caught in the speculation trap.

@DucatiKiller I guess that would be the right way to do it

It's only a few bolts on the perimeter. I watched them disassemble one on youtube.
From how far torn down your car is at the moment it seems that having a look at the clutch would be pretty simple and not time consuming at all.

@DucatiKiller Ok, I know what to do.

@DucatiKiller Btw: Thank you

10:52 PM
No problem. I wouldn't worry about bothering anyone in here. Everyone is sooo laid back for the most part AND it's why we're here.
Just like you I would imagine. Your here in SE cuz you get rewarded for helping others. :-) Cheers, hope this works out. The cost delta you stated is pretty big.

I would sign those two statements you made

11:10 PM
@DucatiKiller that's a great avatar you have here :)

LOL....Yeah, I like how clean everything is. I can imagine these guys putting together a fresh motor and destroying it right when they started it. Learning can be brutal.

@DucatiKiller - I was basing it off the price first, then looked at the thickness of the flywheel ... much more expensive and much more expansive than a typical single mass, I'd suggest.
@Myself - It would be worth it to have him take it apart, even if it cost you another 1/2 hour labor charge, IMHO.
Also, have I told you guys how much I hate connecting hydraulic lines?? This Honda ... WHAT A PITB!!

That's what I intend. If they try to avoid it then I will leave everything in place and wait until the clutch is consumed
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Are the hydraulic lines on Hondas so special?

11:30 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I was wondering if there is a different appearance of a dual and single flywheel. Again...ignorance stands before you.

@Myself - Not really ... just hard to maneuver. Honda didn't give a mechanic any room to get their hands in there to get the lines reattached. Great fun.
@DucatiKiller - I'd say a Dual Mass is about twice the thickness of a regular flywheel. It has to house the moving parts, so is thicker, is my guess.

I'm going to see if there is a QA about dual mass flywheels....I need to know more. I've never investigated.

Now I get to try and find a wrench I have no clue where it went ... I hate disappearing wrenches!
@DucatiKiller - I really don't know that much about them. I think they are a mechanical nightmare, myself. I prefer simple for the most part. But, things change.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I hear ya. I feel the same about most design.
There is not a question explaining the differences between the two.
So I would ask between a duel mass flywheel and a standard flywheel?

I guess that would be a great question
I also miss SAC-type clutches

11:41 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 OK, here she is.

Q: What are the differences between a dual mass flywheel and a standard flywheel?

DucatiKillerRecently in chat, a discussion arose about a dual mass flywheel. I am blissfully ignorant regarding how a dual mass flywheel actually functions and what the delta is between a dual mass flywheel and a standard flywheel. I understand the basics of a flywheel and why you want one on your vehicle ...

@Myself SAC type clutches? That sounds like another question for me. What is this thing you talk about. SAC type clutches. Are they made of cotton? Can I take my groceries home in one?

Self Adjusting Clutch
I will make a question about it
However, not yet. It is bedtime for me :)

@Myself Take care, good luck tomorrow
I'm on an MC roll
