Q: What is the "gentlemen's-agreement" on the 600cc motorcycles

com2ghzToday I was reading the news in a Dutch motor-forum and it was about the new Yamaha R6 2017. The article says that there is no further development in the engine because there is a "gentlemen's-agreement". Well I know about the gentlemen's-agreement on the 299km/h limit. What is the gentlemen's-...

Finally have some time to answer questions the way I like to.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 This 'not working' thing. It's awesome.

@DucatiKiller - Haha. Yah, threw in the towel for the night. I think I might have cross threaded one of the lines, so before I go further on it, I wanted to make sure I had a fresh pair of hands and eyes.
When do you start work?

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 You have good tap and die set? Just in case
I'm going to Vegas tomorrow with the CEO. Road trip. We decided it would be good talk for hours and hours to get both of our expectations straight. We just talked.

I am NOT taking the stupid rack back out considering what a BIOTCH it is to get it in there. I will get the line in. I didn't start tightening it yet, so there shouldn't be any damage
Sweet brother. That sounds like a nice road trip ... trying not to piss off the CEO of your new company ... haha

right on. I like to hear that. I would imagine a true jammed up cross thread would <insert crappy thing here>.

12:21 AM
Especially while being a captive audience, lol.

Good advice LOL

@DucatiKiller - Exactly.
@DucatiKiller - I've rode this rodeo before ... It just takes a lot of patience and the right touch. Took me about an hour to get the soft return line in because it just wasn't wanting to play. The hard line will be easier in some respects, harder in others.

I think we'll find quorum on the trip. I'm excited. It's new and different and I will learn a ton about manufacturing. He's watched me run engineers for 20 years and knows a bunch of my old crew. He get's frustrated with his team but that's his problem. He has a great crew, they just need love, boundaries and a framework to live by.

I tell you one thing, I don't think I could teach someone how to properly put lines back in place. It is almost an art form ... one which I'm not sure I've mastered yet, but am pretty darn close.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I've done that a few times and can honestly say, it's frustrating.
Agreed, it's prior experience. You need to do it to know how to do it. It's one of those weird things.

12:24 AM
@DucatiKiller Yes it is. A good set of line wrenches doesn't hurt anything either ;-)

Tru dat homey

Too bad mine are SAE and I needed Metric.

urgh....I hate not having the proper one.

I'd have already have this PITB done if I'd had some ... hehe ... I smell a Christmas present ... heh

I just bought a set of craftsman SAE just because. I just had a scrapped together set of SAE sockets and wrenches cuz....I don't work on Harley's but.....kid's got a ford, dad's got a GM so......I should have em
Yes, Christmas sale at Sears.......get that metric!

12:27 AM
Oh, won't be me buying! :-) Mo-n-Law loves to get me tools for Christmas ... I've never complained, lol!

You go Mother n Law! Gotta love her for that. Just gotta.....

I need to get cleaned up. Long day tomorrow. Long, long day tomorrow. I have class tomorrow night after work, so ... argh.
After the dent I put in her car, I don't know if I can expect much this year, though ;-)

Take care bro. Catchya Thursday. Don't think I'll be here tomorrow. I hope all my answers yield me mass rep tomorrow while I 'negotiate'..... :-)

Have a great evening and a safe trip. I hope you and the new boss get things worked out and see eye-2-eye on most everything.
You should have already seen a few casualties of the uptick.

Thanks man. Dominate your world tomorrow! Laters

Should I listen to my owner's manual for oil (0w-20) or go with what fansites say to go with (anywhere up to 5w-40)?
I understand the owner's manual will be best for fuel efficiency, but I'm hearing a lot of things about spirited driving/tracking the car and higher viscosity. I've always used manufacturer's recommendation, but I'm curious why people say to use higher viscosity.
...And that sounds like a question worthy of being posted.

Q: Effects of higher oil viscosity

akadianAfter reading "Can viscosity affect gas mileage?", it appears that it can affect gas mileage. However, what would be the consequences of going from the manufacturer's recommended 0w-20 to the 5w-40 that fansites often say is "better for tracking" on my car? Will it affect the wear on my engine? ...

6:46 PM
@akadian is the 0-w20 the only possible oil viscosity or are there multiple possibilities (with 0-w20 preferred) in your manual?
my personal opinion: when 0-20 is only one of more possibilities then go with the one where the "hot" number (<cold>-W<hot>) is as large as possible.

5w-40 is not recommended by the manufacturer. Subaru I believe has different recommendations, but I do not have that manual. I think I read up to 0w-30 on ft86club. I just read a lot of "go 5w-40" on that forum.

Does the manufacturer explicitly advise against XW40 or does he not mention it?

@DucatiKiller, that HNQ page tho! Good flywheel question. Can't believe it wasn't here already.

Perhaps you can download the manual from the homepage of the manufacturer?

7:17 PM
@JPhi1618 yeah. Totally agree. Thought it would have been in here already. Hopefully the Rep train will pay higher dividends. Good to see ya.

8:08 PM
@Myself Not mentioned.

@akadian I personally would risk (yes, there is a risk) it with XW40. 0W20 is rather thin for my liking. Please note however that this is a highly controversial issue and I have no proof/data/statistics to give any hint of compatibility

8:43 PM
Should I actually feel a difference while driving it?

I honestly do not know it, my gut tells me you wont feel a difference
The biggest differences would be the wear on your engine and the gas mileage

Hey all ... not going to be here long. I'm just dead on it ... on my butt. I have no clue why, but I'm completely drained today.

10:33 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 flu shot man - it knocks you back. My arm is sore and I'm annoyed at Earth

Do some pushups.
That'll make it hurt like the devil today, but tomorrow you'll be right as rain.
@BobCross - I wish I could blame a flu shot.
