@cdunn ... Sometimes I leave questions for others to answer, then forget they are there. Just went back through and found that question ... uh ... wondering why it was never answered because it seemed like such low hanging fruit.
@ZachMierzejewski - Not that I'm against the creation of unleaded-e10, but am wondering if it could be a better tag, maybe putting e10 first? Or eliminating "unleaded" altogether out of it?
Almost all fuel today is "unleaded" ... I doubt you're going to find it any other way in the States very easily.
I'm not saying we "have to" change it, just wondering your thoughts on it. And yah, I know E15 is coming into vogue (for very stupid reasons).
Especially since the cost of crude is so low it almost doesn't make sense to try and spare it anymore. At least not now. And with how ethanol actually treats the environment.
E15 is different from E10/E85 ... I'm sure we'll be getting questions on them sometime in the future.
Yeah, I could see how the tag is slightly annoying because it is a given that it is unleaded. But, does it hurt searchability to have the unleaded prefix? Doe it hurt people's understanding of the tag at a glance?
Corn subsidies!
That's why they still use more ethanol. Millions of dollars of investment.
@ZachMierzejewski - Probably not in the long run. If someone puts in E10, it'll still pop.
@ZachMierzejewski - You mean "Millions of dollars of wasted money" ... right?
;-)
I will say, I like the idea of ethanol as a replacement for the old stuff which they used to put in fuel to provide oxygenation. What was it called, MTLB? or something like that?
Hahaha, yes. My old college had an ethanol research lab. "Millions of dollars of wasted money" describes it quite well. It was a very nice looking building from the outside... but it was the only building in the middle of a corn field!
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Will you review my latest edit on this question. I tried to specify the engine better. There is no such thing as an "Earnhardt ZZZ" that I could find.
I'm very bad at finding background info on crate engines.
Not a big deal. Guess we learn something new every day.
I don't know what to tell the guy though ... really it isn't the metal the spark plug is made up of which makes the plug hot or cold, but how it's designed with the amount of porcelain at the electrode.
And aluminum is going to be able to handle it just as well as cast iron would be able to.
@ZachMierzejewski - Could how you reworded the question for the spark plugs be construed as a shopping question now? It almost seems as such.
Also, please remember the tags when you do the edits.
This engine uses wet cylinders that btw I will change. The other thing is that the block has 2 missing bolts: one was broken right there almost in the surface, the other is the hole with bad threads. I managed to extract the first one by arc welding another bolt I previously sharpened its tip like a pencil. For the second I will need to get an oversize bolt. I guess missing bolts also made the gasket leak whenever it liked :) sometimes yes, sometimes not, depending on water pressure affected by overheat...or sort of hehehe — Aram Alvarez15 hours ago
What does he mean by "wet cylinders"? Does he mean he needs to add some oil to the fuel to help keep it lubricated?
@Zaid - I'm pretty sure that's what he means by "wet" ... some of the weird European cars had air cooled engines, so differentiating them as "wet" may be the way to differentiate it in the OP's mind.
@ZachMierzejewski - I'm not sure what he means by "up-beat" either? That part of the question doesn't make sense to me, lol.
@ZachMierzejewski - Was going to say ... you've done a lot of great clean up lately ... very solid work. Thank you.
You should ask the guy if he's running an HEI distributor ... if so, he should have more fear of the spark coming off of it than he should what the plug is made out of.
I am definitely asking more. I am asking how to fix the "problem" they are experiencing. If you are saying I am guessing too much at their poorly defined "problem", I accept that criticism. You can not-approve the edit.
I mean you can click "don't approve" or whatever. Not that you, yourself, can't approve the edit, haha.
Oh I know I can do that ... I was just going to ask you be cognizant of this, which it seems you are. Asking a few leading questions of the OP may be more appropriate is what I was thinking.
What I'll actually do is stamp your meal car "no desserts" and call it a day (at least that's what we used say when I was in the Army, lol)
This is world according to the old Paul (not Paul the mod): I try to get more information out of the OP by asking leading questions, then if they provide any information, I'll edit the question to make sense as the OP intended it, rather than trying to guess or assuming what they meant. This does two things: 1) doesn't lead everyone down the wrong path; 2) If the OP never answers, the question can be closed under "too broad" or "don't have a clue what you're talking about Willis".
I have also seen where people will leave comments under the questions stating they have done the deed and if there is any issues, to just correct for inaccuracies. Editing the question is not a bad thing at all, especially if it gets an answer quicker.
@SteveRacer ... come to the Pitstop! I have mad Subaru questions for you! Actually, I have some mad Impreza questions for you. Here's your chance to shine, brother!
@ZachMierzejewski - Guess where I'm headed tomorrow night?
That's easy for me to get to. Yeah, that'd be cool. Let me know when you find out which day it is. I don't have anything scheduled either evening. (That sounded lame, but all of my plans are fluid so I can do them any time.)
Actually, it's easy ... let me know which is good for you. I'm open either night. So is my friend from out there.
Going to Seamus McD's is just one of those things I do when I go out to STL. I hate eating alone, but I'll go there alone if I have to. It would just be fun to meet yah ... and anyone else who may be in the area, lol.
I can say, they have the best burgers I've ever eaten, hands down.
Well, If you want to meet me dressed as Scar from The Lion King, Tuesday would be better. If you want to meet a normal young guy... you'll have to ask someone else! Ha!
Very kewl, Zach. I look forward to it. If you have a significant other you'd like to bring, the more the merrier.
I would move to STL, but the wife is dead set against it. I could have had jobs there or in Denver going back several years, but again ... SQUISHED by the wife, lol.
All, I'm headed out to get some supper. I'll be back on later.
I bought a 1972 Honda CB750 and the key that came with it is a weird little key. I'm guessing this is the way they were made back then. I would really like to get a copy of the key so I have more than one but no locksmith around here can do anything with it.
One of the locksmiths suggested that ...
The most immediate issue is galling. Stainless steel typically contains a lot of suspended carbides ie very hard particles in a soft matrix. This means that stainless threads are prone to galling and seizing.
This is further exacerbated with aluminium which is a relatively soft metal but with h...
Pretty good answer. NOT as complete as dlu's, but good nonetheless.
@All - I will be headed to St Louis on Sunday night. If anyone (besides Zack ... he's already invited) are in the STL area and would like to get together for dinner on Tuesday night, please let me know and I'll give you the skinny on what we're doing. Just let me know by tomorrow night. I don't know who else might live in that area, but you are welcome to join us.
