@Paulster2 This is the one that I meant - just drove past the spot where I saw the kayak + roof rail remnants this evening. Fortunately, it's been cleared up by now!

@Paulster2 : Resistance is futile.

7:59 AM
@Paulster2 It just occurred to me that welding would be a bad idea given the type of loading the adapter is expected to endure
The welds would be the weakest point
And we don't want Binky to lose steering now, do we?

Q: Engine on BMW G650GS 2011 does not start when it's hot

AlexI have a rather strange problem with my BMW G650GS. In the morning, when the engine is cold, it starts fine with a single crank. There is no problem with riding, the engine works fine and never chokes. Then, if I ride for a while to make the engine hot, stop it, let it stay for about 5 - 10 minut...

^ For whatever reason I missed this question when it was initially posted. Let's hope Alex comes back to see the answer I put up

In other news, looks like amphibient's not going to disassemble and clean up the valve stems

12:37 PM
@Zaid - I'm saddened by amphibient's choice.
@Zaid - If done right, the welds are just as strong if not stronger than the material which was used to create the adapter. The part I would be worried about are the cut threads. If one were to use the correct size nuts on a Grade 8 fastener, the rolled threads in it would be of much greater strength. Cut threads have a tendency to pull out under a great amount of force.

@Paulster2 Remember what I was telling him about scope creep earlier? I just hope it's not going to backfire now

Paulster2 has been automatically appointed as owner of this room. (What does this mean?)

5:03 PM
Hey, @Paulster2 , congrats on the ownership status! You can now add RSS feeds to this chat room!

1 hour later…
6:22 PM
@Zaid - Yah, that and a bag of donuts will get me ... a bag of donuts. I read the What does this mean? ... but I really don't understand what it means I can actually do with the chat differently than I could before.
@Zaid - Okay, so read through my new ominous powers and discovered I can add RSS feeds into the room. I think Larry had done this previously with new questions. I think it clutters up the space (makes it hard to find actually conversations). Did you have a specific feed in mind?

6:57 PM
@Zaid - I remember the scope creep comments. I don't want to sound mean, but it appears to me he is being lazy about doing the rebuild. In the Jafromobile videos, he really strongly states about cleanliness and why it's a good reason to keep everything clean. I really wish our guy would do the same. It really does make sense to keep things clean in this case. If not, nothing but more money is going to be spent getting it fixed after everything is worn out.

@Paulster2 : I can empathize with him. The Beemer was sitting on jackstands for the better part of 7 months for various reasons... it can be quite frustrating to find the time and energy to perform a Proper Job
But that shouldn't be an excuse for sloppy work

@Zaid - While I understand ... exactly.

Lol
@Paulster2 : There's a reason why I waited 7 months, lol

I have a car which has been sitting in my driveway due to lack of energy to actually do the work. Now my son is coming down from Alaska (moving to North Carolina - NC). He wants to buy the car from me. I hope he understands if he does buy it, it will be moving to NC with him. But I digress. I haven't done much work on it just due to lack of energy to work on it (not physical energy, mental energy).

@Paulster2 Tell me about it. I would feel stressed about looking at the thing on a near daily basis
It got to a point where the ladies' friends were asking about what was happening, lol

7:07 PM
Uh, yah

But onto the subject of RSS feeds, it looks like those will actually register as chat messages
At least that's what I saw on one of the Engineering chat rooms today
@Paulster2 : how about the fluid inside the TC? Could that ever leak or vaporize?

 The Skunk Works

To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the...

@Zaid - Only if a weld fails will it leak.

^Like so

If the front tranny seal fails, that's the tranny failing, not the TC
I haven't heard of the fluid vaporizing before but would think it was possible if it gets REALLY hot which I bet the transmission would fail first.

I really am clueless when it comes to TC's. The only reason I know about them is because I've seen it advertised a couple of times on Hot Rod Garage

7:18 PM
Hot Rod Garage ... haha ... I'm watching episodes right now, lol!
I met Finnegan at the 2014 Hot Rod Power Tour.

Funnily enough when you mention things like stator, rotor and vanes, I can understand them. Just never thought that you'd have a turbine as part of the drivetrain
@Paulster2 I kind of wish he was still presenting. Not sure I like the new guy as much, though he does get a little more technical with the walkthroughs

The new guy sucks in comparison.

Lol, can't even remember his name
Freiburger on the other hand is a riot

I wonder if Finnegan's wife got a little bent out of shape at how much time he was spending with Frieburger

I didn't watch the last episode
Let me do that now

7:23 PM
LOL! I'm catching up, actually.
Tony Angelo
That's the new host's name.
He just doesn't have any charisma.

7:43 PM
@Paulster2 : Did you reach the part where Finnegan and Freiburger talk about why they didn't use an intercooler on the Bonneville car?
"Just wasn't enough of a benefit"
Hmmm, that sounds familiar :)

Not yet ... I'm on episode 20 ... I think I have 4 more to go to get caught up.
Roadkill kind of torqued me off a little since they sold out to Chrysler.

I never really followed Roadkill. The only thing I watched there was the Rat Rod vs Lambo episode
I have enough YT subscriptions to keep me going :)

The episode they totally thrashed on the two Hellcats & the Viper was a total bust. I like Roadkill because it is a lot more fun than HRG.

I can imagine
Well, I'll let you get to grips with the Atomic LS7 Van
I'm off to sleep

Yah, they start the engine on 21 ... looking forward to it. Enjoy your snooze. TTYL
