@LordStryker I know you know quantum stuff, could you have a look at the following question?

Q: When is it true that more nodes equals higher energy?

Silvio LevyConsider all the MOs of some isolated molecule. (It could be a single atom too; I'll use MO to refer to AOs as well.) Number them in increasing order of the number of nodes (node = surface where the wave function has zero density). Orbitals with the same number of nodes can be numbered in any ord...

Phew, that meta post took some time to finish...

@tschoppi HEY!
\o
long time no see!

@LordStryker Hi :D

What is up bro?!

Yeah, still busy studying
Exam period starts in a week...

Dude, I have a friend who is interested in doing a post doc around where you're at.

12:53 PM
Cool :)

She'd love to chat with you sometime. Perhaps I could put you into contact with each other?

Uhm, sure. I don't know how much I can be of service to her, but I have no problem with that

Well you're a local! I'm sure you'd be able to help her out a lot.

Q: Should we correct math formatting?

tschoppiAlthough I really like to observe how usage of mathjax in combination with the mhchem extension grows, I still think that there is a fundamental issue not adressed in this community: Should we correct faulty font choices in math mode? Several times have I now seen edits that address one or ano...

Is this the best point of contact or do you have an email I could give her?
[deleted] whoops!
I'm spreadsheeting right now :-\

12:58 PM
Well, permute the i to a j in my nick and add @ethz.ch to it, that should do the trick.

okay man. I will let her know. Her name is Angela (she goes by Angie) by the way.

Aight :D

So how have things been?

Quite busy. Still have to finish analyzing results from simulations and write things up in a neatly formatted report... Also I have to study for the last exams towards a BSc, so things aren't going as smoothly as they could, but I'll pull through :)

I know the feels. I'm in a similar situation.
I'm accepting a post doc today. The job requires me to begin working the day before my PhD defense.
Its going to be... interesting.

1:04 PM
Well, I guess you'll get a tour of the lab (ahem, offices) and chat with the team members. And if your new boss is cool he'll let you off the hook so you can revise your PhD defense strategy ;)

1:24 PM
Acutally I have to teach gen chem the day before my defense
So I can't be let off the hook. :(

Aw damn...

it sucks!!

Well, gotta get back to work

Alright man. Good luck with your exams!

I'll be around, and come around... So I guess I'll see ye 'round :D
Thanks

@Martin I left a comment to that post.

@LordStryker Congratulations! I might have asked that already, where are you going?
@tschoppi Good luck with your exams!
@LordStryker I can tell you from experience, that it is not a bad thing to do something completely unrelated. It clears your mind and takes away some of the strange feelings. Just make sure, that you will get enough sleep.
@LordStryker Thanks very much, very enlightening. I still bet the question will remain unsolved for quite some time. Would you recommend pushing it to physics?

@Martin MSU! :)
@Martin I think a more detailed answer could be left than what I've given. However, it really boils down to the fact that the OP is not making the proper comparisons and therefore cannot apply that 'general trend' of nodes and energies.
@Martin I'm actually having to turn my diss in today. Last minute proofing always turns up a ton of errors :(
