I don't get it, isn't he the one who should apologize for that answer?

Apparently Alchemy (in area51) didn't like my question...
"If there is a finite amount of matter in the universe, how does Olive Garden offer unlimited salad and breadsticks?"

/r/shittyaskscience is that-a-way

3:36 PM
@NicolauSakerNeto XD
Best science ever

I check it every now and then, some amusing questions pop up

Uff, a wall of poorly formatted text
Now I realize that is 10 years old

Indeed.
Certainly explains a lot ( @jonsca ).

I am keeping a close eye on things (I was away for a few hours yesterday, but that was taken care of)

3:49 PM
Well then, it seems I'm happily oblivious of something

If you see stuff that just isn't right (from anyone, really) please flag.

*whew finally done with all undergraduate defenses.

6:10 PM
helloooo o/

@tschoppi !!!
long time no see bro
\o/

@LordStryker Yeah. I was quite inactive in the last couple of weeks...
Since I'm head administrator for the selection rounds in the Swiss Chemistry Olympiads (and the Finale is coming up next week) I am really busy
And you yourself, how are you doing?

Swiss Chemistry Olympiads?? Sounds intense.

@LordStryker Well, it's mostly administrative stuff. But with this I still have to dabble with some basic experimental chemistry, which keeps the child in me in good spirits :)
I see you sparked a discussion concerning the contributions of Uncle Al...
I for one still think that he could word his answers in a much better way. He seems knowledgeable in some fields, but just can't put it into a concise, legible answer

@tschoppi Its really not worth discussion to be honest. I agree though, some of his contributions seem really good but it isn't consistent.
@tschoppi To address your question, my paper to JPCA was recommended for publication. Will be submitting another one to JPCB in a few weeks and then another one to JPCA a few weeks following that.
Momentum is strong right now.

6:26 PM
@LordStryker Awesome!
In half a year I'll have my BSc, then onwards to my MSc. You sound like a guy I'd really like to collaborate with...
You have no plans of seeking a Postdoc position in Switzerland? :)

@tschoppi Ohhhhhh
I'd go ANYwhere for a postdoc. Switzerland? Yes please!
Got any positions for a theoretical chemist with experience in large (impressive) ab initio computations?

6:41 PM
Are you interested in relativistic quantum chemical computations? ^^

@tschoppi sounds scary but I'd consider it.
I've only dealt with non-relativistic stuff :P
I assume this would have to include dealing with transition metals? ehhh
I like H,C,N,O,F (and sometimes P, S)

7:06 PM
I think you won't be able to dodge those bullets xD
If you're interested you can check out the work that the Reiher group does, they're down the hall from my office...

@tschoppi I will definitely check it out man. Thanks for the tip.
@tschoppi (my boss did a postdoc in Zurich)

@LordStryker Ah, sweet! (Except for what I've heard about him from you. But still; cool!)

@tschoppi He actually did his posdoc at ETH...

@LordStryker Haha, cool! The world is quite small, isn't it...

(Laboratorium fur Physikalische Chemie)
oh right duh... his advisor was Martin Quack

7:19 PM
@LordStryker That's where I'm now.

Zurich a nice place to live for a Yank?

@LordStryker Oooooooh. What a poor guy your boss is! Quack is... not the best advisor around here...

he's very smart though

@LordStryker It's an expensive place. But you'll definitely feel the comfortable life standard. Swiss people are said to be quite distant at the beginning (not the case in my group, but in general) but when you've made Swiss friends, they're in it for life ;)

Relativistic quantum chemistry is pretty awesome, even though I can barely grasp it

7:21 PM
@tschoppi Oh dear. I don't even know what its like to have a friend (longer than a couple years). I don't know if I could handle it.

But papers by Pyykkö are great

Dr. Reiher's group looks like they do a lot of research that I could fit into

I've already told you about the superb public transport system. English is a language that virtually everyone is able to communicate in. There is the general "you're from America, therefore you're stupid" assumption among some people, but I guess that's what you'd find anywhere
@LordStryker Go for it! :D

@tschoppi What if I look like I could maybe be partially asian? Do they like asians? lol
(most people can't tell that I'm part asian)

@LordStryker Asians are ubiquitous at the ETH, quite a few PhD's and postdocs here. Absolutely no problem ;)

7:24 PM
Hmmm, you have me seriously interested.
I don't mind leaving the States, but I guess I just never thought I would.

Well, you may start to think about it ;)

I dont see any post-doc positions advertised on his group page.

I've got to leave you now, have a great evening.
@LordStryker It never hurts to ask...

@tschoppi \o nice seeing you again

Ping me for more info :)
