It was supposed to be a joke... :/ Kinda. I dunno. I get confused when I try to explain things to people. Like, it seems obvious or something and then I don't know... like, they don't know things or something but maybe not and then it upsets me :/. — Peter David Carter-Poulsen May 2 at 21:24
^^^ Is everything OK?

Interviewee "forgot the interview was today"... I wonder how many of you would give him a second chance? (consulting position, expected to have many meetings with clients)

Why are you supposed to care if he really, really doesn't?

@NicolasRaoul Unless there's a really good reason for him being distracted (wife giving birth, death in the family, that kind of thing), not a chance in hell.

8:59 AM
@NicolasRaoul Well if he gave me a reasonable answer, I might consider it?
Then again I have seen my old Boss fire someone, because he showed up to work instead of visiting his dieing father.

God, the level of entitlement some users have is staggering.

@Lilienthal how come?

11:44 AM
@RaoulMensink Some of the comments people have been leaving on the "freedom of speech sticker" question are just appalling.

@Lilienthal oh i thought you were referring to the how do I best posion my co worker who steals my food
@Lilienthal but yeah it is really madness :

People thinking you should be free to spout whatever nonsense you'd like and force people to listen to it or read it because "free speech should be inviolate"
Fittingly, they do the same thing in their comments.
@RaoulMensink That's not so entitled but rather insane I think.

in my counry if you Phrase it as "in my opinion you are a asshat" it is ok but "you are a asshat" is not jay

It's fine to say that.
It's not fine to say that to your boss or colleague.
As long as you want to have a job.
And that's something people just don't seem to get.

yup
like that guy the other day where you enderland and other mod were asking to calm down a bit
peqod?

11:48 AM
The other day? You mean 2 months ago? :)

really? xD

Yeah, was around Feb/Mar I think
He was suspended for a while IIRC.
Or banned from chat at least.

yeah ist 11 feb that i got back to
my Manager is on vakantion since monday, and he forgot to give me my work :#

12:29 PM
@Lilienthal what people fail to understand about free speech is that it simply means that the government can not forcibly stop someone from speaking their mind. It does not mean that one be granted a forum. It does not mean that you are free from private consequences. Best case example I heard of was a man was cursed out in the parking lot.... guess who showed up for an interview with that same man?
Actions have consequences, including speech. Speak your mind, but be aware I have the right to think you're an idiot for doing so.

@RichardU isnt that what Lilienthal has stated both here and in the thread?

Q: When changing jobs, do I need to inform where the new job is?

ZaberielI recently accepted a new job offer and handed my resignation to my current employer. However they are very insistent on knowing where I'm going to work. Is this a normal thing? I know that she trash talked me to another potential employer so I don't feel comfortable telling her where I'm going ...

I know this question has been asked in some form before, but I can't seem to find it. Any help?

12:47 PM
if you can't find it, it might be better to Keep this one won't it? @DavidK
how did you do that btw?

@RaoulMensink no

@RichardU care to explain?
@RaoulMensink does this work
mkay thats Genius xD

1:07 PM
@RaoulMensink It's definitely better to link it as a duplicate, because then a wider set of search terms would lead you to the question. The question is whether the original question still exists anymore.

Free Speech doesnt mean consequence free speech
people who act like ridiculous idiots in public have at some point got to face the consequences
No. I'm trying to tell people the truth about things and I will not stop. You added the support tag, not me. — Peter David Carter-Poulsen 22 hours ago
Oh boy

@DavidK true, thought you ment deleting this one, because it is a duplicate or atleast assumed to be.

A conspiracy theorist commited to littering our site with conspiracy theories

good luck to him, we got great mods here :P
anyone know how to flag a inappropriate username?

@Magisch I've noticed users with high reps on other SE sites coming in here and treating it as someplace they can have tantrums. Try that on SO, where that poster has a high rep, and see what happens. They have NO sense of humor about that.

1:15 PM
@RaoulMensink flag one of their posts with a custom flag and explain it

@Magisch does a comment work as wel?

sure
as long as you custom flag and explain it

@RichardU perhaps you shouldnt even try since you are not responsible? Suggest it to a mod, but please don't start a fight at his high rep site.

@RaoulMensink are you trying to start a fight with me or something?

no?
why would i?

1:23 PM
@RaoulMensink I have no idea, but that's how you're coming across.

not my Intention :(
Just felt like you were starting a war based on your last sentence. "They have NO sense of humor about that."

@RaoulMensink If that's the case, I'll assume English is not your first language. "They have no sense of humor about that" is just a figure of speech. It means that they don't tolerate the kind of nonsense he's been pulling in here and that he knows better
@RaoulMensink We don't start or even fight wars around here. That's a good way to get banned.

@RichardU hmm, well it really came across you went to their subsite and started complaining. but yeh English is not my first language.

@RaoulMensink We don't usually delete questions unless they're completely out of line. Instead we close questions so that no new answers can be posted to them, but they are still searchable, and in fact could be reopened if sufficient edits are made.

@RaoulMensink Don't make assumptions about people. I said no such thing, in fact, what I stated was the opposite of what you inferred. I said that I've noticed people of high reps on other sites coming in HERE and causing trouble, and that their mischief would not be tolerated on their home sites.

1:38 PM
other than that, you allright @RichardU?

@RaoulMensink You can see our Help Center for some more details: workplace.stackexchange.com/help/closed-questions

@RaoulMensink other than what?

me reading your message wrongly.

2:07 PM
@RaoulMensink yep. I'm always alright :D

2:25 PM
@RichardU Thats a dangerous thing to say
One day you'll say something like "This statement is wrong" and then your head will explode
:p

@RaoulMensink It was indeed, but @RichardU summarised it quite well.
Though actually my answer was shorter.

Q: How can I avoid telling my boss about the new company that I'll be working for during resignation?

Kemal FadillahI got a job offer from a company (say Company A), recently. I don't particularly like my current job due to a few reasons and I'd like to say yes to the job offer. The CEO of company A used to work with my boss, and I'm more than certain that my boss is going to ask me about where I'll be working...

@RaoulMensink Just post a link to a question/answer/comment in a single chat message, it will onebox.
My reaction when I get access to site analytics:
Huh. No new user counts. Guess mods can see more than us puny users. :)

5:03 PM
@Lilienthal That's because I've elevated verbosity to an artform. I could spend three days describing a cornflake if I don't watch myself.

@Lilienthal Thanks, that's it, and links to a couple others as well! They are close, but not enough for me to cast a close vote.

I think the definition of "duplicate" is abused terribly.

5:45 PM
I think the "Ask question" button is sometimes abused terrible. :)

@Lilienthal ROFL! Touche!

Sometimes I feel it should say "I'm angry and I want the world to know."

This one is a case of that abuse

Q: How to handle an HR breach in confidentiality?

user50934I am in a situation where the HR Director told another employee something that happened between me and my boss, who is the CEO. The situation had nothing to do with the other employee. What possible strategies do I have for dealing with and resolving this?

Q: How to diplomatically inform a moderator you disagree with aspects of their decision

Peter David CarterWhen one is in receipt of a seemingly well intentioned correspondence from a moderator regarding a user's actions which utilises the customisation of a template response well, and seems to have the site's best intentions at heart, but which, seemingly unintentionally, misrepresents key facts of t...

Thank you @gnat, I was looking to have good laugh and I can tell this will be a quality read.
He's suspended from 2 other sites by the way:

5:55 PM
@Lilienthal only because the illuminati are conspiring against him! rolls eyes

I feel like someone should point out that he's talking about himself so people can stop pretending and drop the "your friend" references because this is some awkward English.
I can never get enough of this image.
I pray it's real and not an html edit because that close reason is just so perfectly matter-of-fact.

I think at times there is a tendency to go just a little bit overboard, not much, just a little bit. That said, as I experience the various incarnations of SE, that little bit seems to be getting littler and littler.
A mistake I made when I first started was one of perception. I thought this place was VERY heavy handed. Then as I gained experience here, I see that it's in response to the knuckleheads that try to disrupt. This place is so good at spotting and stopping trolls that flame-wars never erupt. that is a good thing
So, while I still think this place errs on the side of caution, it is by no means a grievous fault

Q: Is it legal to be fired earlier than your intended resignation date?

acspd7I'm a US citizen working for a top technology company in the Valley in California. Long story short, I've been working in a completely chaotic and toxic environment and am about ready to state my intent to resign at a future date. I don't want to waste any more time here than I already have, so I...

Do we need a canonical "What is at-will employment?" question?
We have this, but the answers are incredibly lacklustre:

Q: "At will" employment definition

guestgiuIn the United States, does "at will" employment basically mean that a company can fire a person at any time without cause? Aren't most companies like this?

9:32 PM
New York is "at will" but not really, as I understand it.
