@enderland I think the person is saying, "My way makes sense, please let me know how to convince the folks at my office that it does." I think it falls victim to the biggest issue with questions here, which is assuming the cause of the issue (coworkers lack of understanding of a superior method), than actually trying to address the cause (why would this be perceived as odd by my coworkers)...

@jmac Agreed.

2:35 PM
lol that person got their own question made CW ?

meta...reputation...too...easy...
holy mother of goodness, if I wanted a high rep, I should just post a question a day on meta about waffles or unicorns.

@jmac ?

@enderland My best answers are so inane. Helpful, but useless in the grand scheme. Yet I read the benefits.

A: Where in the world do Stack Overflow users say they are from?

jmacI ran this query to gather data on all Stack Overflow users with over 1000 reputation. That got a total of 4,711 unique locations for 48,924 users. Of those 48,924 users, 13,138 did not list a location. Of the remaining 35,786 users, I manually inputted the country for 28,490 (almost 80%), which...

A: Can I tattoo the Stack Overflow 404 polyglot?

jmacTo give a straight answer, yes, you can get it as a tattoo as all content is licensed under creative commons. At the bottom of each page you can find the following line: site design / logo © 2013 stack exchange inc; user contributions licensed under cc-wiki with attribution required This sp...

A: Why is one stack piece in the Stack Overflow logo slightly off?

jmacWhere is the math behind this logo? What about this logo? Don't even get me started about the kerning on this logo: My point is that while certain current companies may rely heavily on math to ensure the success of their logos, there are plenty of older logos that relied on the ability o...

A: Clarify the Populist badge description

jmac Given Unaccepted Answer U, Accepted Answer A: U.Score > A.Score x 2, while A.Score > 10 Screw it. Just post the real code. People will have a better chance at understanding it than this convoluted English thing.

okay, granted, the first may have required significant effort.
But for the same amount, I can read the licensing concept at the bottom of the page.

hahahahahaha, nice

I mean, don't get me wrong, none of these are horrible answers
but really, between these 4 answers I got 590 rep?
it took me about a zillion answers to get that in
(that tag probably doesn't go to SO)

yeah I hear you on SO - I answer in VBA which gives me about 5 rep per answer :P

2:55 PM
5 rep? That is massive.
I get 15, if lucky (for an accept), because nobody has the rep to upvote me.
Hence the unsung hero badge.
152 answers, top is +5

my highest SO answer is a joke. lol

A: How to Find the Max Integer Value in a Stack without using max() or iterating over it?

enderlandimport java.util.Collections; import java.util.Stack; public class StackDemo { public static void main(String[] args){ Stack lifo = new Stack(); lifo.push(new Integer(4)); lifo.push(new Integer(1)); lifo.push(new Integer(150)); lifo.push(new Integer(40...

@enderland I don't get it.

@jmac read the linked XKCD :P
he's asking how to return the max without using a method
so I just hard code the max as a return :P

Q: Harassed on twitter

user1450877I am from the UK and work for a medium sized multinational as a software developer. In my lunch breaks I sometimes post to the political blog of a UK news paper from my cell phone. One of the other posters took offence to one of my posts and then went on twitter and publicly tweeted to my employ...

hey we finally got a dup of the fbook question

Q: My facebook wall is bothering some colleagues at work, do they have the right?

FlyerOn my Facebook wall, as does everyone else, I post stuff that reflects my opinion about many things, including jokes, videos, posts, etc. They simply represent my thoughts and who I am. Sometimes I write about some things that happen at work but I do so in an indirect way, without mentioning the ...

Actually that is a very good question I think.... and not a dup
at first blush it is but this one is can my company do this not do my coworkers have a right to call me a stupid twit

@Chad really?
I see what you mean
This is a complicated question - but good
lol I was about to add the UK tag :P

In the US the answer is probably yes they can but I do not know about the UK

@Chad I think a lot of that Fbook post still is applicable, in some sense - obviously the troll found his company somehow

4:03 PM
OMG we can retract close votes now :)

it's been that way for quite some time P

4:19 PM
I am so angry, I'm sitting here stewing. I feel like going to confront HR about the twitter harassment right now

@user1450877 that's a pretty crappy situation to be in tbh

hey @enderland i have good news (everyone)

you saved 15% on car insurance by switching to Geico? (or that a USA only joke?)

im aware of it :P
i saved 15% in 15 minutes

not less?

had an interview this morning at 11, got a call back at 5 saying 'we want you, heres an offer'

nice!
:D

6:34 PM
yeah! they asked if i was interviewing elsewhere, i said yeah, so they hurried up and made an offer,

good offer?
also you might appreciate this, I'm learning parameterized SQL queries

@enderland good for someone my age and experience yeah
@enderland nice! things still moving along for your job move?

@RhysW I'm not sure, I'm decently happy where I'm at - it would be NICE to have more perm position responsibilities but this project is a fair bit of fun once I've gotten into the dev more
(even though it's VBA...)

haha starting somewhere atleast
i am considering taking this position, its a lot closer to home too

they probably don't pay for all your room/board though?

6:38 PM
no but i would be close enough to home that i wouldnt need it

oooh interesting. I'd not be able to live at home anymore

haha yeah, but im considering it from an MMM point of view, an extra year or two would be a help

:P

thats your fault i think like that :P

:-)
i'm doing the roomates/cheap housing strategy

6:44 PM
its a good plan, means you force yourself to socialise a bit and get to know new people too

yah. I've got a friend who is really good about meeting people, definitely has rubbed off on me too

i think ive got better through out this process, havig to talk to so many recruiters and interviewers

7:37 PM
@enderland I am not sure wether to be ecstatic that you are learning them, or shudder at how long you have been doing sql with out them :p;
@user1450877 Do you know who is harrassing you? What is it you hope to achieve by going to HR? Can and will HR do anything about them if you go complain? if you can not answer those questions affirmatively then you probably are not ready for a trip to HR

8:03 PM
@Chad I've not done much SQL or database stuff at all, so don't shudder too much

3 hours later…
11:23 PM
@enderland Ah, yeah, that was the important part I missed. Programmer humor. "The use of GOTO statements is strongly discouraged, especially with the label HELL"
@enderland "There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary, and those who don't."
@enderland "There are two types of people in this world. Those who can extrapolate from missing data."
