I put together a document for the Directors about my current situation. I'd love to get people's opinions on it:

@Zak Dump Hungarian notation. It isn't worth it.

Zak
@Donald.McLean You reckon? I'm liking it so far for a standard baseline to work off of

@Zak Descriptive names are more useful and meaningful. The extra characters that Hungarian notation adds are a cost that outweigh the benefit. Descriptive names tell you what the variable is for, so the type is usually obvious from there.

Apps hungarian isn't about variable type, that's systems hungarian. Apps is about what the variable actually is. E.G. I use a lot of 'ix, iy, row, col` now which is a lot more intuitive than just i,j,k etc.
At least, that's what I've read :)

After reading the discussion on apps vs systems Hungarian notation on Wikipedia, I'm still not sold on the idea. If you're using a variable as an index in a loop, then call it index. If you have in inner loop and an outer loop, call them innerIndex and outerIndex, or even iIndex and oIndex.
The person most likely to be reading your code in the future is you. You want to give yourself all the help you possibly can. :-)
