12:04 AM
I did, I can try it again
@Braiam, it tells me that login_cmd command is not found
I think that I messed up quite a few things
not sure if I should start from scratch

12:19 AM
starting a clean install, some of those issues were over my head

12:50 AM
@derobert - sounds like WIFI N.

4 hours later…
5:16 AM
@mikeserv There are some congestion control algorithms designed for WiFi links... the packet loss was too much for them to bear. They didn't help.

@Vass that just means you need to install a display manager and set it to start on boot

I am sorry but I had to come in here to shout this
F--- GRUB!!!!!!!! WTF HAPPENED TO KISS!!!!
3
worthless piece of crap time wasting garbage!
oh and F--- SYSTEMD TOO!!!
way to completely take a hipster dump on the core philosophy of *nix operating systems

im done

well, thank you then...
don't let the door hit you on the way out?

@maple_shaft Feel better now?

6:35 PM
@maple_shaft what prompted this? Grub is reasonable in my experience
Now systemd I think you're being too lenient with
7

7:28 PM
@Gilles You really think systemd is so bad? Maybe you should write a blog post about it.

@FaheemMitha I exaggerated for comical effect. I've actually never used it. But I've seen a lot of valid criticism about it, and the authors' response to this criticism make me doubt that they'd ever come up with something good

@Gilles The authors being the systemd devs?

yes

@Gilles They certainly seem like an intemperate bunch. But I'll reserve my opinion till I actually try it.
@Gilles I'd be interested in your "lot of valid criticism". Though how can you know it is valid if you have never tried it?

7:46 PM
@FaheemMitha I do feel better :)
I just think that Grub's documentation is very poor for people who very infrequently set up boot loaders

@maple_shaft Lots of free software documentation is very poor. Usually because there no nobody who is especially interested in writing it.
So, unless the project itself makes a concerted and systematic effort to write good documentation, it doesn't happen.

@StéphaneChazelas Re. unix.stackexchange.com/questions/164416/… — it's ok to have two accounts, but you should make it very clear that your accounts aren't interacting. I recommend not voting at all from your second account.
It's not just cross-voting: voting twice on the same post with the two accounts would be abuse. Even taking advantage of your second account to go over the daily vote limit would be abuse.
There is however a precedent that you can receive two lots of swag if both your accounts are eligible. Though if you get there your second account would probably have earned some binding close votes.
