I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I might find help on the following topic.
Some context. I have a domain registered on Gandi.net. But their renewal fees seem to me increasingly extortionate. So I was wondering about switching to a different registrar. But (a) how to pick a reliable registrar? (b) how would I know whether they would charge less for the domain?
If this is a suitable question anywhere on a SE site, which one would it be? It seems like it might be a bit broad for SE.

@FaheemMitha Maaaayyyybe Webmasters?
But probably not on any SE site as you said since it will come down to opinion or shopping questions.

@terdon I'm not familiar with Webmasters, but I'll take a look. Thank you.
It seems that this is something that would come up from time to time, but doing a search didn't produce any hits. Perhaps I should try this AI thing that seems to be all the rage.

@terdon Hey I saw you just posted on the question. I'm hopeful that the poster of the answer updates it to include the info on "just use a file" but if not, then I'd award it to him anyway, because truthfully it's been the most helpful by far

@J-Cake WHy don't you make the edit?
That's the simplest approach, really, and the whole point of making these sites a collaborative effort.

@terdon you know I'll be honest, that never occurred to me

@J-Cake lol :)
I've been known to make quite extensive modifications to fix an answer if it just sent me in the right direction but didn't have enough detail. For example: unix.stackexchange.com/posts/717825/revisions
And that's fine and encouraged. The whole idea of the SE sites is that we can edit and improve each other's posts. So yeah, if you can make the answer better and are willing to do so, go for it!

Fair enough, I mean if its helpful to someone else, it doesn't really matter who put the answer there

yes, exactly
Plus, if you make the edit to someone else's post, they still get the rep and upvotes so you get the answer you wanted and they still reap the benefits of having helped you in the first place. Win win.
I've had simple little answers of mine expanded by some of the proper gurus we have here who converted them to comprehensive resources way beyond my own knowledge.

Yep... Some answers are absolutel goldmines, that's very true
So I've submitted an edit. Apparently it needs peer-review, but my "edits" are more emphasising one point than the other.

Brilliant, thanks!

You're a star!
Do I have to explicitly award the bounty or does it go to the accepted answer automatically?

you have to award the bounty and if you miss the deadline, the points fall to the floor and no one gets them (How do I know? )-;?)

I think there's a small carve-out if there's an Answer (that's created after the bounty is added) that scores >= 2; that answer would get half of the bounty automatically, or the whole amount if it's been Accepted. From: unix.stackexchange.com/help/bounty
with yet more edge cases described in the linked article; yes, it's possible to award the bounty manually, and it's also possible for the bounty to fall on the floor
