@MichaelHomer @Kusalananda (pinging you since you're the ones who're here among the close voters) why is this of topic?

Q: How do I install Microsoft Office 7 on Centos 7

Rayan_LPAI'm having trouble installing Microsoft Office 7 on CentOS 7. If I run: wine WINWORD.EXE I get the error: IOPL not enabled If I run: wine msiexec WINWORD.EXE I get the following stack-trace

It's about installing something through wine and that's on topic here.

@terdon I thought Julie Pelletier's comment was correct. I'm not holding this very firmly though, so if you, as a moderator, think that it's actually not off-topic, I can vote for it to be reopened.

11:51 AM
@terdon Do you think Julie's comment was not correct, and that Gypsy's followup comment about SuperUser being a better forum for this post was wrong?

It is on topic on SU, yes. But it's also on topic here. Wine issues are *nix issues, so on topic.
But what you're saying is that the problem is with msiexec which is some Windows thing and not actually a wine issue at all?

Well msiexec is Microsoft's Windows Installer program. The error comes from improper use of it.

@Kusalananda Ah, I see. I thought it was some wine thing.

We're good then?

OK, in that case, I guess you're right and it's off topic.

11:56 AM
@terdon I imagine MS Office is pretty hard to install on Linux. Regardless whether it's off topic.

@Kusalananda Heh, yes, of course. I was just asking in case I had missed something and, it turns out, I had :)
@FaheemMitha I guess so, yes.

@terdon No worries.

Someone should suggest to the poster those free Virtualbox VMs that MS gives out.
That's not perfect, but it would work.

@terdon, for the record, I'm always happy to be challenged on review votes. I make mistakes from time to time.

Could unix.stackexchange.com/questions/339137/… me migrated to Meta, please? I voted to close it as opinion, but really should have voted it as off-topic with pointers to Meta.

@terdon I need help to understand whether the questions should be considered duplicate.

@Pandya What are the questions? (links)

@Kusalananda I don't understand what the author is talking about. Do you?

@Kusalananda actually that is old discussion. ok let me tell you.
@Kusalananda this is closed as duplicate of this.

@FaheemMitha You referring to the Q I posted about? See comments to thet question.
@Pandya I would agree that they are duplicates. I would possibly not have found the older question and flagged the first one as a duplicate.
If that makes sense?

4:09 PM
@Kusalananda What I want to understand is I think this question is asking for "How do I list all commands" where as this is about "What are the commands and which are the type/categories". So, questions looks different to me. Are they closed as duplicate because answer to this question is exist at there?
^^ So, Should question be closed as duplicate on the basis of answer (even if questions are different or merely related)? /cc @terdon

@Pandya The "how to identify and locate them" part is an exact dupe of the first sentence of the second question.
Gilles' answer to the second question also gives some insight into the "what is a command" part of the first question. The net effect is that the first question is answered by the second.

@Kusalananda Yes, I agree that it has already answer but.....
@Kusalananda How to identify means "How to identify the category of command" the answer is type and "Locate" means where does it defined, the answer is which.

Q: "Close as duplicate" - what if only the answer is a duplicate?

jalfI know it's already established that duplicate questions should be closed but not deleted, so they can act as "pointers" to the one canonical answer. However, I think there's one important aspect that is usually glossed over: lately I've run into a number of instances where questions have been ...

Note that I'm not interested in re-opening my question, rather, I'm interested in knowing how different questions are considered as duplicates based on answer?

4:25 PM
Maybe you could formulate it and post it as a question on the U&L Meta site?

@Kusalananda the purpose why I've said "old discussion" is : meta.unix.stackexchange.com/q/3851/66803 (you're able to see as of having 10k+ tools).
^^ This may be cause for my deletion!

Well, as I said, I would have agreed with the dupe vote, because of the overlap between the two, but I would not have flagged it if I wasn't aware of the older question.

oh! sorry for pinging to @terdon (again) as we've already discussed and I forgot; but just remember: /cc @Kusalananda
