I want to do some investigation prior to posting a question but I need some help finding information:

I am using the spectrwm window manager (with Ubuntu 14.04 under it) and I want to disable the suspend that occurs when I close my laptop lid. I have changed the setting under Gnome, and it functions correctly. However, when I use spectrwm, this setting isn't used and it puts the laptop into a suspend.

Where should I look first to diagnose this issue?

@derobert Isn't that the same link twice?
@crimsonspectre You could first post the question and then add diagnostic information as necesssary.

Hi. Reviewing new answers, seen this one: unix.stackexchange.com/questions/250249/… Had to click "Skip" because I've got a few questions. Given it's a new user who don't yet have permission to comment, I can't direct them to comment under Kevin's answer. On the other hand, the message of his is not an answer and thus should probably be deleted. But then we can't really delete it because it contains useful information.
Should I flag things like that, providing a custom message to moderator? Something along the lines of "this should be turned into a comment"?
or maybe I should flag the message for deletion and then go update Kevin's answer myself?

@AlexanderBatischev One of the flag reasons is "Not an Answer ... It should possibly be ... a comment ...".

@MichaelHomer It also says "it does not attempt to answer the question", which the answer in question (sorry for tautology) does
I'm just hesitant to flag things because I'm afraid this might result in the comment being deleted without proper migration of its contents. Should I just stop worrying?

@AlexanderBatischev Probably. It's easier.
You might as well make the edit yourself, too, if it makes sense, and get the two points.

all right, will do. Thanks!
hmm, no I won't. To properly update the answer, I have to know edit the command and output. Don't want to screw that, never even touched an RHEL system

@AlexanderBatischev Just flag it as not an answer. If we feel it's worth saving, mods can convert it into a comment.

Does anyone know why virtualbox is contrib/misc?

@FaheemMitha oops, I meant en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Unix for the second link
@FaheemMitha depends virtualbox-dkms | virtualbox-source | virtualbox-modules

@derobert Ok. So?
virtualbox-modules is listed as virtual.

hmmm, I thought those were non-free.... guess they're contrib as well...
> It is in the "contrib" area of the Debian archive because it requires a non-free compiler (Open Watcom) to build the BIOS.
... guess that's why

@derobert Oh. That's a C compiler?

Apparently.

It does say what the license of the source is, or if it is even available.
Unfortunate.
