I was wondering if we still had one of those rooms

yeah, I had to figure out which one

4:48 AM
@mikeserv - if you have a problem with a decision of the mods, you are welcome to use the Contact Us page on the site and contact SE employees directly and they will check in to it, but it doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with what they've done here as far as I can tell (I'm just a mod from a few other sites though). Please don't create sock puppets to get around the suspension as they will be destroyed and may result in lengthening your suspension on your main account.
if you are suspended and feel like the mods aren't addressing your concerns, the aforementioned "contact us" page is the way to go

Guys, do you know of a standard keyboard shortcut to focus on the file list when in a file amnager? (or one particularly for Dolphin). I am constantly tabbing and testing until I get the focus there, which is annoying, and googling isn't helping

@slm why the heavy deletion here
Or did your edit coincide with an update from the original answerer

slm
@Anthon - I submitted an edit right when they did
yeah I was fixing a typo, I'll roll it back.
@Anthon - thanks

Now the edit history really looks ugly, good to know that that can happen.

slm
yeah

1:14 PM
@slm did you see my post on meta about rolling back? It was the first thing I selected in my self assigned role of 2k+ review reviewer.

@Anthon As you saw, I had exactly the same issue and, surprise, surprise, when attempting to roll back an edit of exactly the same user!

@slm what happened with mikeserv? I see his account has been suspended. Is he not allowed in chat either?
@terdon ditto
@derobert so, how was the con?

@FaheemMitha Suspensions also affect the chat user, yes.

@terdon Oh, that's too bad.
@terdon asked any questions in the emacs beta yet?

slm
@Anthon I've never encountered this. Nice catch on the bug.

1:24 PM
24.5 questions per day. Nice going.
I just discovered that Gilles does not approve of the new emacs site. To my surprise.
I'd have thought he would be in favor of emacs having somewhere to call home. Maybe there is some concern about balkanization. However, given that some are the current sites and so big, and increasingly dysfunctional, maybe smaller sites would be better. The smaller, more targeted sites actually seem to do better.

@FaheemMitha Yup, and got an answer immediately :)

@terdon oh. I didn't find you in the site.

Q: Why is my function not identifying the end of the region correctly?

terdonI have the following function, adapted slightly from here: ;; Insert text around a region. In this case, it's ;; the LaTeX code environment from the listings package (defun wrap-code (start end) "Insert a \begin{code} and \end{code} around a region." (interactive "r") (save-excursion ...

@terdon Excellent.
Funny the emacs beta is currently not listed in accounts.

@FaheemMitha Presumably 'cause it's still in private beta.

1:36 PM
@terdon I guess.

2:31 PM
@slm, lamolabs is your blog right?

slm
yeah

Never mind. I figured it out from the way things were explained ;)

Hello
I have irssi how can parse the text live?

Huh?

so if someone says !check username....
how can i get a bash in while to run cmd after that?

I'm still not sure what you're asking, but it sounds like you're trying to implement a bot inside irssi, which would be harder than just making a separate program that connects on its own
irssi supports plugins, so you could do it that way, but there's not much reason to

ok
im running multiple screen with irc bots that check the amount of coins i have on irc server.
how can do !check, which returns the number of coins...
how can i script that it gets the number of coins from the return

So you want something that sends !check to the channel, receives the response, and then passes that result to a bash script or something? I don't know how to do that within irssi, you could post a question

7:17 PM
I have done first part which is to send message via screen -X stuff method
I can't think of a way to do the second part

You can try having the channel's output logged (/help log), and have a script that watches that logfile. It'd probably be easier to just write an irssi plugin though, if you know Perl. irssi.org/documentation/perl

Ok thanks will give it a go,

The really easy solution is to just write an IRC bot that has nothing to do with irssi, if you're not tied to that. There are libraries for basically every language that make it trivial

Since I have 10 of these is there a optimal way?

10 channels? You can have them all go to one log file I think

7:22 PM
Hmm sounds much easier.
Which language is best for the irc bot, perl or python or c?

Doesn't really matter, whichever you know best

Ok thanks.

@FaheemMitha it does have one advantage: it will hopefully end the scope war on SO, we can finally say that if you aren't programming Emacs or using Emacs for programming then your Emacs question is off-topic

8:11 PM
@Arsalan I recommend you using supybot or some kind of plugable bot for that task, it will be leaps easier to do that

8:34 PM
@Gilles True. I suspect that few people will be posting on emacs related matters on other SE sites once the emacs site takes off.

We have an emacs site? I WANT A VIM SITE!

@Patrick Well, as soon as you people get yourselves a decent editor, the site will follow. What, you expect a pico site as well?
Sorry, easy shot there.

Vi/Vim

Proposed Q&A site for vi/Vim aficionados, whether they be newbies, ninjas in training, or revered gurus of the popular text editor.

Currently in commitment.

10:08 PM
@Patrick I. WANT. A. PONNY!!!

I do not see much of information being removed from the original question. Or is it?

10:29 PM
@Torger597 nothing was removed that affects the contents of the question. All that Michael removed was irrelevant background information that is not needed to understand the problem at hand. — terdon ♦ 10 secs ago

@Ramesh I feel it's fine

user3852496I have a problem with my wifi internet connection that is secured by WPA. I have moved to a new location. I had set up a working internect connection but lost the connection after about an hour and this has happened more than once. I cannot simply reboot and run the same commands again as it does...
