12:00 AM
Does anyone know how to get a user page by user name/nick?

12:30 AM
This might be a dumb question, but can opening a PDF attachment via alpine (for example) infect my computer? I'm running Debian wheezy. I don't know if a PDF can execute arbitrary code, but I don't see why not.
Granted, attack vectors in the wild are not likely to be 'nix-specific.

not unheard of, but very unlikely attack vector

@Braiam Hmm. If evince or okular bring up a malicious PDF, how am I protected?

@FaheemMitha no idea

@Braiam Ok

as you can see, they exploit vulnerabilities inherent to the readers, so the only thing I could suggest is keeping yourself updated

12:38 AM
@Braiam readers? you mean PDF readers, like Okular/Evince?

slm
1:02 AM
@Braiam It's not even that good an A either. Makes the site look foolish that that can even happen.

@FaheemMitha actually I meant the underlying libraries, if they use

@Braiam Ah, Ok.

1:48 AM
@FaheemMitha you know how to change gcc for clang while using dpkg-buildpackage or debuild?
anyone having problems cloning from alioth git repository?

2:09 AM
@Braiam Depends on the build system, but in most cases, exporting CC will work, I think.
I think autotools uses CC.
If autotools, you can make some assumptions. See eg gnu.org/software/autoconf/manual/autoconf-2.69/html_node/…
C++ is CXX.

2:30 AM
@Braiam and literally never seen again..
Wow.

Hey @Seth

> debuild sanitises the environment by removing all environment variables except for [...] DEB_*, the (C, CPP, CXX, LD and F)FLAGS variables
;)

@Braiam What are you trying to do, exactly? I think you can export CXX, CC etc from rules if you want to.

@FaheemMitha compiling upstream chromium without patches

@Braiam Oh. You want to switch compilers? Why?

2:43 AM
@FaheemMitha I need a fast build, and supposedly there's a bug that has to solve upstream, but I'm sure is a packaging issue

@Braiam Not really following, but Ok.

Hi @Faheem

@Seth So, busy day? About to go back to sleep here.

It wasn't terribly busy but it was full, if that makes sense :)
@Braiam Still around?

2:59 AM
@Seth ?

@Braiam Let's talk elsewhere, it isn't really related to anything here.

3:40 AM
@Seth Ok

4:27 AM
I'm a bad influence wherever I go:
in Tavern on the Meta on Meta Stack Exchange Chat, 12 hours ago, by Braiam
next tavern trolling task: that all users use Shog avatar

9 hours later…
1:26 PM
I'm having online banking problem with both Chromium and Iceweasel (Firefox). Are there any other browsers available on Debian that are worth trying?

1:40 PM
@FaheemMitha check if the bank don't support TSL

slm
use real chrome?

if the site uses <SSLv3 it wont matter

@slm Yes, I was considering that. Might it make a difference?

change the bank :P

in which case I would follow Ramesh advice

1:41 PM
@Ramesh :-) It's Citibank. The alternatives are probably worse.

domain?

slm
not sure, but I use it for online banking and haven't any issues w/ it

@slm Ok. As opposed to chromium
@Braiam citibank.com/india
redirects to something more complicated.
Sorry if I'm incoherent. I'm tired. Off to dinner now.

@FaheemMitha I bet is due them using SSLv3 ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=online.citibank.co.in

@FaheemMitha opera

1:49 PM
@terdon Interesting. Does opera run on wheezy? I remember KDE had a browser. What happened to it?

@FaheemMitha I'm sure it will, why not? And I don't remember the name of the KDE browser either, I was just looking for it. It wasn't bad at some point.
konqueror?

@terdon That's what it was called, yes. Wonder if it still exists.
Apparently yes. I even have it installed.

@FaheemMitha Still going strong apparently:

@terdon Wonder if it is worth trying...

Anything is worth trying. Especially since all you need to do is attempt to access a web page. Should take all of a minute :)

1:52 PM
my rule of thumb is that when Chromium and Firefox fails is time to blame webmasters

@terdon The problem I've having is setting up freaking online banking. According to the bank customer support, everything I'm typing in is correct. But it is still failing. Godamn annoying.
Ok, really off to dinner. Thanks for the feedback, guys.

can the user login single user mode in this case?

@FaheemMitha You're going to have to try IE then probably. Either via some kind of boot into Windows or VM, wine, IEs4Linux or whatever.

2:40 PM
@terdon Why IE?

3:10 PM
@FaheemMitha Because if it fails on firefox and chrome it was almost certainly designed for IE. Either that or the whole thing just doesn't work anywhere which seems unlikely.

@terdon I guess. Still, they supposedly support all of Chrome, Firefox, and IE, though the lady said Chrome had some issues. Technically I have been using Chromium, not Chrome, so I guess I could try Chrome. As @slm suggested.

9:13 PM
anyone here play a musical instrument, such as the sax?

@slm these guys does... also @terdon

10:19 PM
@slm i have a few guitars

10:57 PM
@Braiam I love those guys!

11:07 PM
Hi guys.

@Seth err.. okey
you discovered them now?

@Braiam He means in a manly way.
@Braiam If you mean ThePianoGuys, I had never heard of them before now, either.
Are they well known.

beats me

slm
There's a SE site for music, wasn't sure if asking about instruments there was OT

11:31 PM
@slm maintenance is ok, recommendations not

@slm I think shopping suggestions are OT everywhere on SE.
