kceI would like to build the newest port of Firefox (version 4.0.1,1). I currently have the package version installed (3.6.13). Q: Hardware to install 64-bit OS

Chethan S.If I search on Internet for minimum requirements to install a 64-bit operating system, Microsoft and allied forums recommend 4 GB RAM as the minimum criteria. On the other hand, when I look at Linux communities and say I have Dual Core Processor and 2 GB of RAM they say it's a 64-bit processor an...

Q: Debian Live - Squeeze with Broadcom NetExtreme 5709

Mike PenningtonI have a Dell 710 with Quad Bcom NetExtreme 5709s. In the name of expediency, I'm trying to boot off the Squeeze live CD, but the Broadcom drivers are in non-free, so they don't come up when you boot. No problem, I think to myself. I will sneaker-net the bnx2-firmware deb and all is good. I h...

@Tshepang your comment on ^^ is not remotely helpful or nice. not everyone know's what an i386 or i686 is

my comment is related only to the typo
he repeats uname -m

@tshepang ah I misinterpreted. my bad, why don't you correct it? I'm sure he has no idea what you're talking about any more than I did

@xenoterracide actually, I dont know what the command he intented is
I have made a new comment

@tshepang ok
@tshepang I would guess that command, and that he's got 2 different systems

did u miss my chat above, regarding outdated comment

@Tshepang no

seems ppl ignore question content at times, and focus only on the title; I say that cuz the question isn't clear, and no one bothered to fix it
@xenoterracide so why no response

I thought the question was clear, personally my mind corrected that bad grammar when I read it

@Tshepang ok, but I was referring to this

@MichaelMrozek are we migrating old posts from SO and so on?
if we find them

@xenoterracide You can try flagging it. Normally SO doesn't like migrating old posts, but then sometimes a mod will randomly do it anyway without prompting, so I don't really know

@MichaelMrozek ok
@MichaelMrozek I just found the SO duplicate on the question, that we were just talking 'bout
:P

Can I replace my XFCE desktop environment and run LXDE instead of it or something lightweight or just X? Could you tell me how? I already installed LXDE. But I don't know how to run it and replace XFCE. When I logout from XFCE, I don't have the possibility to run other desktop environment. My Xubuntu version is 10.04

@MichaelMrozek What's your bet for next? (I think Tshepang, then Caleb or me)

You've almost got 1337 edits. I have no idea what percentage of those are body edits

@MichaelMrozek That includes tag edits, and if there was a badge for that I'd have gotten it long ago

@Gilles I really think when u retag posts, also remove junk like greetings and apologies
@MichaelMrozek I expected @Gilles to get that one first
apologies -> I'm new to linux...
there's too many of those, as if the poster's newbie-ness won't be exposed by the question itself well enough

@Tshepang I use the inline retag button (10k only, which is silly, but someone may have written a userscript for it). It's a lot faster than an edit, so I only bother editing if there's more to it than a bit of fluff (e.g. formatting or seriously broken English).

@Gilles oh, ok
