... and this is why I find the "opt out of hats" link not sufficient, because I come across posts filled with "I'm doing this for this hat!"

@jakebeal Doing stuff like that on the main site is definitely bad form. Chat on the other hand is different.

If people are posting obvious hat questions in Academia for the sole purpose of farming hats, then that's a problem. That being said, other stack exchanges are likely to have a much higher yield of hats.
