In a Ph.D. application, a statement of purpose (or more precisely, research statement) is required. I think a candidate should use this statement to showcase his/her good research qualities backed up by the research experience to the admission committee.
In order to make those qualities (i.e., t...
How best to present long equations in two-column papers?
I've tried splitting them in two or more lines along operators, but that still looks a bit weird to me, especially when parentheses have to be carried along across the lines. Also, I've considered stretching them across both columns, but ...
I have recently been updating my academic CV. I realise that some items are not as internationally recognised as to that every reader will be aware of their importance without googling them. Hence, I am thinking about inserting hyperlinks to those items lest the reader wish to learn more.

Sometimes all three apply to the same question. For example, this question asks about choice of font style and size (typography), text-wrapping and spacing (typesetting), and also general formatting
I intend to include my computational model code(s) in its entirety as an appendix in my dissertation. I've gone through my university's formatting guidelines and haven't seen anything on the proper way to format the code in terms of size of font, text-wrapping, spacing, and so forth. What's the...
I am on my way to hospital for a scheduled surgery. Supposed to be a not so high rsik one. But, who knows. If I am not back in two weeks, it means I am gone. Wish this site to be a forever excellent site for all the academians around the the world.
@ff524 I agree on formatting. But I still fail to see (as a typist and a copy editor) how your description of typesetting and typography differ. The first question you link is clearly about typesetting, and also the second question is clearly a typographical one.
Looking at the questions, there is a huge thematic overlap (even for those questions that only have one tag). Mostly, the choice of tag seems arbitrary. I would synonymise all of them (to formatting).
As for formatting: Properly separating the tags would require a lot of retagging and I would not know who could benefit from it. Always keep in mind that tags are to ease finding questions addressing your problem or to subscribe to question you want to answer/review.
I have noticed that we have got three tags with very similar topics:
formatting (61x)
typesetting (17x)
typography (18x)
(Only very few questions are tagged by more of them.)
I see a large overlap, surely between typesetting and typography. To me, it seems that these two topics are identical...
