You also need -r or the input won't be able to contain backslashes.

I think I fixed the infinite input and (thanks to @ Dennis!) newline/backslash problems

I think CMCs would do well on r/PPCG

I don't reddit, but I like CMCs

CMC: Given a set of matched parenthesis, determine the maximum depth of the nesting. Examples:
() --> 1, ()()()() --> 1, (()()()) --> 2, (()((())())) --> 4, (((((((()()()))))))) --> 7

Haven't we done this before?

6:10 PM
idk

Yep we did

@DJMcMayhem can we take an array instead and determine the array's depth?

We've probably done something very similar, but that's because it's really easy to make challenges

ES6, 48 bytes: f=x=>x!=(x=x.replace(/\)\(/,""))?f(x):x.length/2

@KritixiLithos Ehhh, I'm gonna go with no
12 bytes in V: Try it online!

6:14 PM
Shouldn't the last test case be 8

Oh duh, I'm an idiot
Very obvious 4 byte golf: Try it online!
@BasicSunset Good point

I think the last time we got this challenge in chat was more difficult because there could be other characters inside the brackets. (1234) for example

Is SE slow for only me?

@KritixiLithos What do you think of my solution?

there's not much to say about just 8 bytes :P

6:18 PM
I guess so.
I think it's a cool solution though
And this shows it in action: Try it online!

You can use unary to save 1 byte: Try it online!
but yeah, it's a pretty neat solution

I think e"%)%(" l /2 works in Japt for 12 bytes

@KritixiLithos What if there was a register that was defined to the number of times ò was looped?
Would that be useful?
I guess that wouldn't actually save any bytes: òÓ()ò"<something>p

why not? It is an interesting idea, hmmm... I'm thinking when would this feature be useful and in what type of challenges

6:35 PM
Would it be shorter to repeatedly remove )( first?

One question we'd need to think about it is whether that increment happens at the beginning of the macro or the end. So if a breaking error happens on the first run, is it 0 or 1?

I personally prefer incrementing at the end, so in your case, it would be 0 because ò would have looped 0 times (it broke on the first run and did not complete it).

Huh. Apparently today is the 49th anniversary of MLK Jr's assassination (article by his niece)

Because space is fake

Or why does the FES exists at all
How can people be this stupid

@TuxCopter Can we please put him on the next shuttle to Mars?

> It's all CGI! - SpaceIsFake, on a Mars mission

@TuxCopter yeah I don't understand how people think space is real /s

Someone fly him up in a plane. Then, we he says that the "curvature" is just the light bending through the window, shove him out of the plane.
With a parachute.

6:54 PM
You misspelled "without".

Actually, in his comments he says light bending isn't real and no visible curvature can be observed (Actually curvature is softened by refraction, but still curvature can be observed, even on low-altitude flights)

The idea has crossed my mind in the past that I could pretend to be someone who believes in something really stupid. Maybe that's what he's doing

> no visible curvature can be observed
Ever been on a plane?

The posts aren't worth the attention.

I can't visit imgur.com anyways

6:58 PM
@TuxCopter Can you link the actual reddit post?

... I just googled for a Ruby problem, found a Stack Overflow question about a related (but not quite identical) problem, thought "hey, this is a neat solution", wanted to upvote it and couldn't because it's my own answer :(

in my defence, the answer is almost 4 years old...

None of them are as good as that image one

@MartinEnder I've searched the web for many Rails problems, then found that they are because of my own stupidity

7:11 PM
@Alt-F4 Your stupidity in using Rails or something else?

@fəˈnɛtɪk No, like adding br's in a loop in a view, or forgetting to check scaffolds.css because my font was refusing to change

Are you implying that it's a stupidity to use rails?

Rails is very good
I was implying that I was making stupid mistakes. I like Rails.

Not really. just joking about what he said.

Rails is honestly one of the best web application development frameworks I've ever used

7:15 PM
@Alt-F4 That could be saying good things about Rails or bad things about the other ones you have tried.

@fəˈnɛtɪk it's the former

@JanDvorak true

trying to work out which correct answer is winning.. it's tough to tell!

Are you guys railing at each other?

@mbomb007 Kek

LeoComment polyglot From an original idea by Digital Trauma The challenge This challenge requires you to write a polyglot which contains a comment in as many languages as possible. The comment must say This is a polyglot comment. The program must do nothing at all. The winner is whoever writes...

@mbomb007 Yes, I know

7:43 PM
@PhiNotPi Why is reddit.com/r/ppcg/comments/63fm9d/who_am_i/… flaired as joke/meme?

@TuxCopter Because I thought it was, it's unflaired now.

Why does the OP have both separate CSS for their username and a special "S" mark? Is that just another pointless Reddit feature?

Yep it is

IIRC the different CSS for the username can be deactivated

8:14 PM
> pointless
I find it very useful

8:32 PM
Everything is fine... I am here
@MartinEnder hahahah that is great

8:55 PM
r/ppcg? :o

@Dennis Is this code valid for the "You had me at hello" challenge?
"code" is a hyperlink btw

@Anthony no
It needs to be able to continuously receive input

Question: Why are all references to 4chan screencaps and never links?

@LegionMammal978 AFAIK links getdeleted when they sink below 10 pages down

9:07 PM
Because threads expire.

Okay that makes more sense @fəˈnɛtɪk

Odd how they're physically deleted and not just hidden
I guess to save server space

There are some 4chan archive sites.
Most of them focus on a few boards.

And I guess archive.org, etc. work for popular or explicitly archived threads

Sure

9:13 PM
@MartinEnder Oh yeah, I once did the same with one of my Mathematica golfs

│bash-4.3# sudo apt-get update
│sudo: unknown uid 0: who are you?
I was not expecting existential questions from sudo today.

@AnthonyPham No, that still processes one line at a time and thus won't work for infinite lines.

@mınxomaτ wtf did you do??

Long story. Basically stacking things until they fall over
Linux wizards, how can I give a non-root user CAP_SETUID and CAP_SETGID caps?

...wtf are caps?

11:22 PM
Heh
Well I know nothing about this
What does your /etc/passwd contain?

Believe it or not, right this second, this is a very ambiguous question.

??
...wot

The same reason my root is currently UID0, but unpriv'ed. Very long story.

What happened?

Nothing that I didn't want to happen, surprisingly.

11:25 PM
...what are you trying to accomplish?

I'm hardening a sandbox.

Oh, I see

I've used Regex101 with Microsoft Excel more than the normal person.

@SIGSEGV This is a pretty simple example of a series, though. I could probably explain it.

11:52 PM
Which link is being put above the logo at pxls.space?
