Hey! I got a static windows build of golflua, see here meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/1216/7162

@PeterTaylor Agree they are both weak. I just thought the one submitted for closure was less weak than the other, so in a just world they both have to go. :)

Does this deserve the tag ?

Q: Programs that move around in memory

Gavriel FeriaIt's time for some quines! Well, sort of. This challenge is to create the smallest program that could move around in memory, i.e. if a program is resident in 2000:0100, the program should move to say, memory address be7a:3470. Rules The memory address to move in should be pseudorandom. It's ...

I wouldn't tag it with that, but it seems fine to mention it in the text as a point of comparison.

I thought so.

For those people who like to ignore questions, there is a setting you can change to actually hide them instead of graying them out.

Wow. Couldn't find this book anywhere, and then there it was, apparently distributed with the source: sblom.github.io/openj-core/ioj.htm

Don't you hate it when that kind of stuff happens?

Hmm. Actually, no. I'd hate it if the book never turned up (or my eternal spirit would, at least). But suddenly finding it was a joyous experience. :)

4:15 AM
I enjoy the finding part, but don't you hate it when you misplace things, I meant?
@luserdroog I saw your comment on my post.
I don't know if that eliminates C++, my pet language.

Yes. But I loose things so often, that I've had to take steps to prevent constant self-loathing.
Question to self: "What use is this hate?"

True.

I don't see how it would eliminate C++.

Would the putPixel() function just figure out where to put the character?
Or would it eliminate ASCII characters?

It would, the way I imagine it, take just the x and y coordinates of where the dot should be drawn.
That could be a bit in a bitmap or a cell in an ascii grid.

4:19 AM
OK, I get it now.

It means graphical languages couldn't use the built-in drawline.
Every program would have to implement line-drawing.

Oh, I see.
@luserdroog This better?

Back to "not finding things", I've had an Alibris book search going for over 10 years now. If it ever finds one, I'll be exstatic.

What do you want?
I have access to several databases that I could search.

An English translation of Boethius' 3 books on Music.
written ca. 300 aD

4:26 AM
OK, doesn't seem like anything I could find, but I'll try.

Alibris once offered me a facsimile in greek for several thousand dollars.

I assume you didn't take it.

But of course, that's way out of my price-range. And I don't really read greek.

Is this one of the titles?
boethius consolation of philosophy

Sadly, no.
That's the book of his that's been reprinted a gazillion times.

4:28 AM
OK, can you give me the titles?
I just did a search on Boethius' name.
This?

As far as I know it's just called "3 Books on Music".

the principles of music book

yes, that could be it. or an excerpt.

I can't remember my source for this, but I think the three books are about: Instrumental Music, The Music of the Spheres, The Music of the Human Body.

4:31 AM
Ahh, I found the second, maybe.
Do you know Latin?
I found Harvard's copy free in Latin.
Or German?

Hm, I might know enough to try.
That amazon link might be it. Still more than I want to pay, but better than thousands.

I don't know enough to even tell of they are what you want, but here: archive.org/stream/aniciimanliitor02friegoog#page/n2/mode/2up

The only book I've paid >$100 for is the OED.
(except texts in college, of course, sigh.)

Wow. Libri Quinque. That's more than 3. :)

4:37 AM
Try Open Library: openlibrary.org
I think Quinque is 5.
Yup, just looked it up.
I have a great responsibility on my shoulders now.
I hit 1000 rep.
I can now review bad posts, suggested edits, can edit on meta, and can review on meta.
I also added download links to several tags, increasing my rep by 22 points.
Someone kindly accepted them (they should be helpful).

Good work!
Bummer, the open-library text only has every-other page.
Wait, other parts of the book have both sides... I'm confused.

4:53 AM
You know, I had this problem once.
The other pages were in a different section of the book.

ok. It's still more than I had yesterday!

This bookreader is fighting my Netflix for bandwidth.

Does your book happen to be an MPEG-4?

Try reading online.
I've got to go now. Bye.

5:12 AM
see ya. thanks!

@PeterTaylor Yeah the copycats would be inevitable. Perhaps if the meta question was 'What makes a good question?' and the answers contained links to questions that people think are good examples along with their reasons for thinking of them as good examples?

I might be out of context here... Does Ray Charles have any special meaning? codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/23649/7162
The user did that special fast kind of editing where no revision is created

@mniip I flagged it.
By the way, he is some sort of American composer, so I gathered.

Well yes, Raymond Charles is some person. I was thinking there might be a secondary meaning

I did a web search and couldn't find one.

5:34 PM
@mniip The only reason you'd pick Ray Charles over other musicians seems to be that he's blind. Not sure what that has to do with the post, but it could be the OP saying, "Oh, missed that rule, I'm blind." A bit of a stretch, but...

Eh. For some questions I really wish they were sandpapered in the sandbox first.
