@Wedapashi @Aravona @Liam @OddDeer @Rory @imsodin etc. Wow! I'm humbled & honored by how much you care about me and my tiny contributions to the site!! Last night I was crying about leaving, and today crying about your concern for me. (Doubt you're surprised that I cry a lot!) Hubby works nights (EST) which is my best chatting time. Many of you are in different time zones, so live chat's tough. He works days on Friday, 10-3, so maybe I'll see if any of you are around tomorrow.
The notes you leave mean so much even if I can't answer them right away. I'm almost deaf and don't hear notifications, so I have to remember to check my inbox! I might drop some random notes too, like this one – and "leave" the room when unavailable. I'll read all those meta posts and try to put together something cohesive and respectful to say. I love you guys and admire how hard you're working to grow the site. I guess pushing the envelope is what scope building's about.
Any of you read the book Little Engine That Could? People believe in the little train and in the end it makes it up the big hill! This site reminds me of that! I'm praying and thinking about how to work with you and not against you! BTW, I tried to encourage the people at the On the Water proposal to come here, hope they do! Nighty-night! Or should I say Morning all! Thanks again sweet friends!

@OddDeer I updated your question - 'enlighten' means to shed light on or is often a spiritual term, 'light' in terms of fire means ... start, get going, etc.

@Aravona Thank you for that! Also mentioned that I've had a typo "Hibatchi" instead of "Hibachi".
I've updated the question :)

@OddDeer awesome :D
looks good

@Aravona this bbq is absolutely crazy :) Really good for outdoor activities.

8:19 AM
@OddDeer haha looks it, mostly around me you have to use BBQs that are static, so there all year round if you're like in woodlands etc. For the garden we have a Weber.

@Aravona I didn't realize you could hide a tag. Thanks @Liam for the excellent instructions. Yes, there is a difference between hunting questions and graphic ones though. Truthfully, I usually ignore hunting questions. If it's about equipment or something, I give it a quick glance though, because if it meets the SE criteria, it deserves an upvote just like anything else. In fact, my first downvote here was the gross moose's mouth, so you should feel honored OddDeer!! :)
@Weda, @OddDeer @RoryAlsop etc., I'm going to try and find a good place for my comments in your meta post. I might write an answer, although, many of my feelings were expressed well by @Erik. Since he hasn't been in her recently, I don't think he can get pinged, unless a mod lets him know there's a message, but if you do show up, Erik, thanks for that great answer.
Hey Odd - I want to be clear that I'm not picking on you. I think you're really awesome! It's just that you threw the first question out there to test the waters, so it's the only good one to refer to when discussing this. Pretend I'm talking about the question, not the author, ok?
I have a strong objection to the titles. Do we really want to ask somebody (like a friend, or someone invited in from another proposal, like the watersports folks) to show up for the first time and be greeted by a bloody moose's mouth title? If I hadn't been here before, I certainly wouldn't give the site a second look.
I think only part of it is about age and/or vegetarianism. I'm old! I'd be a vegetarian if I wasn't so lazy so I call myself a "vegetarian hypocrite"! That being said, what's the real benefit in that kind of title? It looks like a tabloid to me, you know how they pick the most graphic way to describe something rather than the regular magazines, which might announce an article about what might happen when a moose dies.
In America, sensationalism is all the rage - the grosser the better. I'm equally as opposed to that. I don't know how you guys feel, so maybe it's okay for your kids to see things on a cover of a paper or magazine at the checkout counter that you wouldn't have them read if you had seen it first. Of course, we're desensitized to a lot of it, but that doesn't mean it's right.

I think titles like that fall into the rude or not acceptable for reasonable discourse. In a hunter's circle, bloody mouths may be a normal topic, and descriptions of gagging may also be acceptable, but I think our audience is wider than that. I'm frustrated here, because I was hoping to start a community of animal lovers. It isn't really happening, but there are a few of us, and, now that I know how much you care for us little guys, I don't want to give up.
People have been very gracious in voting - in fact, I wish other sites would vote like you guys do - and others are just ignoring them, but I truly wish that if I was saying something offensive, I'd get called out.
I like the spoiler idea, though I didn't know how it worked until I hovered over the box. That's why I threw that sentence into the question, and I appreciate that it was left there. Was the graphic really necessary - I don't think so. I was thinking about a question not too long ago (I don't have it now, sorry) about how to humanely kill something that had been injured. Would a picture of that injured thing, or the method for killing it have been accceptable? I hope not.

Another example popped up today - about corpses on Mount Everest. It's a legitimate question, but I wouldn't want to open it up and find a graphic of bodies strewn all over the mountain.
Or even a spoiler with them under it.
As with other subjects, they seem to come up in groups, sometimes by the same person, like you my fried @OddDeer. I'm proud (and envious!) of the amount of rep you've gotten in such a short time, but maybe spreading the questions out would make the front page look so inundated.
The same thing happens when I post bird questions. I post one, and another user tends to post a few more soon after. A squirrel question appeared shortly after mine - and is much more interesting than mine. Knots had a lot of the front page for a while too, so maybe this is just how we do things here.
Another question - is our language a slippery slope? We have bloody moose, then we have corpse, then we have trying to keep a llama from being a bear's lunch. I know I'm a sensitive person, so I'm trying to see it from a newcomer's perspective. Sadly, as with most things, my own opinions may be making me lose perspective.
Hubby just got home, so I'll get off this soapbox for the moment. I hope at least something I said was useful. My dad used to tell me that if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the pollution. If there's something that feels polluted to me here, the mature thing is to try to be part of the solution. I see you guys trying hard to get to the place of "happy medium" and I thank you for that.
@ab2 Hey, I just noticed I can ping you from here. How've you been my friend? Have you checked out the newest attempt at a wildlife proposal? I don't think it will come to fruition but it's worth looking at. It seems like there are experts, like game wardens, etc., who want a site, and if it doesn't work, maybe we can drag them over here!
:)
@Aravona No idea why there are downvotes on those answers of yours - good thing there are lots of upvotes, so I hope you don't feel too bad.
@RussellSteen Are you talking about me? Probably! I'm sorry if I've upset you.

@Aravona That's our baby red squirrel from June. See how he's tiny enough to fit on the head of a hose nozzle! He's growing, but slowly, and very talkative. Sorry your grays are overpowering the reds. This one's for you!
@Liam - didn't realize you love the red guys too - Aravona can share this with you!
