Hey everyone

@JohnP What's the issue with migrating my question?
@michaelpri Hey :)

@FranckDernoncourt - As far as I am aware, they don't normally migrate questions out of private betas. But, I've only been in on a couple, so it may be normal. I was just surprised.
@michaelpri - I think the placebo question still needs to be closed. Now it's simply asking about a study effect, and has no relation to health.

2:38 AM
@JohnP Yeah, I voted to reopen, but I was starting to have second thoughts.
There will need to be a custom close reason though

I flagged it for Robert, our private beta mod.

And Franck's gone
It kind of seems like he invented his own experiment

Eh, whatever. I just wish people would stop coming up with one line questions. Hardly quality stuff.

2:55 AM
@JohnP Franck's questions?

@JoeW Paywalls are an unfortunate fact of life. In scientific research, I would guess that 90% of new articles are behind a paywall. If a journal is reputable, and there is enough info in the abstract to answer the question in whole or in part, it should be acceptable as a source, as most people don't need more info than what is contained in the abstract.

@anongoodnurse I still disagree, with the way the Health site userbase is currently looking it looks like most users will not have access to those journals and even with an abstract available providing a link to a site that requires you to pay is the same as providing a broken link to someone without access.
And bad links are always an issue
and I have updated my answer

@JoeW - Any decent library or especially a university library will have the most common journals. I can spoon feed to a point, but somewhere along the line they have to pony up and do some work themselves.
Also, lets be honest. 95% of the people that will probably inhabit this site wouldn't understand anything more than the abstract anyway.
@michaelpri Yes.

3:05 PM
@JohnP As stated somewhere else we have a different appreciation of conciseness.

@FranckDernoncourt - There is concise, there is brevity and there is terseness. None of which really make for great questions, especially in a private beta where everything is being evaluated.
One line questions tend to promote one line answers.

@JohnP Half the time, people writing review articles don’t read more than the abstract anyway. ;-) The salient points are there, and I fully agree with you that it isn’t unreasonable to expect people to do some work (or ask for some help!) if they want more.
@JoeW Would you prohibit us from citing textbooks as well?

5:29 PM
@anongoodnurse I just added a note on my meta post on the topic in support of this point.

Q: Did we cross over into Physical Fitness?

Robert CartainoI am considering this question specifically: Why does walking/jogging seem to do so much more for you than only bicycling? When a question get into the mechanics of physical exercise choices or perhaps something like the merits of one exercise over another, I think we're starting to get away fr...

Hey, anyone on?

@JohnP I might be wrong but not everyone has easy access to a library with the journals
@Susan How would you cite a textbook on a site like this? For most people wouldn't that mean they have to take you at your word that your citation was correct and you didn't make and mistakes? Because if you are citing a textbook would that information be accessible if you don't have that text?
