When was the last time you had to solve a quadratic equation by hand? If, like me, you haven’t needed that particular skill since high school, then you’ve probably wondered what all that fuss was about! And it’s a good question: why did we spend so much time on those puzzling, formulaic second-degree beasts, using [...]

Does Lookup have special evaluation rules that cause it to try and "claim everything for itself"? example follows
I want Lookup[Gate[<|"ResultNode" -> 5|>], "ResultNode"] to return 5
Neither of the following seems to work
Gate /: Lookup[Gate[x_Association], y_] := Lookup[x, y]
Lookup[Gate[x_Association], y_] ^:= Lookup[x, y]
both evaluate fine
but I get Lookup::invrl: "The argument Gate[<|\"ResultNode\" -> 5|>] is not a valid Association or a list of rules" when I run Lookup[Gate[<|"ResultNode" -> 5|>], "ResultNode"]

@Vitaliy, only way that could be better is if an xkcd guy was doing the juggling…

finally found the answer to my Lookup question - it's already addressed at mathematica.stackexchange.com/questions/57794/…
does anyone know why Lookup has HoldAllComplete?
it's really annoying

@belisarius I have a small contribution there and I saw JM has some as well. Et tu, Brute?

@SjoerdC.deVries do you know anything about regions?
I want a simple thing: import two stl, and make the measure of the Boolean difference.
But the Dimensions of the imported STL are 2D. I spent 30 min trying to figure the steps to follow, but after 30 min, I'm filling quite...

@P.Fonseca not much really.

@SjoerdC.deVries thanks anyway :-)

8:59 PM
@SjoerdC.deVries Mathematica code there is almost always very low quality, so I thought they don't care much about it
@VitaliyKaurov Very nice :)

9:22 PM
@SjoerdC.deVries it is still not possible to do what I want. Lets hope it gets added soon...

when 10.2 was released did others reading this get an email advising of the release?
