How does one rotate ticks in ListPlot? Applying Rotate to the ticks themselves doesn't work because Ticks only accepts numbers.
hm labels should work
yep, I don't know what I was thinking.

Does anyone know that wheher the Mathematica owns the built-in function abot "difference quotient"

10:36 AM
@ShutaoTang Which function is "difference quotient" and also what do you mean by "own"?

11:17 AM
@MichaelHale CurrentValue["SelectionData"] is interesting. Didn't know that.
Phew! What a slew of 'no effort' questions today...

Hey folks, I am curious, I gave an answer to this post (below) that now one cares to answer or delete or "really" comment. I got no feedback or vote. Feel free to comment if this answer really does not contribute to the community. I personally think it is an interesting question.

Q: Comparing natural language strings

RPWI have a large spreadsheet with thousands of rows/columns of text. Some are saying essentially the same thing but in different ways. When you enter a natural language question Wolfram Alpha makes a good stab at 'understanding' what you enter. For example, 'how far is the sun from the earth' has...

@MichaelHale Nice !! I think it would fit well as an answer here : mathematica.stackexchange.com/q/70190/19960

OT - anyone familiar with web scraping? I'm working on a bus-tracker project and need to grab times from this website (for example). Not sure if M is a good fit for this job. It's an RPi project so if someone has pointers to a linux-based solution I'd be much obliged.

@bobthechemist Python has a package called splinter which allows automatic browser actions.
I used it several times and I think it's very easy to use.

3:51 PM
@xslittlegrass That's the type of solution I'm looking for, thanks for pointing me in this direction.

@bobthechemist I've played with Scrapy at some point in the past. Seems well designed

@acl Cool, I will give that a try as well, thanks

Someday, I'll get my computer back, and I'll be able to put Mathematica 10 on it...

any idea how to fix the origin. AxisOrigin->{0,0} does not seem to work for BoxWhiskerChart

@brama "fix" - what behavior were you expecting?

On Friday, February 20, I had the pleasure of giving a talk to a group of young and smart individuals enlisted to represent Barcelona in the Global Urban Datafest. For this hackathon, the organizers offered one Raspberry Pi platform per team and a variety of sensors to capture physical parameters. Their list of suggested project [...]

@Guesswhoitis. I am using Grid to group 4-BoxWhiskerChartsand I want the y-axis to be consistent across all 4 plots. As you can see it is not so on the attached picture.

How about fiddling with PlotRange?
(I do not have Mathematica on hand, so this is a guess.)

@Guesswhoitis. let me see

5:55 PM
@Guesswhoitis. It worked fine...Thanks

Thought so. :)

@SquareOne Cool. I'll add it when I'm back at the computer.

@Guesswhoitis. Honor your nickname. Don't think, just guess :)

@Guesswhoitis. Any idea how to define interval size on the axis when I use PlotRange

@SquareOne I added it. I realized there was a mistake with my demo though, lol. I was grabbing the hot network questions instead of the recent Mathematica questions. That's a problem with my reading comprehension though, not the feature.

9:24 PM
@MichaelHale yes, I saw your post and +1 ! Very useful feature, it should be included by default in mma. BTW, do you have any interesting link to how work CurrentValue, i tried to figure out once but ...
