@gnat I agree, the answer is incorrect even if it is coherent and not spam or other rubbish. I downvoted.

It is an interesting question and I look forward to seeing the answers but it feels like it might be better suited to programmers.stackexchange.com since it is more conceptual — Mike D. 57 secs ago

@JeremyC. this is an answer, not a comment :) Seriously, the question doesn't seem that bad to me. Of course it is obvious that he is a beginner, but hey is this site only for advanced programmers? — Josef Sábl just now

8:59 AM
@durron597 that's a bit harsh, isn't it? Odds are they didn't look at the tag blurb.

@Yannis how's it going over there? you surviving?

@QPaysTaxes This code can be argued either way, but would likely fall again into opinion-based. There are design concerns, but as Xanatos's answer demonstrates, there are also a handful of reasons to take a certain path. I still stand by the fact that it was opinion-based for this site though. Shame to think there isn't a place for this type of question, unless of course it is Programmers, but I haven't read the requirements there either recently. — Adam Houldsworth 10 secs ago

probably this is the newest question regarding licensing on meta. It is(/was?) on-topic on programmers.SE. (Though as I understand this question was about a font license, maybe that is also related to programming, but I am not sure.) — Gábor Bakos 15 secs ago

user114359
That interface is very enterprisey.

what is TsPropertyConfiguration?
the phrase "Property Configuration" scares me.

1:32 PM
It's one of those things that let you have 3000 hidden parameters on one critical, monolithic function

I can't tell you.
I think it's our own internal reflection mechanism for arbitrary data stores.

that sounds bad. It sounds "generic repository" bad.

we totally have generic repositories.

woohooo!

those bits aren't too bad.

1:33 PM
I made the mistake, once, of having my repositories be backed by generic repositories. That, in itself, isn't bad. As long as the generic repository isn't floating around the application you're OK.

nods

The bad thing is that the next round of developers really liked the Generic Repositories and used them willy nilly... without confining them to non-generic implementations.

As long you hide it under some DAO
At least it weren't floating SQL codes everywhere

@André exactly.

yeah, not so much here.
they're hidden under services
but the services just use them

HAY GUIZE THIS PERSON HAS A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION TO ASK
-17
Q: Reaching questions limit

Ankush RishiWhen you reach your question limit stackoverflow bans the account for further questionings but if the same user wants to share a very important question after being banned then I don't think it would be useful for other users also. What's the main purpose to make the reputation down of any user?

free-floating generic repositories make it really hard to refactor stuff donw the road.

I know, sadly

yeah, well having marker interfaces that aggregate 6 others makes stuff really hard to refactor.

@Telastyn That is the code equivalent of this: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/21?m=22408463#22408463

2:25 PM
@overexchange The same as any other domain with the word "cloud" in it.
Android's probably not going away any time soon, and despite the term being mostly marketspeak, there are some merits to "the cloud."

also, targeting your learning to be marketable (as opposed to knowledgeable) sounds like trouble.

It's in the view.
You can hide it, or you can go through and accept/reject changes to make them go away for good.

The Accept All and Reject All are dimmed. Why would that be?

That I don't know.
I don't think I've ever seen them dimmed before if the document had changes.

@durron597 that is probably why it is still open

> For those of you who are wondering about the code, first off I made a blatant error in my original post, then when everyone tried to point it out to me I cried like a girl, that's probably the reason for everyone down voted.

@GlenH7 If the person self deleted they'd pick up 68 rep
well, 66 i guess because an accepted answer +2 would disappear.

3:40 PM
@durron597 Have Internet at home now, so I should be able to put some time in during the evening starting tonight.

It would be enough for the view close votes privilege

Still doing the paperwork part of the release, but I'm not all hectic at work anymore. Just nice, steady days.

@ThomasOwens Hooray! Did you notice that I advanced the tags in the chat sidebar

Oh. Yeah.

I decided to do both of the next two together because there are so many fewer tags
Also because legal and copyright seem like they're going to be painful and require lots of editing.
@ThomasOwens By the way, you can delete the education and jobs answers now too, obviously, once you've put their tags in the blacklist list

3:44 PM
OK. I'll start to look tonight.

@ThomasOwens thx

I've updated the blacklist list.
Could you let me know if I've missed anything there?

@ThomasOwens Well that's good to know, I can't see deleted community wiki answers even if I have the most revs, if I was not the original poster.

@ThomasOwens So, my first thought is that, I believe, Stack Exchange policy is not to blacklist things that we don't think are going to be a problem of coming back

3:50 PM
Yeah. I suspect some won't be. But I want to capture them all in one post for now.

A: Implement a Tag Black List

Jeff AtwoodWe do have a blacklist, to be clear -- it's something the dev team has to enter because it's so dangerous to get wrong. We work with the existing site moderators to determine what's bad enough to be blacklisted. It has to be quite bad. And yes we are still planning to implement tag synonym rema...

Do we want to sort into "high priority" and "low priority"?
What do we think about and ? should they be in STCI? @GlenH7 @MichaelT @ThomasOwens @gnat

user41796
So I'd vote that both could safely get kicked into this round of STCI

@ThomasOwens I added to the blacklist list. I don't have the list of career in front of me anymore (not 10k), maybe you or @GlenH7 could take a look

A: Structured Tag Cleanup Initiative Phase II

durron597junior-programmer senior-developer At first I wasn't sure if these needed cleaning, until @GlenH7 and I looked at the questions and found a bunch of underwhelming questions. Both questions are around 40% closed already, not a good sign.

Pro-tip - if you're going to show up in CA casual for your interview, you better be able to knock it out of the park.

@GlenH7 CA casual?
Like, flipflops and ripped jeanshorts?

user41796
@durron597 close

@GlenH7 wifebeater?

user41796
4:37 PM
Collared, buttoned shirt. But ... a bit tattered

user41796
That faux pre-faded / pre-distressed type look

user41796
@durron597 Do you remember your quandary on trying to figure out exactly what to wear when you were in NY? Let's just say today's candidate had none of those challenges from what I can tell.

@GlenH7 I went with a tucked in Polo, slacks, loafers and my good belt
at least one of my interviewers looked like he was still in his pjs

Speaking of belts, why does my brown belt have the color scraping off in parts while my black belt doesn't?
I don't understand.

I think I could have worn pjs and no one would have cared.
@ThomasOwens same brand / manufacturer?

4:43 PM
@durron597 Yeah.

user114359
@durron597 I was at a customer's office one time and there was a guy who showed up in sweatshirt and sweatpants every day

user114359
Another guy wore a suit every day and he was just a regular guy, not a C-level or manager.

ah, crap, this question is on-topic on "programmers" but off-topic on stackoverflow, I just read meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/274963/… this is so confusing (why two forums? can this question be moved there?) — cap 40 secs ago

@ThomasOwens Weird.

user41796
4:58 PM
@ThomasOwens Holes might be in different absolute positions, so to fasten the brown belt it rubs against the buckle a bit more

user41796
@durron597 And you had been smart enough to ask the recruiter what expectations were - then you dressed to expectations.

@GlenH7 Yeah, I would not dream of wearing a polo to an interview at your company.

user41796
It's all about meeting expectations.

Your company, the way you've described it in the past, would be suit mandatory (for me, anyway)

user41796
I'd agree. Anything less than that and you've put off about half of your interviewers for the day

user41796
5:00 PM
It's a stodgy environment, no two ways about it.

Rule of thumb: if none of your interviewers are wearing jeans or below, wear a suit.

user41796
Yep

There's nearly no harm in bringing a suit/tie, you can always take off the tie if you decide the culture is "not that formal" and a suit/no tie dressshirt looks pretty casual (higher end of business casual for sure)
and you can take the coat off if you still feel awkwardly too dressed up

user41796
Or you can just demand that all of the interviewers step up their level of dress to match yours. :-D

@enderland At google my recruiter specifically told me that flipflops and a hawaiian shirt would be fine
I think there can be harm in being much more formal than your recruiters. I wanted to be "professional but not pretentious"
I don't consider a suit to be "much more formal" than an office that requires no jeans and a buttondown
But I do in an office where I get interviewers in comic book tshirts and hoodies. IIRC three of my interviewers were wearing a hoodie.

user41796
5:12 PM
I think his comment was more towards when you didn't have a chance to ask the interviewer what expectations are.

user41796
And you ought to be able to take the company's line of business into account in order to determine what the norm is.

@GlenH7 Bank = suit

user41796
Absolutely

user41796
And for some roles, I'd expect a vest to be appropriate too

user41796
"How many zeros after the leading significant digit? Sure, I can put on a vest with the suit for an interview..."

5:15 PM
I can't imagine an interview where a vest would be mandatory
I can imagine freshly polished shoes being required
But ultimately, developers aren't customer facing

user41796
[E|S|?]VP of top end investment brokerage?

Even in a bank.
Oh, I thought we were talking developer interviews only

user41796
Nah, I don't think a dev would ever pull a 7 digit salary

You have no idea what Eric Lippert makes ;)

user41796
5:17 PM
True. Very true.

user41796
And Skeet can afford to write technical books (generally a losing proposition), so he's got to have some backing too. :-)

user41796
I'm pretty certain I'll never be working at the level that either Eric or Jon do.

Lippert got outbid by someone away from 16 years of being a key visual studio dev
to poach someone that senior at microsoft? His company makes C# analyzers... they need someone with very specific, internal knowledge skills

Eric Lippert works for Coverity now?

5:29 PM
Wow. Coverity is a really nice tool.
Really, really expensive, though.
If you have an OSS project, though, they'll scan it for free every so often.

@ThomasOwens They have to pay Eric.

So many scans per unit of time.
@durron597 Haha. True.

5:54 PM
Hi Manan, I understand that you have already done some research on this topic, but this site (SO) is specifically for solving programming/coding or software development tools questions... Your question may be related to the latter, but basically, people voted that you should "improve your question", so I suggest you to try to ask this in the stackexchange programmers site, maybe there you will have a better answer. Good luck! — Armfoot 39 secs ago

@ThomasOwens - yeah, been like 2-3 years now. He was on a call with my company when we were looking at it.

Any scrum experts around to answer a question

@André Waterfall is the opposite of what I want to know ;)

6:08 PM
haha I know

depends what type of scrum you are doing, are you doing "management wanted agile so we modified waterfall into a two week planning cycle" types of scrum?

@enderland I'm doing "we had one cowboy programmer doing whatever the f he pleased and now we have a second programmer so it's time to start behaving"

sounds like you need a rodeo

I am also entirely in charge of what we're going to start doing
@enderland Good thing we live in Houston.

PERFECT

6:10 PM
@enderland It's in March, though. I did go to this years. rodeohouston.com

6:27 PM
But it is strongly related to programming because I would like to know if there are any specific examples of binary trees being used by programmers in their programs - so who better to ask than programmers. I will remove if others share the view above but I believe that people on this site are best placed to answer. — sw123456 13 secs ago

Duga's question looks like a good candidate for migration to Programmers.

@RobertHarvey Asking for examples? :-/
It would need an edit.

Not exactly. You'd only need one.

> and if so what examples are there of their uses?

That's a red herring. He's looking for guidance on where binary trees (that is, trees with only two children) would be used. He's not trying to build a list of things.

6:38 PM
@RobertHarvey I agree, that's why I said it needs an edit.

Better?

nods

OK for migration now?

@RobertHarvey NOW it's okay.

seems OK to me

6:44 PM
@RobertHarvey There, I even threw a flag on for you.

Migrated.

@GlenH7 indeed. This one was in the top 5 I've gotten.

@durron597 I've got the option for 9/80 days as well; the extra hours just don't fit my schedule though. He's got me beat for total vacation time though

@MichaelT At job^^, I really learned the meaning of "mediocracy" for a work environment

Finally got the dual boot for my mac all working with networking and wireless
Setting up a dev environment from scratch is always a fun fresh sensation, all clean, all yours, all right
@MichaelT should I stick with the bootcamp drivers for the graphics card, or do you think the standard modern nvidia catalyst are as good as anything else for the nvidia in this macbook?

user55340
10:21 PM
Unless there is overwhelming reason to do so, I'd stick with the boot camp drivers to have a better known state.

user55340
FWIW, I use crossover rather than vm or dual boot. It works for the things I need it to. Probably would not be happy with a dev env.

user55340
(Crossover is a wrapper around windows apps that translates syscalls into mac syscalls)

oh
yeah, I suspect visual studio would dump a load. To be entirely honest, I'm relatively fine with Mac's save for the keyboard bindings, and lack of consistent unified package management. I find it basically like linux except slightly less consistent and flexible
the key bindings are the biggest problem... ctrl+arrow should skip words, not alt, and windows+c/v/x are absolutely the wrong copy, paste, cut combos. Home/end go to beginning/end of line not page and ctrl+home/end go to beginning/end of page
