Toby Booth has unfrozen this room.

I have never used a chat room in SE but I was invited to join by a Poker Moderator

@Paparazzi Re: our Hand converter chat, see these Q's/A's

http://meta.poker.stackexchange.com/search?q=hand+converter

Specifically,
http://meta.poker.stackexchange.com/q/3/88
and the end of my answer meta.poker.stackexchange.com/a/136/88
Its a way to convert online hand hstories, from their raw format into a forum friendly format. Its the core driver of posts at other, bigger forums (eg twopluwtwo)

i am here guys

cool

i am not sure the needs Paparazzi has, I have to actually review even the calculations I usually make when playing, but I feel this is an interesting project, even when just thinking the needs

8:08 PM
Members began this discussion with Stackexhange staff a long time ago and we've had little input since. They gave us markdown for Suit symbols but that is all.

(coding basic mathematical stuff is straightforward on every language)

I use Equilab for equity calculations

well, I gave two posts about probabilities and few hints of how to code them. with that in mind, even the most newbie programmer BUT already good poker player with knowledge of equities, can make a good equity calculator command line

The other tool to use would be Flopzilla (Not free)

Paparazziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

8:12 PM
Toby I get a hand convert would be nice but please show me an example of anywhere in SE where an application is hosted. It would be easy enough to do in like HTML5. It has been a few years since I did Web. I am a .NET WPF guy.

(Even a Python command line would work; my preference right now would be an Ionic app xD please don't kill me...)

It doesnt have to be a plugin, just has to spit out hands in a format we like. Can be hosted anywhere

well, let me think

@LuisMasuelli If you think make a good command line equity calculator then go for it. I don't even see how you could reduce it to a command line interface.

honestly i don't know, but I don't either know what kind of equity calculation do you want to do. you want to calculate regular equity on the power of your hand? or also related equities like e.g. estimated fold equities?

8:16 PM
@TobyBooth I don't follow. I think the current markup for a card works fine.
@LuisMasuelli Look at the link of what I said I am looking for something like this Mac tool. You enter a range for your opponent and get an equity.

@Paparazzi I agree, it does. That on its own is not a HH converter. Do you play online? Serious Q just to be sure, Do you know what a "Hand History" is? (ie. Basic text file formed after playing hands online)
@Paparazzi Equilab, or Flopzilla

aaaah. sorry i dont have mac. will i be able to see the description anyway or should i use it to understand the scope you tell about?
the metric i'd use is:
- a preliminar brute force testing the odds like I did in the articles.
- a regular classification of hole cards as in PokerStrategy document.
- an average calculation of the powers for those classifications given a sampling the player plays, or the lowest played value in the lower classification.
- take the current pot size and voilah! equity
that... or i will wait to have a mac and test the app you mentioned xD

@LuisMasuelli Luis. Use the "reply" at the end of the chat-thread you're responding to. Otherwise its difficult to follow, thanks. ;)

@TobyBooth sorry, I am not used to this chat

@LuisMasuelli Perfect. Thankyou.

8:29 PM
New topic: how could we broadcast this network among players who are not programmers? most poker.SE members are programmers since they know the site by also visiting StackOverflow. Does SE network or staff care about things like this?

@LuisMasuelli They do care but as the users they (rightfully) see it as our responsibility. I spread the wrod as broadly as possible, have done for years.

So I will take the same approach by doing it word-by-word. Do not have a poker blog to do it there. Perhaps I can have few office mates who play with me enter here

@TobyBooth Yes I know what hand history is. Equilab is an answer to my posted question on advanced equity calculator. I just would not call it a hand history. I don't get how they run the calcs that fast.

8:47 PM
@TobyBooth Your original question was "hand converter". I took as plug in 5 cards or 2 card plus board and name the hand. Hand history is something different to me. I feel like you are getting a bit snarky with me. Sorry I could not be of help.

No snark intended.

Hand analysis is done with tools like Equilab/Flopzilla.

Hand conversion is the common terminology used when changing raw text into forum friendly formats.

Poker.SE would benefit a lot from having somewhere to convert hand histories. If you, or someone you know can do that, even just let the StackExchange staff know how useful it would be to drive traffic here, that would be great.

9:11 PM
@TobyBooth If I can scrap some time in my day, I will see if I can somehow start thinking about an app like this. @Paparazzi... what I described could be seen as addressing your needs? Or did I misunderstood the problem?
