I can post that, or if anybody has better ideas, let me know.

@MonicaCellio Thanks for putting that together! How about "Expanded and revised" instead of "Updated"? Maybe put the book title in italics? The words may look better in bold.

12:56 PM
@MonicaCellio Where's the picture from? If you just took it, i might recommend staples instead of a binder clip, unless you really don't want staple holes in all those papers.
@Scimonster @IsaacMoses And if it's just runs over, we can always play with margins and font size.

1:11 PM
@IsaacMoses ^^^ Some trade-offs on "expanded and revised": to avoid the ampersand I would have needed to shrink the font; maybe it would look better with the & on the next line and "expanded" centered over it; could gain more room by omitting the year but I wanted to keep it for a first pass. Opinions?
@Scimonster I took it last summer when we needed pictures for the Jewcer campaign. (That's why it contains no matzah etc -- out of season.) Last time I printed the haggadot myself and I don't have an industrial stapler so I used binder clips; that's also why the cover is B&W. (I don't have a color printer.) If I re-stage the photo I can add some regular-size staples but I don't know if it's worth redoing just for that.
Besides (she says in post-facto justification), the binder clip conveys a heftier document than household staples would, don't you think? :-)

@MonicaCellio I think it's good

2:24 PM
@IsaacMoses thanks. Now, when should I post it? It'll need to collect 6 votes to go into circulation (don't know how long that will take); once it has the votes it'll be live and that could be before we have the new edition. So, timing is non-obvious.
If it goes live before we have a PDF we could always edit the meta post to say "new edition coming soon". I suppose we might want to do that anyway?

2:56 PM
I think we ought to make sure that each list item is either understandable as-is or at least has a reference to more information. Stylistically, I think it's look best if each item is about a line long, and is as close as possible to being singable, with explanations either following in parentheses or in a footnote. — Isaac Moses yesterday
^^^ I've made a pass through the first 26 of these for this, but I didn't tackle the last few. Anybody else care to take a look?

@MonicaCellio I think just edit the existing post to use it, and get someone to give the required 6th vote. Should be easier than 6 new votes.

@Scimonster I just noticed that the existing post is back up to 6 votes (net). It's also the most-viewed of our current ads, surprisingly. Huh. Is it kosher to replace it like this? CC @IsaacMoses

3:13 PM
@MonicaCellio You did leave a comment there to that effect.
I'll happily defer to a better ad when we have one. But for now, this is about where my abilities are... — Monica Cellio ♦ Jan 29 at 3:47

One possibility would be to have five ad images -- a general one (this or an update to the spread-on-table layout from last year) and one for each publication, and swap in seasonal ones. So when we're not close to a covered holiday we'd run the general ad, and we'd update the image pointer throughout the year as seems appropriate. This would need to be clear to voters.

@Scimonster that's true; I did suggest rotating ads. I don't remember getting a lot of support for that, but I also don't recall any objections, so I'd be willing to count that as license to do it here -- swap in the haggadah ad for a few weeks and then revert to the generic one later. (Or a better generic one, if someone makes one.) And then swap in a Days of Awe ad in Elul.

@MonicaCellio I said then that I'm not sure it's worth the job of swapping every season. It does seem like a nice idea to swap to promote a new publication. I'd suggest changing the landing page now to have "H-MY 2nd Ed. Coming soon" at the tip

I will b"n try to get v0.2 of the doc done tonight
I made the style change last night so that H1 doesn't get a new page, and as estimated, it brought the doc down to 48 pages. I'm going to tweak it some more - taking out the decorative separators when they come right before an H1 and then adjusting the pre-H1 whitespace to look nice

7:20 PM
@IsaacMoses done.

@MonicaCellio thanks

8:16 PM
@MonicaCellio Can you superping TRiG and see if he's interested in proofreading?

8:30 PM
@Scimonster He already proofread 3/4 of this doc, FWIW

@Scimonster I can ask him if he's willing to proofread the new content, at least. If he says yes will you be able to give him a list of page numbers/sections in the PDF (after Isaac makes it)?
@TRiG I hope this superping isn't invasive. We're working on a second edition of Hagada - Mi Yodeya?, adding some new material, and are wondering if you might be available to proofread the new content? Probably about 10-12 pages' worth.

8:59 PM
@MonicaCellio we could just give him a list of Q #s to search for.

@IsaacMoses true. We should at least put it in order for him.

9:26 PM
@MonicaCellio on second thought, he works with pen and paper, so ctrl-f targets would be much inferior to page numbers

@IsaacMoses oh right; I forgot how he edits. (I prefer to edit with pen and paper too; something about the different medium leads me to spot things that I'd miss on-screen.) I don't always do it, though.

10:07 PM
@MonicaCellio Hi.
@Scimonster I'm always interested in proofreading. ;)

@TRiG great, thanks! Isaac is working on the next draft (we gave him a bunch of feedback on the one that's pinned in this room). When he has the next one up we'd love to have you apply your sharp eye to the new material.
About 75% of the volume is from the first edition, which you proofread for us three years ago. We didn't intentionally change any of that other than some formatting improvements and a sweep for divine names.
But that other 25% or so is brand new.
(Scimonster is in Israel, BTW, so you probably won't hear back from him until his (and your) morning.)

@MonicaCellio Israel time is closer to Ireland time than Ireland time is to US Eastern time.

@DoubleAA yes, that's why I said "his (and your) morning". I'll likely be asleep, but I don't matter in this exchange. :-)

10:48 PM
@MonicaCellio Is there a deadline for this? I'll certainly not get anything done in the morning, but I might in the evening. Or weekend.

11:13 PM
@TRiG @Scimonster should have the final word on what we should shoot for, but if you can proofread between tomorrow morning and Saturday night, inclusive, I can probably incorporate your edits by Sunday night. Sooner for both steps is better, of course
