I kinda felt I had to answer that one even though there are repeated references to the idea already and actually good answers to the exact question asked.

@Mσᶎ I passed that question by several times before I stopped and looked at it. Its not something I have any interest in whatsoever but it is such a well-written question I thought it deserved an upvote.
And, yeah, I think there's a lesson there in "never say never".
Because cycling is so common here, the shops have quite fashionable "girly" designs. At home cycling is more macho, if you want panniers they have to be black.
But 95% of the cycling here is sit-up-and-beg. I suspect if you wanted a road bike, for example, you'd need to travel to find a specialist shop. Which, again, is unlike home. I suppose the markets are different
The panniers are the same kind of material as, say. a wipe-clean tablecloth. So they should hose clean it it came to it. But yeah, can't get that at home.
