@Criggie be grateful. It was only about 30 yesterday, but 90% humidity. I got home had a cold shower, got out and was sweating again by the time I got to the kitchen. Bah!

batman: new clip? Just knot it in place.

i could. but with safety devices, i'd rather have them at manufacturer spec

helmuts...pbbbfdt

when you live in a place with a lot of young drivers, its a nice thing to have.

If your city/town/area doesn't provide separation between you and stupid drivers, it's time to move. Fairbanks "BFE" Alaska has a significant network of bike paths to keep me away from the hundreds of Southerns in big trucks that get shipped up here every year, completely unprepared to drive on ice.
I was down in Ann Arbor, MI recently which is touted as "bicycle friendly". I am scured now. That place is a shit hole of unmarked bike lanes and sidewalks that end in curbs randomly.
If I lived there I would just take the bus, because apparently "bicycle friendly" just means no one there is trying to kill you on purpose.

12:19 AM
we have a bunch of college kids who havent had significant driving experience, are distracted on their phones
and a lot of girls drive suvs/crossovers
and they're too short to see the sides of the vehicle i think

Lots of that here as well. But like 75% or the commute I used to have to work had a fence inbetween me and traffic. The rest was in neighborhoods.

also, people shouldn't be learning to drive in things like BMW M3's
(lots of rich foreign kids)

it's not any better in a brand new F150 with no weight in the back
and not switched into 4 wheel drive

that being said, its hillarious to see a bmw spin
from the lights
except for when you're on a bicycle riding along.
in the snow.

I've seen a lot of Dodge Rams and new F150s suddenly start doing doughnuts when trying to make a left onto the highway.
Like I said. Fence :)

12:24 AM
yeah..

Less power is more power.
I drive a shitty 43 year old 4wd
all the computation is in the driver :)

12:55 AM
On a completely different topic ... I've decided that the Cunning Linguist is really a Troll ...
Oops, it's Errant ...

1:11 AM
I dunno.... what makes you think that ?
and cunning lingust is that Irish national aeroline right ?
airline
why are airplane and aeroplane okay, but aeroline just isn't where airline is ?

See? He's trolling us even here!

1 hour later…
2:31 AM
A $15 BMX and guy is asking "was this stolen?" Nah, bro, you just found an amazing philanthropist who just dresses like a drug addict. I'm inclined to flag it as off topic ... but on the other hand, that sort of question with a chorus of "stolen, you arsehole" may help future crime supporters.

haha

Heh "will running a 12 speed derailleur on an 11 speed system work perfectly" ... "no, 11 and 12 speed systems never work perfectly even brand new in the shop" (I am old and cynical)

I wonder if we'll see some kind of size-adapting cassette
where there are only ~8 cogs, but the chain moves back and forth, and the cogs expand so they have a small or large position

what

when in "large" there are 4-6 pie slices with two "virtual" teeth missing
way too mechanical

2:41 AM
we can barely get 11 speed or 12 speed mechanical shifting working properly.
let alone that which is more complex

roll on the pinion gearbox

3:05 AM
@Criggie old school, brah, that's old school
was used for an "automatic bike" in the 1970's IIRC.
Management have a new thing where they ask questions, insist it's important and urgent... then run away. Presumably they have learned to keep the maniacal cackling inside their heads. By the time I have an answer they have left the building.

So track them down
go after them
turn up at the country club in the middle of second lunch and drop the answer in their soup

3:27 AM
I did something almost as funny. While testing something using his phone I set a custom ringtone on my contact. So now when I ring him he gets a really awful siren sound. soundbible.com/1937-Tornado-Siren-II.html

hehe

When I ring him, he knows. Now what he has to find out is how to remove the custom ringtone :)

I had a motorola flip back in the day... it had exactly one ring tone, and every phone sounded the same.

The funny part is that apparently his phone was on the seat in the car, so it took him a while to find it. And the ringtone played through the speakers in the car. So next time I'm going to use an Oz police siren noise. I reckon he will pull over before he realises it's his phone.
This is about the third time this week... it's Tuesday. It's the third time in the last day and a half, that he's done this.

He drives too much

3:36 AM
The good thing about that is that he does a lot of the customer support. He answers the support phone maybe 1/3 of the time (it's effectively 2nd or 3rd tier support), sometimes more. So he knows where the customer pain points are. And he does site visits when there are major issues. But that also leads to "quick answer this {runs for the door}"
