Q: How can I write a good custom close message?

MichaelTWe only have so many canned, built in, close reasons. There are so many other reasons to close something at times - giving a better message than trying to shoehorn the reason to close something into too broad or primarily opinion. Custom close messages have the significant advantage when it com...

Q: Close Votes review: I'm going on a strike!

ShaiI know this question is going to make me unpopular here - but I feel I have no other options. I have been concerned by the size of the close votes review queue for quite a while. When I started reviewing (less than a year ago) this queue already had ~30K questions pending review. Time passes an...

@gnat did you see my epic comments in that one (I realized I wasn't getting anywhere)

@MichaelT will check (I am out of comment votes today, planned checking tomorrow). But I just saw a truly epic answer
what a bunch of bull* "Having a small queue would hamper blah blah" - as far as I can tell, only CV queues you have experience with are SO and MSO, there's no way you know how it works when short. I for comparison work in Programmers and Workplace queues (besides SO/MSO) - and per my experience, it's not even close to what you are talking about. 14 downvotes at this "answer" look well justified — gnat 1 min ago

you can run out of comment votes?

@enderland easy peasy

@enderland Its like 30 or 40 or 50 per day... and when you have a super comment MSO question...

at MSO I run over limit once a week or two
it's political tool over there

wow. I guess I've never come close

user55340
Shoot, if you just up vote all my comments in that question you'd likely use half your comment votes for the day... and I think that nearly all my comments in that question have up votes.

@MichaelT well so far I found at least 4 worth voting up :)
@Servy I am saying that a queue that is growing in length for things to be handled is detrimental to the quality of the site and impacts the quality of other sites (people reposting questions that don't get migrated timely). That is the key point I am trying to communicate. The front end manager should call up more cashiers to work - when we are volunteers it means adding incentives or finding ways to help people do the reviews in a less painful way (notifications akin to the suggested edit review, easier filtering, etc...). — MichaelT 1 hour ago

I'm trying to figure out a way to phrase this as something that won't be an attack... he doesn't touch the cv queue: stackoverflow.com/users/1159478/servy?tab=activity

10:43 PM
don't bother?

user55340
He's saying "there are no problems with the queue" but he hasn't gone into a close vote review queue in over a month... it impacts us here when things aren't closed timely there.

you linked the wrong part of his profile btw

user55340
@enderland My last hit tab on there was reviews, thus its the 'default' one when I bring up the activity page...

user55340
so it was the right one for me...

@Servy you seem to have a lot of opinions on the close vote queue for someone who doesn't seem to use it. I didn't see any votes in your review history either. — enderland 6 secs ago

guys, would someone be so kind to put a (minor) bounty on that question? I'd like to experiment with how it would fly now. I'd put it myself, but am already at limit with three and won't be able to release for 11 loooong hours

Q: How to tag questions related to size of Close Votes review queue at Stack Overflow?

gnatQuestions related to size of Close Votes review queue at Stack Overflow are rather popular*, how to tag these? Of existing tags, the following seem to apply: review (1,5K+ questions in tag) For questions about the /review path where users can view and act on posts by other users that t...

nevermind I figured a reasonable bumping edit for it

user55340
@enderland I think mine was a bit tamer...

user55340
@Servy while I could be drastically wrong I am of the understanding that the two major reasons that people don't partake in the close vote review queue for people who are otherwise active in the community for the site are: (1) the painfulness/not fun nature of doing reviews and (2) a philosophical disposition that things need to remain open. Failing that, I have difficulty understanding why active community members don't do reviews. If you have any insight that would helping me gain understanding into the minds of those people, I really would like to hear it. — MichaelT 6 mins ago

I haven't been participate in the site almost at all, but I do little review because it is time consuming to do reasonably well and also painfully dull. I admit it needs doing - but lots of more important things also need doing.

How did this guy get 325 rep in one day, 305 a couple days later, and tends to frequently get well over 200 in a given day?
@psr Yeah, nobody else is going to write a MUMPS macro expander if you don't get on it
holy crap martijn pieters gets over 300 rep every single day
what in hells
I don't understand anything. I'm going to go back to coding.
