Q: Marshmallow Mistakes

user8730From my shul's kashrus guidelines: Products from Israel, under rabbinical supervision, are reliable! However, you must make sure that the product does not contain gelatin (even "kosher" gelatin). The rabbinate in Israel accepts a different standard regarding gelatin than we do in America. If ...

Is this question about gelatin, about the authority of the Israeli rabbinate, or about interacting with one's rabbi? I think it's the last of these, so the whole business with gelatin and the Israeli rabbinate are likely to distract readers and answerers from the point. I recommend editing those aspects out of the question, leaving only the essential question about challenging one's rabbi, and possibly posting questions on those topics separately.

@isaacmoses I feel it is better for people to see the thing in it's whole context then separate

You can include the context as motivation if you really want to (though I maintain that it is likely to be a distraction), but it should be clearly distinguished from the actual question, so people know what it is you want answered.

@isaacmoses it is that's why it is in parenthesis

I've edited your question to clarify your intent, and voted to reopen. If I misunderstood your intent, please do edit to clarify further.

@shokhet I was saying he made an error in kashrus by say kolatin is made from fish, when in fact it is made from cow

So edit your question, then! ....important information belongs in the post, not in the comments. The information is much more visible, that way.
I can't retract my reopen vote, but I would if I could. Your edit does nothing to clarify the question. I would advise you to remove all unnecessary info and just ask your question, simply and clearly. "A certain rabbi made a scientifically inaccurate statement about gelatin in the context of kashrus, does halacha require me to correct his mistake?"

@shokhet, that's what I did now
@shokhet I did what I have to do

@shokhet I can't cause I don't have 20 credits

@user8730 You should be able to chat now. Try it in that room!
That site is super pretentious. Rather disgusting in fact that they act as if the poskim who permit Nevela derived gelatin (eg. R Ovadia Yosef Z"L) are not "real".

4:01 PM
@user8730 I checked, and you have the ability to talk in this room. Why don't you come on down so we can sort this out?

@shokhet it still doesn't allow me in the chatroom

hm, that's odd....can you see the room? ....you might have to click on the log in button to start talking?

@shokhet I did click on it still says I need 20 credits

But you have 20 rep. Maybe post a bug report on Meta? ...ask a question with the relevant information, and use the tag bug

@shokhet it is a hassle though

4:03 PM
@user8730 All right. Can you chat in this room?

@Shokhet now I can

Hi! :)

@Shokhet it was a pain in the a** but hey I did it anyway

@user8730 Glad you could make it :)
@user8730, what exactly are you trying to accomplish with this question? What would you like to know?
I'm having a hard time understanding your question.

@Shokhet that u shouldn't trust him as a reliable rabbi for about informing about kashrus

4:16 PM
@user8730 Is that a question, or a statement?

@Shokhet it's for u to decide

@user8730 Okay, let's make something clear, right now. Mi Yodeya is not a discussion forum (1, 2). Hence, question posts are for questions, and answer posts are for answers. Do you have a question you'd like to ask?

@shokhet Do people agree with me that he is not reliable, I feel it is in a way both a question and a discussion in one

@user8730 I don't know who this person is. You should probably ask a rabbi who does know who this person is whether or not you can rely on his hashgacha. Besides, MY doesn't do practical halachic questions, so if you're asking whether or not you can rely on him, the question is off-topic, anyway

4:38 PM
This question seems entirely based in lashon hara and lacking a question. What are the reopen votes about?

5:20 PM
@CharlesKoppelman here is the link to the rabbi's kashrus guidelines sites.google.com/site/tiferetisraelorg/our-community/…

5:47 PM
@CharlesKoppelman My reopen vote was from when I thought I understood the question, and edited it. Unfortunately, I can't retract that vote.
@user8730 So it seems you don't have a question to ask here, so the question will stay closed, I think.

@user8730 A poll is not a valid question here.

Try and ask questions whose answers generally involve facts, references, or specific expertise; do not ask questions that will likely solicit opinion, debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion.

6:03 PM
@Shokhet @user8730 That's not a problem, it just means that this question won't get answers. Even moderators sometimes ask a question that gets closed as "off-topic." I hope you'll stick around and enjoy MY, within the boundaries of what's considered on-topic for this site.

@user8730 I'm confused why that's relevant. You already have that link in the question.

6:29 PM
@CharlesKoppelman that was about kolatin
