AnwarYou cannot install Ubuntu using these softwares, because those will only run after Windows is loaded. But, you need to run Ubuntu without loading any OS.

Guys is multiseat support in Ubuntu available but with 1 video card that has 2 or more output connections?

@LuisAlvarado have u check this?

No, but the thing is, that is from 2005, the chances that it works in 12.04 or 12.10 are very remote since I just checked the ways of doing it for 2006, 2008 and 2010 and none of them work.

@LuisAlvarado im not sure about it. better try ot 1st

thanks buddy

Q: minimal gnome classic on a mini.iso ubuntu 12.04

amrI installed ubuntu 12.04 from the mini.iso I want the most minimal classic gnome possible, all I ever need is a terminal, wireless connection, chromium and mid-night commander. No video or audio players no office no nautilus and no other applications. How can this be achieved? I also don't want a...

is it possible without gdm or lightdm?

6:10 PM
I guess not
chromium will require a window session manager
so one could try xface or that sort of things
or gdm or lightdm

@rafalcieslak 1st they should learn what gdm or lightdm do.

@penreturn yeah

or else install ubuntu server and browse internet using cli \o/

'I want chromium to run in lynx2 mode' :D

@penreturn classic gnome is no longer going to be supported. they need to pick another light DE

6:13 PM
@rafalcieslak hahhaha nonsense

/me is trying out openbox

I thing I might recommend them DSL distro

damn small linux? wew

i sort of like this theme...thinking about an always on bottom fullscreen webkit undecorated window with an animated hex pattern instead of that wallpaper though. it would be skeksi

@aking1012 nice!

6:18 PM
is this too brutal or not?
so you're asking for a menu button in nm-applet that forces an iwlist wlan0 scan - file it as a wishlist bug — aking1012 1 min ago

depends on the reader.

also depends on their mood :D

Q: I want to Uninstall Ubuntu 12.04 From A Dual Boot With Windows 8 Consumer Preview?

RyanLast time I did this I was on windows 7 so I just repaired the MBR with EasyBCD but when I try there is no option for Windows 8, Only Windows 7. So my question is how do I repair the MBR without the installation CD.

errmm

Not OT exactly IMO.
we handled similar questions earlier.

hehehehehe

@Mahesh yes, but consumer preview will expire. see my answer

6:23 PM
@aking1012 yup true!

Q: How can I improve overall system performance?

Decio LiraWhat are your tips for improving overall system performance on ubuntu? Inspired by this question I realized that some default settings may be rather conservative on Ubuntu and that it's possible to tweak it with little or no risk if you wish to make it faster. This is not meant to be application...

they mention preload in the question...sounds like what the OP wants

6:29 PM
I've tried preload but I did not observe any significant speedup.

it's supposedly adaptive/learns what you use most. i haven't tried it, but lots of people like it

going to install

@all please close alpha questions as duplicate of askubuntu.com/questions/18641/… instead of off-topic

hehhe you should already know when you choose to use alpha or beta release

@penreturn you'ld think so...but you'ld be wrong
about half way to another gold badge...

6:35 PM
@aking1012 yeahh...
cant see any gold badge T..T

alright, my problem is with X... anyone knowledgable in this matter?

depends on the problem...speak on it and see if you get any suggestions from me or anyone else...

it fails to start, it gives up with error "Screens found, but none have a usable configuration"

this guy and this guy is the guy? o..O

@jokerdino good morning

how ya
@msPeachy apt file for what?

@msPeachy not to my knowledge
@jokerdino good morning

hi

10:15 PM
@jokerdino I'm not looking for it, i am reviewing and someone said download the .apt file, maybe it should be deb file

there are apt config files

i see
but if it is to be run via software center then it must be a .deb file, right?

i am not sure.
haven't used software center for so long

okay

i wonder how to delete first couple of columns using unix tools
if i can do it, my conky setup would be done

10:19 PM
@msPeachy yes it would be a deb file

@RolandTaylor thank you
how's Lugaru?

o.O

@msPeachy boring
I quit it cause one level is too hard to beat sometimes

lol
brb, will make breakfast

brb, will eat breakfast
if you can figure a way to cut first 10 columns, ping me :D

10:22 PM
lol

will have to let my breakfast sit for 5 minutes before I can eat it.

If only more applications took advantage of delta updates.
I'm pretty sure I dropped in here the other day to mention that the results from the Community Vote were in?

@msPeachy it's too hot?
@GeorgeEdison yes
@GeorgeEdison Delta updates landed in Ubuntu?

No.
(I wish.)

Oh (whew I thought I had missed something big)

10:36 PM
They'll land in Debian long before Ubuntu when (if) that ever happens.

@RolandTaylor yes, it is.

Unless Ubuntu totally drops Debian packaging.
@RolandTaylor What did you think of the results of the vote?

@GeorgeEdison e_e

(Be honest :P)

You don't want my honest opinion, trust me :)

10:37 PM
Well, now that it's all over... I have a few things to say.

(In other words, I was too dumbfounded to formulate a useful opinion)

I will begin with some facts.

@msPeachy when it's like that, I sometimes pop it into the freezer for a few seconds (well only rarely, my family hates when I do that lol) :D

1. Picsaw came in #125 in votes. The judges picked it third.

yikes

10:39 PM
@RolandTaylor lol, it might break my favorite mug

2. The judges feedback for OrthCal:

@msPeachy lol definitely can't risk that!

> "Did not do much other than show a dialog, would not start from the Dash"
> "Learnt about Christian orthodox beliefs using this calendar"

@GeorgeEdison I can give a pretty good reason why "it didn't work".
But I would be thrown out of the temple of humanism (the chat) for my ideas.

Well... I really was disappointed in the way things ended up happening finally.
First of all, we were supposed to be using the ratings API to vote.
...not some third-party survey system.

10:41 PM
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
That system was the very reason I didn't vote.
It was confusing.

So there was incredible potential for abuse.

Plus, more than half the applications I had never used.

I have some stats to show... one sec...
Wow... a lot of people gave Ridual a vote of 10...
Nearly 7 times as many as the next app in fact.

There may be a lot of weirdoes (sorry) who like the old midnight commander interface over a proper looking GUI, but I doubt that many people would vote for Ridual with such a high vote.
As some people suggested, it is highly likely that some people were using proxies to vote.

Exactly.
Using the ratings API would have made that much more difficult.
Or using something like OpenID.

10:49 PM
oh

And what's this "Wilson Score" that they used instead of average?

no one knows
i can only tell they pissed off a bunch of app developers instead of creating a community of them

And on top of all of this... we were (originally) supposed to receive the results of the vote waaaaaay back in July.
That was nearly two months ago.

The whole thing is a flop.

@jokerdino Well... I'm still committed to writing software - just unlikely to enter this contest next time around.

10:52 PM
They should reward ALL the developers in some manner.

Everyone got a t-shirt.

Sounds silly, but it's only fair.

(Though mine hasn't come yet...)

@GeorgeEdison That's good to hear. But not everyone are awesome like you.

Well I mean they should do something other than a shirt (which was the default, right?)

10:53 PM
Everyone got a t-shirt IIRC.

Even a simple gesture such as free Ubuntu One space or music or something.

Different teams, dear.

Ubuntu One storage space is a nice idea.
But as for music... there's still no U1-country store here.

gotta get ready for school. bye friends.

So the selection is awful.

10:54 PM
@msPeachy cya, have a good day :)
@GeorgeEdison true, it is kinda poor
I don't see ANYTHING I would want :/

The US store is nice though.
Anyway... I feel better having said all of that. I was disappointed in the results.
Now it's time for me to move on.

@msPeachy cya

Q: Can we allow questions for beta releases, while continuing to prohibit Alpha?

ObsessiveFOSSGenerally, Beta releases, while not used by the masses, are ready enough to warrant support by the solid user base who participates in public betas. Can we allow these releases? They are pretty stable, and while they may have a few more bugs, they are not that bad. Can we consider allowing questi...
