I finally decided to start a spreadsheet. The rows were initially populated by items at Best Buy and then I added chipset information. I can then use that to look up hostapd compatiblity, probably.
And whose terrible idea was it to reuse model numbers for products with completely different chipsets?

I was looking for a new 1Gb ethernet adapter for my home system, but I could not find anything that just said "Works in Ubuntu" or anything like that. Turns out, I only needed to perform a full power cycle of my system.
I feel like they should have a test or something, where they ask you questions that can't really be answered through a search, and if you pass it you get the bootloader unlock
@NathanOsman Ah. A friend of mine that I just talked to that uses the Pis all the time said that if the CSI bus was used for that, it couldn't do anything else.

I have a 300N (300Mbps) Game adapter, but goes to 100Mb ethernet connection. I guess it works OK, but chokes still. That USB adapter you showed is a much better idea. :)
