Is chat freaking out?

And my router is working again. As soon as I turned my laptop off

No, looks good here.
Oh!
There was it.
All messages look doubled for a second.
Sometimes.
Not any more...
Now again!
I don't understand this...

What is happening , byte?

Well
Now not any more.

user136984
@ByteCommander: I don't see what you mean... Perhaps you need an eye test if you are seeing double vision! :D :P

5:10 PM
Probably

user136984
Or maybe your computer does!

No, when I post a line, the line gets posted twice, but after a second the duplicate disappears again.
Sometimes.

user136984
Strange.

user136984
:P

It started in the Chess room.

user136984
5:11 PM
:D

But in here it is not that extreme...
Only a few messages seem to get cloned here.
There!

user136984
Where?

user136984
I do not see what you mean!

That one was twice visible for me...

Reload the chat bro. Or reboot. Or router reboot. Or all at the same time

5:23 PM
:D
No...
Looks like it went away.
And Seth seemed to have the same issue.
Uh oh! CV queue grew beyond 300!

user136984
@ByteCommander: No... It's close, but not there yet.

@ParanoidPanda Sure it is.

Wha... where'd my clock go?

user136984
@ByteCommander:

5:29 PM
Remember that whenever you review or skip something, this element is removed from your personal CV queue, but maybe not yet from the true, global CV queue, if it needs more votes for an action.

user136984

Gimme my clock back!

user136984
@NathanOsman: Yeah, I used to get that a lot.

user136984
But I found a temporary fix.

Won't even let me change it.

user136984
5:30 PM
Yes, exact problem I had.

user136984

Q: No Date and Time

Paranoid PandaWhen starting up my machine (Ubuntu 14.10) just now I have noticed that the bit in the top bar which tells me the date and time is gone, and I am unable for some strange reason to change the Date & Time > Clock settings: Why are the settings greyed out and why is the Date and Time not showing ...

user136984
Clock included in that.

@ParanoidPanda ^^

5:32 PM
@ParanoidPanda Hey - it worked. Thanks!

user136984
@NathanOsman: :)

user136984
You're welcome!

user136984
@NathanOsman: What version of Ubuntu are you running?

Utopic.

user136984
@NathanOsman: I think that they must have fixed it in 15.04, as I don't get it any more, but I used to get it loads when I had 14.10.

5:35 PM
First time it's ever happened to me :P

user136984
@NathanOsman: Well, I had been using 14.10 for a long time and nothing like this, but when it started, it never really stopped... :D

That's annoying.

user136984
Yes, I seem to remember reporting it on LaunchPad once...

On to the second issue of the day... my Raspberry Pi 2...
ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
Suddenly it's refusing SSH connections.
I have a very bad feeling that this is an issue with the microSD card becoming corrupted somehow.

user136984
@NathanOsman: Do you know of a way in which I can tell how hot my computer is? Or at least how fast my computer's fan is going? Because if my computer fan knows how fast and when to go, then surely my computer knows the heat of my computer?

5:47 PM
The "sensors" command should do that.

user136984
@NathanOsman: It says that that command does not exist.

user136984
:(

@ParanoidPanda "sudo apt-get install lm-sensors"
Also, this doesn't look good: paste.ubuntu.com/11354331

user136984
@NathanOsman: That worked! Thanks! :)

@ParanoidPanda there is also GUI app, psensor. I used to run it on startup every time pc boots to monitor temperature continuously

user136984
5:57 PM
@NathanOsman: I already asked a question about it here so could you please convert that into an answer and give us both some rep! :)

with sensors you can do watch -n 1 sensors

@ParanoidPanda That answer was just revised.

user136984
@NathanOsman: Wow! Everybody literally just dived for that question! :D

@ParanoidPanda see this also for psensors webupd8.org/2014/06/psensor-updated-with-option-to-display.html

6:29 PM
Bye!

@ParanoidPanda of course. Easy question

6:51 PM
$ gconftool-2 --set "/apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/Default/background_color" --type string "#000000FFFFFF"
apparently gconftool-2 does not work in 15.04
or i am doing something wrong
thanks,when I copy paste your answer, commandline accepts it, exit status=0 but terminal background doesnt change, If I close and restart terminal, still no change. if I re-reun gconf --get .... it returns the previous color . Im suspecting your answer is correct regarding gconftool-2 but there possibly is a setting or startup script that is overriding the new value? — user4668401 25 mins ago

Q: How to detect if OS is Ubuntu or Xubuntu via shell script?

Douglas De Rizzo MeneghettiI have a few configuration scripts that I run everytime I install a fresh version of Ubuntu. Recently, however, I migrated to Xubuntu. I would like to use the same script for both distros, since both of them are very similar, but I would also like some parts of the script to be executed only unde...

Hello - I have this newbie question that I am having trouble with. I got a comment on SuperUser that I didn't understand so I thought I would post here.
I'm trying to use Xming with Putty from my Windows machine to SSH into my Linux box. Apparently one can choose between Xming and Xming-mesa. I don't know much about graphics or display servers.
Should I choose one somehow compatible with Ubuntu?

I really need to bug the Launchpad people to let me add ARM builds to one of my PPAs. I'm stuck distributing a handful of DEBs for packages that needed to be recompiled to run on Ubuntu for ARM.
@Tosh Go with Xming.
I've never heard of Xming-mesa.
I've used Xming a number of times with good success from Windows 8.

A: How to run GUI applications remotely on a headless server?

Nathan OsmanThis is more than possible using X11 tunneling. The exact instructions for doing this differ depending on the platform you are using to connect to the server. Windows XP/7/8 You will need to download and install the following tools: PuTTY Xming Once you have Xming installed, launch the pro...

Q: Ubuntu on chromebook can't see grub menu

CaballeroI've installed Ubuntu 15.04 with on a google pixel 2015 chromebook, but I can't see the grub menu. At the time when I should be seeing it, all I see is "Booting from hard disk" and there's some distortion at the top of the screen (it would seem like a few rows of pixels) that lasts exactly the ti...

Thanks @NathanOsman! Should I get the Xming fonts (straightrunning.com/XmingNotes)?

@Tosh I've never needed them.

@NathanOsman I see.

Wonder why gconftool didn't work , but dconf did the trick.

Q: How can I set the background color of gnome-terminal using gconftool-2?

user4668401I am using Ubuntu 14.04 and I want to set the background color of my gnome-terminal using the command line. From what I can tell gconftool-2 is the way to do this but I cant work out what the command is to do this. my ~/.gconf/apps directory looks like: ├── %gconf.xml ├── gnome-terminal │   ├──...

@Fabby Yes. They haven't gone after the individuals involved (probably never will), but they did go after the institutions under anti-trust law. I'm not sure what the exact charge would be for each individual, but if they were going to charge them - it would be interesting to see the same charge or charges against a whole slew of people under RICO.

user136984
Well...

user136984
Goodnight! :)

@ParanoidPanda o/ sleep well, panda

@kos - Direct quote from the PPA maintainer/owner:
Lovely, launchpad broke it the builds.

I have patched the packages to not depend on locales-all.

Cheers,
Ondrej

My response:
Thank you, I'll ping them on AU.
@kos In reference to this
You really should just get a launchpad account and be polite about bugs. Most people that have PPAs are really nice if you ask them in a nice way what the status of something is.

hahaha, I followed ProtonMail on Twitter (an encrypted email service based in Switzerland. Check 'em out!) and within 5 minutes Tutanota, a competing service, followed me.

It's just product intelligence. They want to know if you like something so they can build the feature, or if you hate something so they can make it a sell point.

@hbdgaf Thanks again for contacting Ondrej for us. Yes, and of course I'll do that myself next time. Since you did all the job it's obviously your privilege to answer the related question (if want to, otherwise of course I'll do that: askubuntu.com/questions/627653/…). Also, @muru

It's on you. I don't touch php questions, because I don't have a desire for later pings about php or the mistaken impression that I have any proficiency in the area by tag activity.

kos
Ok, I'll do that then. Thanks again
